Brandstatter on Isaac's waiver

Submitted by FabFiver5 on

I have a good friend at the Michigan Assosciation of Broadcasters event at Mackinac tonight and she is sitting at Jim Brandstatter's table.

Obviously, I had her ask him if he thought Isaac would be getting his waiver for this year. He said, "I don't think it would hurt if he didn't play. They are lined with running backs."

Take it as is or read between the lines like I do, but I'd guess one of two options: 1) Isaac won't be getting his waiver, so he's tempering the news by praising the current crob of RBs. 2) Our current RBs are just that good – Isaac being on the field won't matter much at this point.

Could be a combination of both. Just figred I'd pass it along.

If anyone's words can be taken at absolute face value, it's Jim Brandstatter.  He believes they are deep at running back, which they are, so Isaac is not really a key to success this season.

Can I branch off on this conversation a bit? Seems like the coaches have had really positive things to say about the team this year. The fan in me is so hopeful that they see something special. The cynic sees poor ticket sales and thinks; what are the odds DB is making them push a script to generate fan interest? Before you dismiss this thought, think of any other cookie cutter CEO you've worked with like Brandon and tell me that it is outside the realm of possibility...

First off Brady and co are going to be positive no matter the situation that is their style it is hard for me to see that as a product of spouting the party line.

Second I know as people who spend a ridiculous amount of time on a blog that revolves around teenagers playing sports we tend to be cynical. But maybe just maybe they see good things, the atmosphere is positive and that is coming out in the press.

I can't imagine that this is some act given Brady's limited vocab I doubt he would make a very good actor especially if he was forced to ad lib.

I agree the coaches tend to be positive, but it's markedly different this year. There is almost zero hedging when talking about any group other than the o-line.

That's mean.

I like Hoke's regular guy talk it is actually refreshing. That being said I just don't think he would be very good at faking something. Some dudes got it some dudes don't.

I have acted before in my schools 5th grade production of Oklahoma I played Mutey the Mailman they had too many kids so they had to make up roles like that.

nrock_12, you were lucky to play Mutey The Mailman.  That’s one of the great roles in any fifth grade production of "Oklahoma!"  In my school’s fifth grade production of "Oklahoma!," Mutey The Mailman had one of the best lines in the show:  These pretzels are making me thirsty.

We had so many kids in my school’s fifth grade production of "Oklahoma!," that all I got to play was Seventh Assistant Corn Stalk Holder On The Left.  No lines, no singing, no dancing; but it was a tremendous experience and I think that I executed well.  The teacher told me that I had a really good rehearsal camp and was getting better every day. Well, I was working hard and really studied the play's book, but I probably needed to be a little more consistent.

I also was part of a production of Oklahoma thought that was high school. I was part of the ensemble but I did get to purchase a saddle so the protagonist could get the girl. I don't think Hoke is stupid and clueless as some people make him out to be but maybe he is not as great with the offense as he is with the defense.

As a relatively new poster I guess I will have to file "don't poke a little fun at Brady's vocabulary" away for future reference to avoid getting negged.

I guess I should consider myself fortunate though I was going to post about my personal policitcal/religious views and why they are right and why we should/shouldnt have fired RR.

I am a big fan of Hoke and believe he will eventually bring us great things just having a little fun.

The one thing I would throw out there is to make sure we are considering things from their perspective.  It may seem like they're being overly optimistic about the team, but we also have to remember that these are coaches that have seen these guys progress.  I honestly have no skepticism that these players and the team took major steps forward from the spring.  Is that good enough to win the Big Ten?  I have no idea, but when you're watching someone develop everyday, you will probably want to comment on how much they're grown.

Just my thoughts.

I think this mean Derrick Green will turn into a 6ft wrecking ball and kill at least 2 secondary players who were making the poor decision to attempt to tackle this monster.

Tomlinson never had much of an oline, but the Chargers picked up Lorenzo Neal in 2003, so he did have a good lead blocker for several years.

I might be wrong, but it seems like a summary of what a fair number of analysts might say if pressed. We don't really know the waivr status until it is announced, of course, but it doesn't seem like we would be significantly hamstrung if Isaac had to sit out a year. I think we might be OK at this position and I don't know that anyone would freak if Isaac had to sit out. Maybe this is just me though.

Whatever happens I'm fine with it, he gets the waiver, and M has 3 really capable backs and a lot of competition, so whoever wins the job should be a pretty damn good back, he doesn't get it and M has a great back for at least the next 3 years.
