Son of a bitch!
Derrick Green hurt in practice & out 2 weeks
Pencil fitz as the starting RB for game 1
There was never any doubt of that anyway, even with a healthy Green.
If D. Green was as good as TJ Yeldon I don't think you would be saying that.
Reason for Yeldon is they had similar rankings coming out of high school.
While he's very good, Green =/= Yeldon. Yeldon was the best looking freshman back since AP, IMO.
scrap the program!
Are you fucking serious
GET WELL SOON!!! Go Blue!
Annnnnddddd there goes my Wednesday. Tah Effin Dah.
Did Fitz hit his knee with a metal pipe?
Bah gawd! Does Toussaint have no soul?!? /Jim Ross'd
I thought that was Col. Mustard?
Happy that he'll be back soon. Happy healing!
...AMRBHG. Get thee back to Iowa!
please upvote this one for me?
its only 2 weeks gentlemen
And our first game is in three weeks. It's kind of a big deal.
Well, our first game against a non-cupcake opponent is in 4 weeks, so its not too bad.
too bad i can't plus one you for this. he'll be back for ND and that's all that matters at this stage.
If these two weeks don't matter why are they wasting time on them?
DG is college ready for sure, but no doubt missing two weeks of practice will set him back. I bet we'll be seeing a lot of Hayes and Rawls (behind Fitz) in the first few weeks
No, that is horribly wrong. The first few weeks of practice is where you truly start learning the playbook by getting to run plays rather than just reading about them, and it's also when you start working on timing and chemistry with your teammates. Missing this time is obviously not the end of the world and can eventually be overcome, but it's a far more important time than many people could imagine.
Fitz better get his ass into gear.
Seems like unusually harsh criticism for Fitz.
Did he fall forward?
Did everyone go dyslexic and read that as "Out Week 2"?
Yeah bummer he got a boo-boo but he and the team will be just fine.
He's out two weeks of his 3 weeks of practice before the first game. That isn't good. It could be a lot worse obviously. But he has a lot to learn in very little time. Most importantly, adjusting to the speed of the college game.
I'm guessing it's just a boo boo.
Get back soon big fella...
... That we do not need that would be way worse than this. People need to take it down a notch
Just wow. Bad luck right there. Go hard, young man.
I'll wait for confirmation? No one else has mentioned this that I know of..
Wait....who the fuck is Jeff Weintraub?
And what is this source?
I call bullshite.
Grad student/former club hockey player/blogger
I'll wait for a confirmation.
Go play intramurals brotha.
How about playing for my C league team at Vets this fall?
I doubt he is making this up. Maybe he got bad info from his source, but I am guessing it is true.
He's a friend of mine. He has legitimate sources through all sports.
Well that's bad, at least he can't get hurt for the next two weeks i'd hope, I don't think I should climb the ladder for this.
PS. Let's sacrifice an animal or something so this is the last time we read anything alike from the fall camp.
My father-in-law literally just got done clubbing a raccoon to death with a baseball bat that wouldn't leave his garage. I'm counting it.
Digg says so.
I would love to know the background behind that gif.... I love the glowing eyes near the end of that cat's descent
Check out its tail, that was a racoon.
It's Kevin Rose (the founder of Digg) defending his dog.
I know the vast majority of Michigan beat writers and no one else has this news. No offense to the blogger, but I've never heard of him and will wait to get confirmation from respectable (known) sources before I think about this.
but something as minor as 2 weeks isn't worth bragging over. probably twisted ankle
This isn't the 20th century anymore. With social media, I think most Michigan related injuries have been reported first from students on campus which eventually filtered back to the the beat writers who disseminated it to the general public.
Beat writers breaking stories = Joe Schad reporting on ESPN. Don't get me wrong, I think the beat writers offer great inside looks into the program and players, but injuries and other breaking news usually comes from the students.
Are you Jeff Weintraub?
My sources tell me I am not.
Fair point, but beat writers have way more connections within programs than most and are paid to be on top of the beat 24-7. I'm not believing anything until I see it from multiple trusted sources.
And the Schad comparison is a bit of a stretch. Few know more about what is going on inside Fort Schembechler than the beat writers. I assume that when you say students, you mean GA's or people on the inside. I don't think the engineering department knows more about the football team than U-M beat writers.
Beat writers may have insiders, but students go to class and live with these players, student managers, and other student athletic dept staff. Most of the injury information that has come out in recent years has been coming from the students on campus. Insiders also may be hesitant to reveal injury information--Michigan and Hoke have been very reluctant to let injury infomation out.
