I'm sure Meyer's happy that he got him to flip from Oregon, but man. Can we send Heiko to Texas to ask him what he thinks about murder?

Urban is going to get dynamic skill players. Water is wet. We just need to continue the Manball approach and add some more skill next class. Our secondary is shaping up nicely in the future. Also linebacker play looks to be a strength as well. I just hope Von Bell goes to Tenn. He is a beast. Beat Ohio tonight!

I'm not saying we shouldn't worry about their recruiting... we absolutely should, because clearly they are a national draw.  Just saying that they don't take as many kids out of the Midwest as you might think.

as we seem to want to recruit the midwest heavily. If the other two power programs focus elsewhere, it helps us get our pick of the best local talent, and if we can pull a high level out of the area recruit here and there, it's a winning formula. With the other schools in the mix, it gets harder to pull the talent.

So it goes.

Opposing fans like to throw stuff around about Urban but the fact is he's a young man in this profession. He's only 48 yrs old. As a point of reference, Nick Saban is 61. Les Miles is 59.

The fact is that Urban is exactly where he wants to be, in his home state at Ohio State where he started his coaching career. He's already making $4 million/yr+, he has his health under control, finished 12-0 w/a win over Michigan in his first year and is about to wrap up his second top 5 recruiting class.

The question is not how long to Ohio State fans think he's going to stay. The question is how long before the rest of the B1G just surrenders to him.

1. He left UF because of Saban. Fact. Dude's ego is insane so he made up a health issue to bounce and "spend time with family" to which he promptly took an ESPN job that, by his own admission, had him away from home 3-6 days a week. Suddenly, osu job opens up and he is miracle cured of fake illness.
2. Why? Because he knows what most B10 fans are too biased to admit: A coach with his system and recruiting ability running a program with only slightly higher ethics than SEC teams can win 10 games a year with it's eyes closed. No more Sabans and Miles and etc to worry about and keep up with (clearly he couldn't once both came back and tuned up their machines).
3. He is young for a HC and is not going anywhere anytime soon for reasons listed above. Just don't let anyone be fooled that he was actually sick. His ego got stomped on, he was losing despite recruiting well but even recruiting was slowly slipping with Bama back and once his golden boy was gone his teams went from merely losing to Saban to getting stomped by much of the SEC despite such great recruiting years before. He ran out of town like a scared bitch. He won't do that to osu because the way it's looking is very much 10 gimme games and 2 actual games he'll genuinely have to prep for every single year.
4. Finally, IIRC, douchebag agreed to be the osu coach before his UF contract was void as the clause still remained despite his leaving and UF getting Muschamp. I know for a fact the UF AD is less than happy with Meyer and it had zero to do with leaving if it was for what he said it was and the AD had even publicly said he felt lied to. Peronally, I don't hate Meyer for being the osu HC. I hate him because he is a proven lying weasel whos ego will stop at almost nothing to get what he wants. What does he want? To win. BG was a cake walk. Utah the same. When deciding between ND and UF he saw a weakened SEC (compared to now) and a Florida recruiting hotbed. Despite ND ties, he knew where he'd win at. Once that went away, so did he. At osu, to him, it's like being at Utah again except he'll get more public love because of osu's status in CFB. It does't take Sherlock Holmes to figure this calculated move out. I just don't think he expected osu or nd to open up as fast as they did. Hence: "Miracle Cure!" & stupid bullshit "family contract". /rant

It's almost like Chip Kelly didn't care anymore about his recruits...

To me that is one of the most frustrating thing about college sports- coaches that make poor decisions (or personal gain decisions) screw over the school and not themeselves.  Coaches that leave can leave for NFL leave a team in scrambles, coaches that leaves before issues surface/get punished (cough ***Calipari*** cough) have nothing happen to them and the schools they leave suffer through years of punishment/turmoil.

I know it will never happen because of money- but I'd love it if there were restrictions on when you can start/leave jobs- I guess you can never stop jumps to the NFL/NBA- but jumping to another NCAA school should not happen at times where it can disrupt a program so much.  Coaches have it so easy- and they can screw over players which I think is unfair.  At least that does not appear to be an issue at UM- so I suppose we can only gain from this situation, but overall I think it is bad for college sports

First, coaches are going to leave when jobs are open. That part isn't up to them. It's nearly always going to be around the same time of year. Second, it seems far worse to stay just past NSD. I'd much rather see a school scrambling to replace or hold on to recruits than the alternative; recruits finding out the coach they committed to is leaving just after it's too late to go elsewhere.

I agree Chip had to leave when the job was open and that he had to look out for his own interests and I don;t think it reflects poorly on his character.  I am just observing that he left right at a time when the sharks are circling and motivated and that put Oregon a bit behind the curve.  They'll probably be just fine in the long run, but for this year there's definitely some interesting second order effects.

This is the second year in a row that St. Urbs will benefit from the misfortune of another program re: recruiting. The 2012 class was bolstered by several top notch players who were committed to Penn State untill...well, yeah. While the 2013 class has already benefited by the departure of Chip Kelly from Oregon and I wouldn't be surprised if OSU got another guy to flip from the Ducks to the Bucks, seeing as how their offensive styles are similar.

AFAIK he only went after Wilson and the Robinson twins.  I don't think he'll get them so he's probably done with those flips.  Still can't fault him for asking a kid if he's interested in OSU when there's been a coaching change.  If Michigan's class wasn't full, we'd be wanting Brady to do the same thing.
