Chip Kelly likely done at UCLA
Hey Dante Moore, sup?
Also, could this mean Chip Kelly to PSU OC?
November 14th, 2023 at 6:16 PM ^
Chip Kelly to Texas A&M /s
November 14th, 2023 at 6:25 PM ^
Only if it’s a one billion dollar buyout.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:37 PM ^
Chip Kelly to staee!!!
November 14th, 2023 at 7:07 PM ^
Could bring Moore to MSU…
November 14th, 2023 at 7:30 PM ^
Chip Kelly would be a huge upgrade for Sparty. Is he their next wet dream?
November 14th, 2023 at 7:36 PM ^
As of 5-6 days ago, RCMB wanted him if he could bring Moore with him.
November 14th, 2023 at 7:52 PM ^
I’ve heard about some extra benefits that the coach in East Lansing might receive.
They’re reviewing a restructuring of the buyout and incentives. One rumor is .. $ 50.00 gift cards at your store of choice - they may go “retro” and offer a K-mart gift card with a blue light special in your favorite department.
November 14th, 2023 at 8:21 PM ^
That's a very realistic possibility, uniformz and chips on shoulders
November 14th, 2023 at 7:44 PM ^
Chip Kelly to SDSU?
November 14th, 2023 at 9:20 PM ^
I think A&M is a much more reasonable bet than Staee. He doesn’t have the stature to command big money anymore and he’s a safe choice for A&M and them for him. I would not blame Sparty for going after him though.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:16 PM ^
Damn...didn't think UCLA had been THAT disappointing...
And would hope the coaches reach out to Dante to see if he wants to come home...If JJ heads to the League as one would expect then there would be a golden opportunity for a talented young QB in AA.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:21 PM ^
They just lost to ASU.....ya its bad and joining the Big Ten isnt gonna make things any easier. I never understood the love for UCLA. This program has never been relevent and barely a step ahead of Cal or Stanford as far as football goes. Not to mention a fanbase that takes pride in playing at the rose bowl but cant even sell half the stadium tickets. Pathetic program overall
November 14th, 2023 at 6:30 PM ^
The program was relevant for two years when Tom Harmon's son was QB. Aloha, Mr. Shoop.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:40 PM ^
Troy Aikman says hi!
November 14th, 2023 at 7:44 PM ^
Remember Cade McNown. It's been a minute.
November 14th, 2023 at 8:17 PM ^
As a Bears fan, I remember. And I try to forget
November 14th, 2023 at 6:44 PM ^
I was going to say since Tommy Prothro
November 14th, 2023 at 8:11 PM ^
+1 for the Summer School reference.
November 14th, 2023 at 11:19 PM ^
I was today years old (53 years, 5 months, 28 days) when I learned from SD Jones that the NCIS guy played college QB :)
THANKS SD!
November 14th, 2023 at 6:38 PM ^
They have pretty uniforms and embraced "sissy blue" for a week after kicking Coach O's ass
November 14th, 2023 at 6:39 PM ^
UCLA is like UNC: great basketball school that seems like it should be good at football, but alas.
November 14th, 2023 at 7:58 PM ^
If you subtract John Wooden from UCLA's basketball history you have almost nothing. UCLA is not even a basketball school.
November 14th, 2023 at 8:07 PM ^
They won the National Title in 1995.
Three Final Fours in a row under Ben Howland.
Beat Juwan Howard to make the Final Four
Tons of PAC-12 Championships.
Generally regarded as a Blue Blood for basketball, and John Wooden DID happen.
Man, every once in a while there are some...takes on this board, this one's an all-timer.
November 14th, 2023 at 11:22 PM ^
Yeah, but if all that stuff didn’t happen, THEN….
November 15th, 2023 at 8:02 AM ^
And did you hear from OSU fans that if you take away The Don's long runs against them, they pretty much shut him down?! And if you take away a few of JJ's long throws, they basically shut him down too?!
November 14th, 2023 at 10:03 PM ^
This is a horrible take.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:48 PM ^
But..people will never forget the great 7-2-1 season in 1967 when they also won the Heisman.
November 14th, 2023 at 7:07 PM ^
Damn. Larry Csonka finishing 4th in the Heisman voting as a FB!
