Really sorry for your loss. Don't worry about the overshare.

and was working in Venezuela, teaching English. I remember I had just returned from work and the family I was staying with said "Hey, your shuttle just blew up." They didn't seem anywhere near as concerned as I was, but they were not unkind about it.

did you mean "defiantly" or "definitely?" Either could work, I suppose, but "definitely" definitely seems to make more sense.

I'm not an NBA aficionado, but for me a good NBA comparison to Stauskas would be Steph Curry. I'm pretty sure he played 3 years at Davidson, and people were nervous he was too small (slight) to succeed, ut he's done all right for himself. Think it's a valid comparison?

WWWW and WABX were good rock stations in the 70s
|12 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah there was a whole bunch||
Yeah there was a whole bunch of good stuff going on, I personally have never been able to decide Ginger and Mary Ann, and was glued to the show to watch both of them, even as a young'n.
And the music was the best part of the 70s. Whoever said radio was all disco didn't know how to change the dial. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWWW-FM: "Many Detroit-area radio listeners of the 1970s remember WWWW-FM as a rock station with a slightly progressive bent, and one which would offer unique programming, such as the "All-Night Album Replay," wherein several full rock LPs would be played consecutively during a given evening. Print advertising for the station occasionally featured images of Godzilla, the mythical character seen in the Toho-produced Japanese series of feature films. That format would not extend into the 1980s, however. The change to the country format (nicknamed "W4 Country") alienated many former listeners."

Why is it that, under "Useful Stuff," we have a 2014 Recuiting Board for Offense, but not for defense? Can this be fixed? I would love to see who the targets are.

You're right, he can put that Auburn loss squarely on the shoulders of his special teams. Let's hope it's his loss, our gain. And aren't these rumors that he was trying to get rid of Nuss just that, rumors?

I feel sure Hoke went thjrough proper end-of-season assessment protocol, including interviews, and what he saw left him no option. I seriously wonder what he heard in those interviews.
|15 weeks 1 day ago||Good point, and one that I||
Good point, and one that I have pondered frequently. I am in post-secondary now after several years in K-12, and my dad was a high-school teacher his whole career, and my mom and my grandmothers and my brother and my sister-in-law, and my wife, have all taught or are still teaching. I have used the "no respect" line myself, and thought about what it means, and in the end the thing that pisses me off is the pay. People could make jokes about me all day long, like they do about lawyers, if I got paid like they do. I have friends who are doctors that make 5 times what I do, or businessmen with considerably less education who make double my salary. The "respect" thing, especially in our society, means having your hard work rewarded, and when you don't, it's easy to feel dis-respected.
EDIT: this is meant as a reply to #36, BTW.

Yeah that's a massive exaggeration. There is no comparing the situation at UM which, if it doesn't really sell out every game, at least it comes real close, with Miami, which plays in an empty shell of a stadium in front of zombies.

Men, my plan is for you to hold your opponents down and, over their horrified screams, cut their still-beating hearts out of their chest cavity, hold them up to the sky, and take a large, bloody bite. Then, you kick their remains down to where the dogs are waiting to devour what's left of them.
And of course, if you don't, I will do the same to you.
|20 weeks 3 days ago||I totally agree - it's||
I totally agree - it's reality.
I'll never quit being a UM fan, but reality dictates that sometimes I have to temper my emotional investment. I'm not giving up on them (I have only been to one game in my life anyway - PSU 2005), I just have to maintain some kind of emotional health that allows me to function in the world.
I must admit to being a bit of fairweather Red Wings fan, meaning I really only started following them closely in 1995, the year they made it to the Finals, only to get swept by the Devils. But it's been a great ride since then. To tell the truth, there seems to be a bit of a parallel with the Wings and Wolverines, both having difficulty maintaining their lofty standards (but last year's playoff run was a gas, and I hope for more this year). Point is, everybody has different levels of fanaticism they're OK with, and I know sometimes (like now with UM) mine is gonna drop a little, but I'll always maintain some hope for next year.
Let's not even talk about the Tigers of the 90's and early aughts. I still followed them, and supported them, but with a real feeling dead feeling inside. It's reality.

FWIW, I sent Mr. Borges a link to this comments thread. Of course, he won't read it. In fact, I'm fearing some kind of retribution, but I just wanted him to hear all the relatively sane ideas, among some name-calling, that you all have come up with.

|37 weeks 6 days ago||That was the only game I've||
That was the only game I've ever attended in the Big House. I remember being very frustrated that we never really tested the PSU defense deep downfield - the center of the field especially was always open and untested. Having the wide look - that you don't get when watching on TV - helped me really understand what people meant when they talked about M's traditional, conservative O. I must say, though, the play where Henne ran into the PSU defender, who stripped the ball from him and waltzed in for the TD was very memorable. It was largely forgotten thanks to Henne-Manningham with 1 second left - long may it live!
Another, personal story about that game: we took my dad, who had been suffering from Parkinson's for some time, and died from it last year. He made a game effort, but got so tired of standing up to see the last series that he sat down for the final play, and didn't really see what happened for quite a while after it happened. It was just one of those things.
