Design Shawn Hunwick's Goalie Helmet

Submitted by goblue7612 on

Sounds like Shawn Hunwick needs help designing his new goalie mask. With all the mgoartists on this board, I thought one of you may be able to help him out. Here are some of his tweets. Sorry my formatting is terrible.

I'm lacking any sense of creativity this spring which is unfortunate because I have to decide what paint job I want on my new mask.

I'm looking for ideas or even drawings for those more artistically inclined. If I like the design I'm going to go with the best one.

Who knows you could tell your friends you designed my mask.

This is as ON topic as it gets.  UM goalie wants a fan to design his helmet.  This is why blogs like this serve the public good.

That, and Brian duh.

I do think Shawn needs a SPECIAL helmet just for the tSIO games:  have one with images of cars, tattoos, and condominiums.

I think it could be cool with a similar style to what Cujo used to wear, except it is a wolverine not a rabid dog. The very top part could still have the stripes on it as well.

DOES PROVIDING ARTISTIC RENDERINGS FOR THE PLAYER COUNT AS PROVIDING A DISCERNABLE, VALUED SERVICE THAT COULD BE CONSIDERED A BENEFIT? WILL HE HAVE TO REPAY EACH CONTRIBUTOR THE MARKET VALUE OF THEIR TIME AND VALUE TO RETURN TO ELIGIBILITY?

Here's mine.  Actually got it from a garage sale, the dude had it custom painted.  Only problem is it said "Barney" right on the chin, so I redid that part myself (hence how bad it looks).  Other than that is is actually quite similar to CuJo's old mask.

Hey guys before anybody actually gives this a shot. The wings have to be on the helmet and other artwork cannot go into that space. So basically I'm looking from the wings down. Thanks for anybody that helps out. It's great here in Ann Arbor. Have a great weekend.

and trying to find peanuts at the rink was damn near impossible.  sat next to Langseth in the Umich section -- neither he nor his dad  were doing much better than me.

great job  betweeen the pipes.  probably one of the best 'tended games that I have been to by a umich 'tender.

A lot of people have been wondering if players ever comment.  If this is really Shawn then...nice.

Also, if this is Shawn, I played against you when you played for Honeybaked.  I played for Caesars.  Just graduated last year from UM.  So, like, heyyyy.

Not sure what picture to use but I think it would really cool to use a the Wolverine character from X-Men.  I've never seen it on a goalie mask before, plus it is fierce and is well, our nickname. Good luck Shawn!

can't design but thinking a silhouette of Yost Arena on one side and championship banners on the other.  under the wings of course.

My photoshop abilities are pretty much limited to splicing Lloyd Brady in to the Last Supper, but there are some seriously legit artists on here as witnessed by the banner contests and some forum posts. How cool would a DGDestroy's MSPaint job be for a mask design? I'm sure SixZero could whip up something fierce too.

I also think it's awesome that from all appearances our starting goaltender just mgoboard'd.

So ideas for more talented people.

1.) Start with Wings of course

2.) Use of 9 National Championship years ('48, 51', 52', 53', 55', 56', 64', 96', 98')

3.) Yost Arena on Side

4.) B1G Logos hidden in paint for upcoming 2013 conference

5.) New Block "M" on chin replacing where Shawn had 31 last season

6.) USA Flag or Wounded Warrior Project logo on back plate

7.) Some use of lightning (if keeping same pad scheme)

Feel free to use none, any, or all.

Ok, Wolverine (at least in the old days, like that picture) wore blue and gold, he came from somewhere in the Michigan-Canada vicinity, and of course, his name is "Wolverine". Is there any possible connection? Like they came up with the character, and then (maybe a Michigan fan) decided to give a little tip of the hat to the mighty U-M? I've always wondered this. Any of you comic fanbois able to enlighten me? I liked the X-men when I was a kid, but I wasn't a dedicated comic junkie or anything . . .

Thanks for the input, Shawn.

I'm not an artist by any means, but as an aside, I was contacted by a fellow Michigan Alumna last week, who is a producer for FSD, and she asked if I could round up some hockey fans for yesterday.

We trekked down to Yost, and they shot a scene of a "mock" student section, of us doing all of the cheers.  Basically, they're finally making a documentary based off of Bacon's "Blue Ice" book.  :)

I like this design because it is very similar to every other michigan helmet out on the ice. I also like the classic winged helmet, it is really nice looking already. Give as much input as possible and I will incorporate your ideas into my next draft!

Edit: Please pilfer this document and make any changes you see fit! The more options that are available, the greater the chance we find something that is worthy of the Leaders and the Best.

Just realized I missed the M on the bottom left angle. I'm going to pretend it was a Picasso moment...