Not seeing anyone else with the info - not saying he is wrong but let's wait for confirmation.
I hate you
If one of our players got hurt, I think more people would know about it. Right now it's just one guy claiming an unnamed source.
Everyone needs to take a mental break... This kid is a true freshman (yes very talented) but there is a ton to learn in the passing game before a true freshman is really ready to be an every down back. With Fitz, Drake Johnson, Hayes, and Rawls I see NO REASON to rush him onto the field. Get him healthy and then see if he could be an upgrade.
Hi Mrs. Johnson.
Why lol Drake Johnson? There have been a number of good reports about him.
I Lol'd at Rawls. I feel bad for doing so.
Drake Johnson will get some carries.
If he's not an upgrade over everyone not named Fitz on that list then that's a pretty big problem.
...but that said, having a ton to learn is exactly why this is unfortunate news.
Well, that's a bummer. At least it's nothing serious.
That's a real bummer, man. Mind if I do a j?
That and a pair of testicles
Guess Fitz knew something we didn't.
You're saying Fitz hit him with a putter? :O
Part of having physical practices are occasional injuries. He'll be back in time to get a few hits before CMU
Yeah, this isn't great, but it's not the end of the world either. He was going to get many carries against CMU anyway, but now he'll have a week to practice before that game, get some carries that don't mean a ton, and have another week to practice before ND. Not ideal, but not the end of the world either.
What's that supposed to mean???
@MGoShoe I'm not gonna reveal my source, but it's the same person that told me Jake Ryan tore his ACL before it was announced
Bad choice of words.
What have we done to deserve this?
Well awesome. Not a good omen for the season.
I love when people say they won't reveal their source. This is a sprained ankle, not a threat to national fucking secuity.
If he reveals his source next time they won't give him any info... We are talking about Fort Schembechler.
manager, coaches might want this in house and kept quiet. good way to get booted being a "source"
Fitz is some kinda fortune teller
A better question might be who is the poor soul who tried tackling him and is now out for the season?
That is a terrible question.
Bummer and bad timing on the running back question with This Weeks Obsession.
After Monday and Tuesaday even the calender says W T F
Although that is a pretty witty saying, mine actually says W Th F. Though that still works.
I mean, was Green really going to pick up all the pass protections and blocking schemes by the first game? It's all good, get well soon derrick!
This is being "reported" while our beat writer for Detroit news is still tweeting about food.
the human body is very tough - I once saw a movie where a guy with a gunshot wound hit a homerun.....that is how tough the human body is
Wait..... Is Green retiring?
Anybody else pick this up yet or does this guy just have the best source out there?
No word yet on CNN FOX or MSNBC - I'll be monitoring all night.
A user posted a topic asking over on 247, but none of the gurus have weighed in yet.
So I guess he's not that efficient at 240 huh Borges?
Obviously Fitz was overweight when he got hurt last year. It's football, guys get dinged. Lets not overreact.
If true, the real question is what will Hoke call it? ... "dinged up" is a good guess, but I'm going to go with "boo-boo" ...
Damn, this is especially concerning in light of Brian revealing this morning that Deveon Smith had been eaten by an editor.
Let's just hope that was either false or he gets regurgitated.
...you want Derrick Green to be ingested and then thrown up? You sick bastard. AMRRBG is a fate incomprehensible.
Practice can't hurt Derrick Green. Derrick Green hurts practice.
...the one thing I almost forgot about football season is how much people over-fucking-react around here. It's embarassing. It's TWO WEEKS! Hell, it may help him to be able to stand on the side and learn the playbook a little more and watch. If the 2 weeks is accurate, he'd be able to play in the season opener.
Don't you think that much of the "over-fucking-reacting" is just members being facetious for the purpose of offering some modicum of comedic effect? I do, but perhaps I'm wrong.
I think you're the only one over-fucking-reacting.
You don't "learn the playbook" by standing around watching. You learn by doing it. This is a problem that the corches will have to sort out. Borges had just said that in the next week he and Freddy J had hoped to narrow down our stable of RB's, because you can't get them all ready...
"The biggest thing I tell my guys is I didn't get all the reps (when I was a freshman), but I made sure I watched every rep," Hart said. "There's freshmen on my team over there talking, and they don't know the playcall or what's going on.
"You can process these things without getting a physical rep. I think that's kind of what helped me transition, is I was only getting a couple reps, but I was really getting 15 reps per period. A new playcall, I was thinking about what I had to do and how I had to do it."
