Could Tarik Black return for bowl game?

Submitted by MadtownMaize on

Is it possible that Black could return for bowl pratices and the bowl game? I know people have listed him as a redshirt due to his injury, but I have my doubts that he would stay another four years based on his talent level. It doesn't seem to be a situaltion where burning his redshirt would matter in the long run, and any extra reps not only help the team in the bowl game but also in his developement for next year. Has anyone heard mention?

Maybe a late season injury in his senior season. Maybe we lose in the title game and he wants to come back for another shot at it. It seems that we gain very little by playing Black in the bowl game and take away potential options down the line. Those are more important even if the chances they come into play aren't great.

Your posts read the like the dialog of Harriet Stowe's field slaves. Writing black dialect (or whatever the hell stupid shit you're doing) is embarrasing. It doesn't make you look like a hood brutha, it makes you look like a dorky teenager desperate to fit in.

Can we not call him "Brandon"? That name gives me bad feels... Like I'm somehow drawn to huge macaronis, or I'm about to run some organization into the ground, or misspell something in some horribly permanent way... Let's just agree to call him Peters...

I hope that they play him. To get the extra practice and game reps, because i doubt that hes around for a 5th year. Hes too talented.
But anything less than 100 pct, and i hope they sit him. Call it drake harris shell shock, but black is too important a piece for the next 2 or 3 years to risk something that lingers.

If he can, he should not. He might be able to get a medical red shirt. A somewhat meaningless bowl game is not worth losing the medical red shirt.

Not if it risks a potential redshirt.

(And before the "he won't be here for a RS senior year anyway" crowd chimes in - - you have no way of knowing that. But one thing you DO know is he won't be here for a RS senior year if he burns it playing in this bowl game)

It would take away his medical redshirt, obviously. I guess a separate question would be, do you believe that Black stays five years? I get your point that he won't be here for a fifth year if he plays in the bowl game, but I would rather have him play in the bowl game if the coaching staff believes he will be in the NFL before his fifth year.

A lot of things can happen, injury-wise. Right now he qualifies easily for a medshirt. He could get hurt again in the future, later in a season. You never know. He might end up needing a 5th year to prove he’s healthy.

That said, if Black is ready and Peters is starting, then the coaches might see utility in having him play, to build chemistry for next year, also to help get him back to where he needs to be sooner rather than later.

I think he sits. It's the smartest go. I hear all the won't be here for 5th year people and I get it. But what if he has another injury during one of his next 2 seasons and he's burned his red shirt this season to play in am otherwise meaningless bowl Game? Seems irresponsible to me. Makes more sense chalk this season up as a win for getting him real run and also gaining additional eligibility by getting him a medshirt

I agree that if he is 100% he should play. Anything less than 100%, he sits, because Drake Harris.  Play because, well, he be too good(grammatically intentional) to stay for his full tenure.

Anything less than 100% -- why take a chance. But if he's 100%, well...he was looking like (maybe by far?) our best receiving option early on. I don't know about you, but I wanna win our bowl game. If Tarik is 100%, he'll give us a better chance to do just that.

Is the upside of a possible 5th year greater than the upside of him playing in a bowl game this year? No guarantees he sticks around for the 5th year but certainly a possibility he does. I wouldn't give up that upside if I was either Harbaugh or Black. I get the argument of reps with Peters before next spring but couldn't he practice with the team during bowl prep and keep the medical?
