Big House vs. Spartan Stadium
Only been to one game at Spartan Stadium. Sat 2nd row behind the Spartans bench and watched them get murdered by Penn State. One thing that stood out was when one of the classless spartan players got into a heated argument with the Penn State fans next to us and even threatened to pull a Ron Artest and come into the crowd.
I think its only acceptable for you to be at spartan stadium if the wolverines are playing sparty. Wtf were you there for a penn state msu game?
To wear white and infuriate all of his less intelligent friends?
Am I the only one who hates Spartans much more than Buckeyes?
Nope
I would rather see the Spartans lose than Ohio State. Ohio State's team is easier to respect since they are for the most part players we were going for. Yes, their fans are redneck, but usually they are just people you are laugh at. Although redneck, they are not jealous like Spartan fans. They just really think they should be looked at equally to Michigan fans. When i say that, I mean as far as respecting their team is concerned. Yes, they have won a few in a row, but overall, it is not even a series. I have a feeling we will be back to old times soon. We have had a worst two seasons in recent history and they have beaten us by 14 in a somewhat close game and then they nearly crapped the bed and eventually won in overtime. Let them get excited all they want and let them enjoy it while they can. They are a striving middle of the pack team at best.
My thoughts exactly. Tressel at least runs a respectable program (to the public's eye, anyway). I'll admit it, I root for OSU when they take our trip to Pasadena. When they go to the Rose Bowl and represent the Big Ten, I think they do it well.
Dantonio, on the other hand, has already shown that he is completely classless. I will never root for MSU, regardless of the opponent.
Am I the only one who hates Spartans much more than Buckeyes?
I don't. But I respect them less.
You hit the nail on the head. I hate the Buckeyes more, and heading into a season that is the one game I hope to win more than any other. MSU is an afterthought most seasons, and even during "massive 2-game losing streaks" the MSU football program is so far inferior both in tradition and class that it is virtually impossible to respect them as a collective population.
In terms of quality of University and football tradition, however, I respect ND more than OSU. Both have annoying fanbases, but even though the OSU ones aren't nearly as delusional the quality of academics at ND makes it a much more natural rival for UM as an actual place of learning that happens to have a solid football team most years.
I f***in hate Notre Dame the most...those cock suckers...as for MSU's stadium...I think it was designed by a clinical retard. Who the f*** puts in all those ramps to the top...like seriously...must have an IQ of 4.
This reads almost exactly like an RCMB post......the only thing that is missing is the emoticons
The little smiley face that walks back and forth with a sign next to the one rolling its eyes. i can see it now.
This comment is fantastic, sir.
Tone it down a little
I will think before I type next time.
What I said really warranted a -94? Thank you everyone for being so forgiving.
Don't complain about being negged, it only gets worse if you do... its like quicksand, except that if you complain enough you become a NOS
Spartans hate us but have little to show for it (exception being hoops).
Buckeyes hate us but have little to show for it (exception being football).
I am an equal opportunity hater of both.
Their rationale, although absurd, is not unpredictable. They will never escape U of M's shadow.
Also, I find it hard to hate them because I have quite a few friends who are Spartan fans. With that said, I do hate losing to them more than any other team.
I agree with you the most out of these responses. I find it difficult to feel an intense rivalry because they just don't match up. It means so much for them to beat us, but I just expect to beat them every time. Mike Hart summed up my feelings with the "little brother" comment.
opportunity hater. OSU, MSU and Dame losses typically get a smile from me. I never root for OSU. I enjoyed it when LSU and Florida made them look awful in BSC NC games, and I despise Florida and LSU.
When Dame plays MSU, I typically pull for the underdog/lesser team, but don't relish any victory. I like that MSU has pretty much had Dame's number for a while, but has typically imploded later in the season. Best of both worlds. Sparty gets a moment in the sun, only to melt like sundae.
When MSU plays OSU, I got to go with Sparty. Not happy about it, but I'm willing to let MSU fans crow a bit if it means misery in Columbus. Plus my dad's a life long Spartan fan (oh the suffering he's endured), and he always not only tolerated my Michigan fandom but actively encouraged it by taking me to games AA all the time when I was a kid. At the time, I thought this was no big deal, that's what dads do, but as a father now of a 6-year old boy, I have to say if my son asked me to take him to a MSU or OSU game over a UofM game, I don't know if I would do it. I probably would in the end, but it would kill me.
