Ed Orgeron is a Great Motivator, also Insane

A handful of players told The Athletic that Orgeron supposedly punches himself in the face every Saturday.

David Ducre, who played tight end from 2015 to 2018 under Orgeron at LSU, said the coach punches himself in the face “at least once a week.”

Players also said he gives the best pregame speeches they've ever heard.  I find that particularly impressive since I can only understand every 3rd word he says.

Too bad Jack Harbaugh took away Jim Harbaugh's balls.

I would love to have seen JH on the sideline wiping blood across his face, braveheart style as he gathers his troops.

Instead, we get zombie JH who looks out of touch.

I've been giving Harbaugh a lot of hate over the last 2 weeks.

But I have to admit he did seem to have a better energy about him while Gattis was on the sideline.

Its gonna be interesting to see how the offense looks against someone not named rutgers.

I do think some people made a good point pointing out that with Gattis on the sideline, there can be a guy in charge fired up on the sideline without getting flagged like Harbaugh will. Yes of course it was Rutgers but the offense had looked rather lifeless. Hopefully there's something real to it.

Those odd shaped dark glasses are making the look worse.

Where's that fresh, young looking man that used to coach?

It's not just the flags/sideline demeanor, etc.

Wasn't there an article, recently, quoting former players saying that the primary difference between road Michigan and home Michigan is that at home, the atmosphere gets you pumped, but on the road they feel lost because pregame motivation is not Harbaugh's strongsuit?

If it were I, I would be putting Don Brown in charge of the pregame speeches. He could get you to run through a wall. Or maybe let Ben Mason do it, since he might actually run through a wall. I remember being more fired up by captains than coaches in my short and unimpressive dalliance into team sports.

Punching yourself in the face fires up your team?  First, Jackie Sherrill makes his Miss State team watch a bull get castrated and now this.  SEC is gonna SEC.

EDIT: Here's a great article with a backstory on the bull taking two for the team.  Best line in the article: "Sherrill had seen dried bull scrota, dressed up as art pieces, hanging on people's living room walls."

Something that has also bothered me about Ed O - his head is massive.  Like as a large as the two other heads in the picture put together.     Why am I bothered about this fact?   It implies that his brain is huge and allows deeper thought processes compared to your typical SEC coach.    And that's terrifying.  Because underneath that self-punching, barely distinguishable talking, bear of a man veneer is an IBM Watson-level multi-core processor that thinks on a much higher level than us mere mortals.

People eat this kind of stuff up while the team is winning.  If the team isn't living up to expectations, or there's some kind of scandal, this stuff gets your team massive amounts of bad press.

No. This is pitiful. Orgeron is an idiot. Anyone who would find that bullshit to be motivating is an even bigger idiot. Remember, he was doing the same schtick when he was getting fired all the time, too.

Why do you care that a coach at another school does this to motivate his team?  At least he motivates his team, unlike Harbaugh who would rather lull his team to sleep before games with his exceedingly boring pre-game speeches.  Coach O’s players would run through a wall for him. Could you say the same about Harbaugh?