I don't like change. Also looking at you MGOBLOG. Neg away.
Well, we can't neg...well played, you clever devil
It will be OK, Fitz was going to be the starter anyways. Green will get a week of practice before the first game and will get carries against Central Michigan. Running back is not like quarterback where you need an unbelievable amount of repetition. Pure talent can carry a person, experience just makes them great.
BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I'm not even going to let myself get worked up over this crass.
In the words of Spandau Ballet, this much is true... Not worried.
....ain't that a bitch
Well, this puts us in the same position we were in last year - Toussaint, Rawls, and Hayes (minus Vincent Smith). Not to diminish the loss, but we do have some depth there.
just do not agree with this man. if a warm body equals depth, maybe. certainly not quality depth.
Same position with regards to running back, but without Denard our rushing attack is hardly in the same position.
He wasn't going to be the main rb until the second half of the season anyway. IF this rumor is true, my only real concern is that he probably needed the exercise to lose weight.
Any one else besides this guy confirm this news?
I haven't heard or seen any
Still no confirmation.
From here on out make your weekly obsession about Urban Meyer.
We'll be fine.
Aside from about one run against Illinois last year, Rawls hasn't shown anything. If he's heavily in the rotation, that's bad news.
I don't know man, Rawls looked pretty slow and didnt break many, if any tackles last year. Even without Greene I doubt he gets any carries unless its a blowout.
He still couldn't break any tackles or outrun anyone. Yes, the interior blocking was poor at times, but he's not fast or powerful. The most power he's shown was when he ran through Jarrod Wilson's tackle...when Wilson enrolled early and should have been a high school senior during the 2012 spring game.
When he went head on with the Strong Safety Sunseri and got blown to pieces.
Clearly you were paying zero attention to Coach Jackson during his descriptions of Mr. Rawls. I'd be suprised if this minor injury to Greene doesn't result in a Heisman for Rawls within a year or two.
For once I agree with you about a player.
Rawls is a great kid and I met his parents and they are wonderful people, but he had a lot of trouble last year. It may or may not have been the interior O-Line being weak (looking at you, Mealer), but man he was completely ineffective. Watch pretty much any game last year and you will see Rawls getting hit in the backfield and going down quick. It was pretty bad.
2 weeks is nothing. Work him out elsewhere, keep him in shape/better shape and a week from his return he is running all over CMU
When he went down, 37 people were killed!
does that mean we lost 37 players on defense? :)
It's two weeks. That doesn't even hit the start of the season. He'll be fine. Fitz is our man to start the season anyway.
Tell Leonard Fournette this is why we need him.
That's less than optimal.
Regardless, he'll be trucking dudes when he's back.
Out right now. Don't be so quick to come to a conclusion.
By "conflicting reports" do you mean one random schmo tweeted it?
Google David Underwood.
Next man up
New source popping up? This injury might be overblown..not even 2 weeks
Seeing as we have not heard of any second source or confirmation, this is either bunk or something overblown/jumping to conclusions (i.e. passersby sees Green using a crutch or wearing boot to exit practice facility)
not really worth reporting.
Hopefully it's just a boo boo and not an owie.
No good time to be injured, but could have been during the season. Could also have been for longer time.
Now other guys get a chance to get some reps. With football, has to be, next man up.
Wish DG well, hope he heals soon...maybe quicker than 2 weeks.
Selling student season football tickets. Will sell each game individually or sell them as a package. I can also sell multiple tickets for each game. Email me with offers at firstname.lastname@example.org
Thank you and GO BLUE
I hope someone steals your damn tickets.
Too bad your auto-neg procedures are currently shelved with the site maintenance
Keep this in the thread where it belongs, please.
Sell me your Notre Dame student ticket and I wil at least forgive you.
Worth a try?
This thread hasn't been nuked yet?
when did we become Iowa from the last couple of years?
I wonder if this will affect the the redshirt decision for Smith? I would guess not, but I'm not as certain as before.
wdfn didn't have any info on their sports update
Well, that sucks. Hopefully it won't be a lingering injury. Hopefully, he is ready for Central Michigan so that he can get some live action snaps prior to the ND game.
Steve Lorenz just posted about it on the 247 board saying that it was "minor" and basically not worth losing any sleep over.
Of course this is what happens. The board is pretty high-strung around this time of year.
it's only 2 weeks, what IF it was the season?
Not that anyone is happy for injuries, but this seems pretty minimal. And it's not like he's the presumptive starter anyway. Should be back in time to play meaningful minutes early on.
