Burke SI Nat'l POY & All American
Title says it all. Congrats to Trey!

Burke becomes Michigan's first national player of the year since Cazzie Russell was named NCAA Player of the Year in 1966.
The sophomore was also named to SI's five-man All-America team, joining Oklahoma State's Marcus Smart, Creighton's Doug McDermott, Gonzaga's Kelly Olynyk and Indiana's Cody Zeller.

No Oladipo on their All American team. This means he isn't going to be consensus, right?
And hell yes. Trey deserves this 100%.

I think he could still be a "consensus" All American, but he won't be Unanimous. Then again, there are tons of AA teams, I don't know who all the official ones are, and what percentage you need to be "consensus"
For the official designation of consensus All-American, the NCAA doesn't use the SI team. The four teams used are Sporting News, USBWA, NABC, and AP. Both Burke and Oladipo have already been named first team by both SN and USBWA. The other two are forthcoming.

We'll see what Tom Crean has to say about this. It won't be "Congratulations, Cody". It will be "Where is Oladipo on that list?"

The plaque for the alternates is in the Ladies room...
/Top Gun'd
Well crafted.
+1 if not for Magnus fat joke caused Bolivia
/FreeDudeness
Ha ha ha.
His Dudeness sees himself as some sort of political prisoner exiled for an attack on the King's men...
I see an infatuation the Dudeness has for Magnus and wonder how it manifests itself in such hatred...
No, no, it's two "O"s in "Goose" boys....
Wait....Thats the football team. Easy mix-up

For the second time in less than a day, we are congratulating Trey Burke on another honor (two really, if we think of SI National Player Of The Year and being named to the All-American team there), and for his contribution to Michigan, another well-deserved one at that.
I'd hate for a deep Indiana run in March to boost Oladipo over who should win--Trey.
i think I love Trey Burke more than Denard....I know blasphemy.
This is understandable. Too bad Trey won't stick around for two more years like Denard did.
Burke is a winner. And Burke produces against all defenses...
I will be happy when the Denard spectre finally fades away from the list of heros at this school...
Hey you know what? We were darn lucky to have both of those fine men at the University and it's completely unnecessary to tear one down to prop the other up. Oh and the guy with 8 out of the top 10 total offensive performances in school histories is not "fading" any time soon.
Sam Webb has said that Darius Morris's success opened the eyes of h.s. PGs as to the extent to which they could thrive in Beilein's system, something they apparently doubted at one time. Now Michigan's PG is the Player of the Year. It accordingly shouldn't be too hard to find PGs going forward.
Got to see him in person at the State game this yr..Ripped Appling and threw it down to seal the deal..Priceless
So is SI's Nat'l POY the bee's knees or is there an AP one or something more official?
Either way, that is freaking awesome!! Congrats Trey! He definitely deserves it.
I think the Wooden Award is the official one.
He beat out Nate Wolters? And VCU!?
this will only give nate wolters more motivation. watch out burke and michigan, the jackrabbits are going to play with a chip on their shoulders

When does the Wooden award get announced?
There are too many "player of the year" polls. Oladipo is speaking with Jim Rome as I type this and he was named player of the year in some other poll. The only one that matters is the one awarded in April.
Trey certainly earned the accolades this year! Here's to hoping Derrick Walton can make a smooth transition as the lead PG and be another great facilitator (obviously he won't be able to fill Trey's shoes in year 1, but we can hope!)
Awesome, I didn't pay any attention to this topic until now. Trey is deserving, but I'm still a little shocked he actually won.
Wooden Award: Announced during Final Four weekend. The deadline for voting is March 25, so only the first weekend of the NCAA tourney will be taken into account.
Oscar Robertson POY Trophy: Awarded April 5. Voting already complete.
Naismith Award: Four finalists will be announced March 24, after which there will be a final vote, which includes a fan-vote component. Winner announced April 7.
Adolph Rupp Trophy: Announced during Final Four weekend. Selected by an "independent panel consisting of national sportswriters, coaches, and sports administrators."
But their website (linked above) says announced the 12th and voting is through the 27th:
Hundreds of members of the college basketball media will vote on the Wooden Award Player of the Year and All American team from 9:00 AM EST (6:00 AM PST), Monday, March 18, 2013, through 3:00 PM EST (Noon – PST), Wednesday, March 27, 2013, either online or through the mail.
The John R. Wooden Award Player of the Year will be announced at the 2013 Wooden Award Gala presented by Wendy’s on April 12, 2013, at The Los Angeles Athletic Club. The Gala will honor the Men’s and Women’s Wooden Award winners, All Americans and the Legends of Coaching Award winner, Kansas Head Coach Bill Self.
So I don't know if that's just formal and they're going to make it public the Final Four weekend (because how else could they get the winner there?) or if they've changed their format.
Your first quote above is for the women's Wooden Award, not the men's. Here's the quote from the men's press release:
Voting will take place from March 18th through March 25th, allowing voters to account for the first weekend of competition in the NCAA Tournament.
And it also says:
The John R. Wooden Award Player of the Year presented by Wendy’s will be announced on ESPN during the Final Four Weekend in Atlanta.
I also wanted to note that the four awards I listed above are some of the major POY awards, along with those awarded by AP, NABC, and Basketball Times—at least if you go by what the NCAA includes in its official Award Winners publication (see p. 10). SI isn't included, but kudos to Trey Burke for receiving this honor, nonetheless.
Hope puts on a show to put the discussion to rest.. Hes the most important player to his team, thats for damn sure

beat South Dakota State before we induct anybody into the college basketball hall of fame.
Regardless of our tourney run
Congratulations to Trey Burke! Won't be the last time we say it!
Is the beginning to a renewed Michigan Basketball. Go Blue Trey! Well deserved and thanks for the Hard Work!
The guys that came before Trey that made Michigan competitive again were the beginning of "a renewed Michigan basketball". Guys like Zack Novak and Stu made this possible, without them bringing the team back to the tourney, Burke probably honors his original committment to PSU...
Trey has continued where his predecessors left off and taken it to another level. Props to him for being a great representative of the program.
Maybe I'll revisit my thoughts on the "deterioration of SI." Nah: they just happened to get this one right.
Do you think Trey Burke dreamed of the day he would be mentioned in the same sentence as Doug McDermott and Kelly Olynyk?
Smart is young and Trey is improving his overall game but this is an underwhelming group of basketball players.
I think Burke should get featured on the banner for this website while his career is still ongoing.
