Calling MGoWeather-girl!

IMO one of the best new additions to the board in the past year were the posts of the MGoWeather girl. I loved the way she predicted the gameday weather and what you'd need to wear by event: tailgate, start of game, halftime, post-game, evening fun. And of all the weather forecasts I follow she was easily the most dead-on accurate of any of them.  FWIW she was the only person I remember who correctly said the weather for UTL would clear by kickoff and not drench us as it did for most of the day leading up to the game.

For those of us traveling to the game (we drive up from Cleveland) she's was a Godsend so we can accurate select what we'll need to wear and what we might want to have for the day/night.  MGoWeather girl where are you?

Not sure where she is but I do remember the weather a week prior to the UTL game. It literally rained for 7 straight days leading up to the game. On my way down 23 heading into AA it was pouring rain around 9 - 10AM. And then out of nowhere the heavens opened up and the football gods shinned some sun on us. I'll never forget the weather during gametime. Perfect football weather. Couldn't have been better.

It looks like it will be partly cloudy tomorrow and 65 at kickoff. That sounds good to me.

Does anyone know the limit on lense sizes in Michigan Stadium? Last winter I purchased a Canon Rebel T3i to take better pictures. I have the standard 55mm lense but I also purchased a 250mm telephoto for zooming in.

They let me into Yost with it but I did not have the 250mm with me. I don't have a problem running back to my car if they don't let the 250mm in but I would prefer to take it in and get some killer zoom shots of the players.

I checked MGoBlue.com and their camera section in information doesn't give you a whole lot of info.

Thank you in advance.

As I recall, the forecasts generally were posted in the late evening of the day before the game last year, which I assume works around her schedule as an actual meteorologist. Only once or twice did the forecast appear on the day of the game, so fear not, for as you said, the forecasts are tremendously valuable and there is a good chance of it appearing later today, if the timing of last year's posts are any indication.

I am beyond humbled and honored sir that after joing the board four years ago you watched seismic events come and go with nary a peep but my post on the MGoweather girl spurred you to speak.

I'm writing this one down in my Mgoscrapbook.

Is MgoWeatherGirl witty?  Or exceptionally hot?  Because if not there are about ten-godzillion governmnet agencies and/or media outlets that do this kid of thing for you.  I'm honestly not sure there is much on the internet except pornography and detailed forcasts for every corner of the world.

Edit: I fully recognize this is probably the dickishest thing I have ever posted here and I apologize in advance.

Dont know how she looks but she's crazy accurate.  LIke i said in the OP - EVERYYONE called for a wet UTL except her.  And if you look at the myriad of weather sites you'll notice that while everyone gets the same data, not everyone draws the same conclusions or makes the same predictions.

I don't know (or care) if it's luck, brilliance or divine providence but the chick knows her Michigan gameday weather and until proven otherwise I'll use her recommendations on what  to wear/bring when I leave Cleveland tomorrow for the day/night.

This was kind of funny but its best not to insult our own personal MGoWeather forecaster.  She's attractive, smart, and takes time to post great content just for us even though she's a Spartan.  (Just a little background for you in case you didn't know.)

Looked her up - she's a Michigan St and Mississippi St. alum.  She also claims to be a fan of both.

This whole thing might be one elaborate long con on her part.  Proceed with caution.

Mississippi State has an online masters of meteorology program that a heck of a lot of communications majors gets to get their foot in the door for getting a TV weather job. Many of the TV weather people that you know don't have much formal training in the weather outside of a few credit hours at Mississippi State.

This is completely correct, most on-air weather personalities are broadcast journalists that buy a certificate from the AMS to become certified. They don't get much meteorological training and rely on the NWS's model output statistics to generate their forecasts.

To be AMS certified, you also have to take a written test to go along with highlight clips of you on-air. But yeah.

To be clear, I have no major issue with this as an atmospheric scientist. On-air people should have to know what they are talking about, but they don't need to be doing model testing and development in their free time. The AMS does, I think, a very good job of vetting on-air talent. If someone has an AMS certification, they generally should know what they are talking about.

As long as you are enrolled in college and in an Earth Sciences program (Geology, Geography), you can get AMS certification for 25 or 30 dollars. You don't have to take the written test unless you are out of college (at which point it also becomes more expensive). I was certified a few years ago and was a Geology Major / Meteorology Minor and never had to take the test. But you are correct, if someone is a Broadcast Journalist or out of college, they would then have to take the exam to become certified.
