Braylon's brother Berkely, class of 2013
The guy who wins this race running 3rd from the left is Berkley Edwards, Braylon's younger brother. Next to him on his left is DeAnthony Arnett and Justice Hayes. He is a class of 2013 player, and scout has him listed at 5'8 165lbs and says he is a RB/WR recruit. I haven't heard anything about him other than what I have stated. Has anyone? Also, has Braylon said anything about the new coaching staff since the change? He had been somewhat outspoken against RR and his staff, so I am not sure if any bridges have been mended. It would be nice to pull in a legacy recruit with his speed. It would also be nice to see him grow a few inches in the next few years as well.

If he ends up at Michigan does he get the mythical #1 jersey? My head just asploded.
February 11th, 2011 at 8:54 AM ^
What if he is recruited as a RB/DB? Would Braylon allow his brother to wear the #1 after all the backfire richrod received from him after giving it to a DB? That could be a sticky situation.
February 11th, 2011 at 9:13 AM ^
wtf Frank. Seriously?
February 11th, 2011 at 10:26 AM ^
a little early for that wouldn't you say? we have to see how hoke is going to handle that with roundtree and stonum this fall. but it's nice to dream
February 11th, 2011 at 10:41 AM ^
Well, he certainly seems to have lots of potential, but the decision would have to involve
BRAYLON EDWARDS(!).
After all,
BRAYLON EDWARDS
was the person behind the #1 jersey. As you may know,
BRAYLON EDWARDS
wore the #1 at Michigan and made it famous. Who else but
BRAYLON EDWARDS
could do that?

Sorry, Braylon -- I enjoyed watching you play at UMich as much as anyone the past 20+ years. No offense!
February 11th, 2011 at 10:50 AM ^
"Michigan"? I think you mean "Lloyd Carr's University of Michigan".
February 11th, 2011 at 4:11 PM ^
It was Anthony Carter that made #1 special, not Edwards. Edwards just helped continue the trend of awesomeness wearing that number.
February 11th, 2011 at 8:50 AM ^
I thought Braylon was one of the alums who immediately took to twitter after the hire, praising Hoke.
February 11th, 2011 at 9:03 AM ^
...official Braylon Edwards Media Center:
Even Braylon Edwards chimed in, congratulating Hoke for landing his dream job and calling him a great coach. If Braylon has your back, you’re destined for head coaching success.
February 11th, 2011 at 4:31 PM ^
Does he really need to refer to himself in the third person?
February 11th, 2011 at 8:58 AM ^
As for the #1 jersey, I wouldn't mind it going to Ricardo Miller. He will be an excellent player and he deserves it with all the recruiting he has done in the past for the team.
February 11th, 2011 at 9:11 AM ^
It would be against tradition to give the 1 jersey to a tight end, which Ricardo now is.
February 11th, 2011 at 4:42 PM ^
has Richardo Miller listed as a WR, interestingly enough he is the exact same size as Braylon is IIRC, 6'4'' 215lbs.
Also were Miller a TE he'd be our smallest TE by far. I doubt he'd get moved especially since the only TEs on scholarship are sitting at 250, and 255.
February 11th, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
How many 215lb Tight Ends have you heard of playing in a pro style offense?!?
February 11th, 2011 at 9:14 AM ^
but it is really early to say he is a great player. He hasn't even seen the field yet.
February 11th, 2011 at 9:22 AM ^
LOL .....yeah! who would've thought that actually playing football should factor into whether not a player gets the #1 jersey?? not me, I stay up all night making list after list including probabilities and likely variables of who will be the next player to receive the #1 jersey.
I also have depth charts all the way up through 2023 you guys might be interested in....I've spent a lot of time on this and it's calculated purely and accurately using only the latest cold hard science.
EDIT:
Yes, the 2023 players may only be 5 years old or so right now but I know a 5 star when I see one. $$$$$$
February 11th, 2011 at 4:06 PM ^
I think that evaluating 5 year olds in any facet is probable cause to put you on a watch list. Question, are any of them 'yummy'?
February 11th, 2011 at 6:09 PM ^
I'm just a die hard fan man nothing wrong with stalking kids if it leads to W's baby.
February 11th, 2011 at 10:14 AM ^
However it does seem to be his motivation, his drive on and off the field, so I think he'll end up earning it, the only question is will he be the next #1 or will he have to wait for someone like Roy Roundtree to graduate?
February 11th, 2011 at 6:12 PM ^
wait, again, has he caught a ball yet?
February 11th, 2011 at 9:01 AM ^
I can hear it now.
February 11th, 2011 at 9:10 AM ^
This new Hoke regime reeks of nepotism . . .