November 15th, 2023 at 5:37 AM ^
Fullback was very different then in the split T formation. On some teams they were the featured back. Jim Brown was a full back.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:52 PM ^
I was a teenager in LA in the 90s. From 91 to 98 UCLA beat USC every year. So that probably colors my impressions but I think they're miles ahead of Stanford and Cal, they've just been wandering the desert ever since then.
Can't really blame them for not filling the Rose Bowl when students have to drive through an hour's worth of traffic to get there...plus it's a commuter school so many would have to drive even farther. It's nothing like our AA situation where everyone can just walk to the game.
November 14th, 2023 at 7:29 PM ^
The students are not the problem when you fill to 40% capacity. It's far away from campus and the heart of LA. And they suck.
November 14th, 2023 at 8:41 PM ^
I don't know if Pasadena is the heart of LA, but even if it were, that means you have to drive through shitty traffic to get there no matter where in LA you live because the middle of LA is where all the worst traffic is!
November 14th, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
Yeah grew up in the Terry Donahue era and UCLA was really good for a spell there about 7 years. Mid to early 80s they were in the Rose Bowl often. So it's sort of sad they have been lost in the wilderness for a long time.
Also amazing uniforms.
November 14th, 2023 at 10:56 PM ^
Well, 3-4 times a year they are going to sell out for a while. I cannot imagine the number of Midwest B1G alums there must be in LA.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:53 PM ^
But thier home uniform are so iconic...2nd best in college football.
November 14th, 2023 at 7:13 PM ^
This program has never been relevent
While UCLA has almost never truly been in the national championship picture, they won 7 conference titles in the '80s and '90s under Terry Donahue and Bob Toledo, and finished in the top 10 nationally seven times. During one stretch under Donahue, the Bruins won 8 straight bowl games, including 3 Rose Bowls, a Fiesta, and a Cotton.
November 14th, 2023 at 7:52 PM ^
There highest final ranking was 5th and couldnt do better than 10-1-1. The conference during that time was a shit show. A couple of his pac championship teams had 3 or 4 losses. Reminds me of the old big east with Uconn and WV winning the conference at 8-4
November 14th, 2023 at 7:53 PM ^
Starting in the 1960s, UCLA was always in USC's shadow until the early 80s when John Robinson retired and USC hired Ted Tollner. Terry Donahue won 3 PAC10 titles in 4 years (82, 83, 85) as well as all three RBs. The series record since 2012 is USC 6-5.
The only time we lost to the same team twice in one season was UCLA in 1982 (including RB at end of season).
November 14th, 2023 at 7:17 PM ^
Think it might be a round ball that’s the draw.
November 14th, 2023 at 7:27 PM ^
You could tell right off how bad they were going to be when they ended up on OSU's schedule and not ours. I was like "damn they must really be expecting them to fall off!"
November 14th, 2023 at 7:40 PM ^
Well, I am probably quite a bit older than you because I remember when UCLA was quite relevant under Tommy Prothro, Dick Vermeil, and Terry Donohue. Been awhile...
November 14th, 2023 at 9:04 PM ^
Dick Vermeil was the old dude when I was a kid.
:-) just kidding
November 14th, 2023 at 8:13 PM ^
Other than 1998 when they would have played for the national title if they had beaten Miami in the last game, they have never really been a national title contender. Similar to Texas A&M.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:33 PM ^
This really unraveled fast. They were ranked in the top 20 like, what, two weeks ago? With a Freshman starting QB. Now down the 3rd string QB.
Since Terry Donahue no one seems to last there all that long.
November 14th, 2023 at 7:10 PM ^
Since Terry Donahue no one seems to last there all that long.
I dunno, I bet if you asked a UCLA fan they'd tell you that it felt like the Karl Dorrell era lasted an eternity.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:39 PM ^
I don't know the rules, but I would think reaching out to a player at another school who is not in the portal is a big no no no.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:44 PM ^
Pretty sure we'd send an unaffiliated third party to do it.
November 14th, 2023 at 6:47 PM ^
I know a guy with experience doing this sort of thing who just happens to be available.
November 14th, 2023 at 7:20 PM ^
He could talk to him on the UCLA sideline.