February 11th, 2011 at 9:03 AM ^
Does he still run a track club in Detroit?
Is that a pipeline for UofM track and field?
February 11th, 2011 at 9:12 AM ^
The bigger question is..... did Justice win the race??
February 11th, 2011 at 9:35 AM ^
The guy who wins this race running 3rd from the left is Berkley Edwards, Braylon's younger brother.
February 11th, 2011 at 10:36 AM ^
I'm hoping it's sarcasm. Otherwise there's a serious comprehension fail in progress...
February 11th, 2011 at 9:12 AM ^
Braylon 2.0, I'll take it.
February 11th, 2011 at 9:18 AM ^
Keep in mind that Class of 2013 means mid-way through his sophomore year in high school right now. And that height/weight probably comes from the school's media guide from summer measurements. So you're talking about a guy who is almost certainly still growing.
February 11th, 2011 at 9:32 AM ^
Yeah I agree. I'm sure he has some growing to do still.
February 11th, 2011 at 9:22 AM ^
Jesus, he better be praying for a growth spurt. How the hell is Braylon 6'3 and him 5'8, old man edwards must have not eaten oysters that day
February 11th, 2011 at 9:33 AM ^
Well it is pretty typical for a 15-16 year old to still be growing.
February 11th, 2011 at 10:09 AM ^
On average, growth starts to slow around age 15, but doesn't stop -- he would have to beat the odds to reach 6' from 5' 8" at age 15 -- 5' 10" is the norm for that, but it's not like nobody ever ends up taller than that. To go from 5" 8" at 15 to 6' at 20 is to go from the 50th percentile to the 75th -- a big jump, but not unheard of.
February 11th, 2011 at 10:09 AM ^
Everyone grows differently. A great check is how tall was Braylon at that age? I've been 5'11'' since I was 14, but like the poster below says, he grew later than I did.
If we want to project Berkely's growth we should look at Braylon's
February 11th, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
We're not talking about absolutes here. A major surge in growth that begins after turning 16 is not common. I gather chitown.victor was 5' 10" by age 16 -- he had a late surge at age 15, which is at the very end of when that kind of thing usually happens, but still within the window. It would be rare for someone to start growing that much after age 16, and extremely rare after age 17.
Assuming the 5' 8" measurement is from age 15, Berkeley could easily be 5' 10" by age 16, at which point 6' is the average at 20. But if he's not 5' 10" by age 16, then his chances of reaching 6' 0" drop considerably. There are no absolutes other than most boys are done growing by age 20. The odds are what they are.
I have four brothers -- we range in height from 5' 9" to 6' 2" -- it's hard to imagine that we all grew at the same rates. Braylon's history likely has no bearing on this.
February 11th, 2011 at 12:03 PM ^
My wife comments that she would like me to grow a few more inches.
February 11th, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
because absolutely everybody follows the patterns, nobody deviates from the norm... ever
February 11th, 2011 at 10:00 AM ^
...but I will anyway to prove a point. I was 5'4" to start my sophomore year of high school. Twelve months later, I was 5'10"; and when I started my senior year I was 6'0". I am not saying this kid will grow 8 inches in two years, but even if he grows half of that he will be around 6'0", or roughly the same height as Braylon's underrated "sidekick" Jason Avant.
February 11th, 2011 at 1:06 PM ^
February 11th, 2011 at 1:52 PM ^
is not 6'6
February 11th, 2011 at 9:44 AM ^
Then we could be like all OMG and stuff...
February 11th, 2011 at 9:53 AM ^
Go take a cold shower and hope the feeling goes away!
February 11th, 2011 at 10:01 AM ^
Edwards finished 7th overall at this meet. For what it's worth, Delonte Hollowell beat all of them and finished 2nd, running .11 faster than Berkely
February 11th, 2011 at 10:08 AM ^
I was at a homecoming festivity at my local high school on sunday and I was amazed at the difference in stature. I never thought that there was that big of difference between then few grades, but it was absolutely amazing. The senior class looked like grown men and the freshman and sophomores looked like little kids. This kid more than likely has some serious growing to do and hopefully he is just getting started.
February 11th, 2011 at 10:15 AM ^
at first i thought this post was saying he was an early commit to UC Berkley...
February 11th, 2011 at 10:16 AM ^
The bitter irony in all this... 5'8" and fast at WR or RB would have been fine and a perfect slot dot for "RR's Uof M" but unless he grows quite a bit, he will most assuredly be too small under "Brady Hoke's Uof M".
When Berkley gets passed over does Braylon once again turn on his school and his coach? hmmm
February 11th, 2011 at 10:31 AM ^
We've got a long ways to go before we offer this kid a scholarship.... let's see how big he is come EO Junior/Senior year and go from there.