Anyway, I'm happy for my dad when Sparty does well, even if inside I'm gleeful when they spit the bit.
You're not the only one...
I hate State fans more than any other. They have haven't accomplished anything worth mentioning on a football field for a very long time, except for lose in embarrassing fashion.
that comes to mind for some reason is a couple of drunk/beligerant OSU fans being escorted out of the stadium by police.
My buddy is an MSU alum and has season tickets. It was a bad day for Sparty as they were completely thrashed by OSU. The tailgating was good though and I was tolerated even in my UM gear.
is an average college football stadium. It does what it's supposed to do, but it doesn't have that "Wow, this is cool" feeling you get walking into the Big House, or for that matter Notre Dame.
and wow. Just wow.
"Bad place to watch a game"
"How small is scUM's **** that they need a stadium that big?"
"Wow, we're obsessed with Michigan on an MSU blog, never thought i'd see that"
I know i'm spoiled by the quality of content here on MGoBlog... but I mean, c'mon
I just started laughing when I saw their thread started with a link to Freep!
before i stopped reading completely...
RCMB has more emoticons than content
of course they reference the East Lansing Free Press
But then again I always do...
With all our higher-level thinking skills, we need to go beyond arguing our points reasonably, and start confusing the hell out of them with good logic. For example, the nickname scUM that they always love to use. "Did you know scum is another name for algae on the surface of water? This scum plays a vital role in the ecosystem. So thank you for your compliment." or "Soap mixed in with water sometimes forms a layer of what is referred to as "scum," so thank you, I do think we are pretty squeaky clean over here."
And if he really jumps to assuming that it's all about penis size, and that we all have a collective penis as a fan base, we know what he is really thinking about. It means he's a hell of a lot less secure in his penis than we are in our collective penis. Have I said the word penis enough yet? Plus the fact that our stadium is in the ground for the most part. Theirs is the one that juts up into the sky and has a half naked man out front. Connect the dots? Hey look RCMB insults... I'm stooping a bit too much.
I grew up near Spartan Stadium, and I always enjoyed going to games there. It is not the Big House, but I remember seeing a lot of great games there. I wish that the Big House was as loud at Spartan Stadium usually is.
I will enjoy kicking their butts this year!
Get out.
this isn't loud?
Spartans i can live with, the delirious fans settling with the 'as long as we beat Michigan our season is saved mentality', are another story.
I did and I honestly feel dumberer for doing so.
Edit: the MSU board comments are what I am talking about
What they've all just said is some of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
At no point in their rambling, incoherent board responses were they even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.
Everyone on this board is now dumber for having read it.
Award them no points, and may God have mercy on their collective souls...
I see what you did there.....
to the UM/MSU game when Plaxico played there. He came off the field a few times and whined and complained the whole time on the bench about not getting the ball.
If that was the game where he had 10 catches for 255 yards, setting school records, and was still complaning, what a disgrace.
...those that live in OSU have much more hate for OSU and those in Michigan hate MSU more.
Really which school's fans you have to deal with the most.
I live in more ND land now more than any other school in general, but I grew up in Michigan and while I hate OSU at least they have won enough to earn some grudging respect. MSU gets to a bowl game a few years in a row and it is like they won 3-4 NC along the way.
I am sure this is not groundbreaking research but just a general feel I get from being on the GBW board for many a years now.
As far as UM vs MSU stadium....only one has a nickname that any average sport's fan would know what school plays their games there....THE BIG HOUSE!!!
It feels really small in comparison to the Big House. And some aspects of it seem cheap(feels like a high school stadium whereas the Big House feels more like a college powerhouse). Apart from that, I really don't have anything that I can knock them for. I was in the student section when we played them last year at Spartan Stadium, and while I got my fair share of crap for wearing Michigan gear in their student section (as I should), the students around me were generally respectful. Although you could tell from casual conversation that the average MSU student wasn't as intelligent as the average Michigan student.
I agree with the prison reference. When walking around outside of the bleachers, all you see in concrete, steel bars and you are very confined due to the structure of the stadium. It looks like a dump and really cheasy with the huge player posters up. If they hadn't added their boxes a few years back, it would really look like a shithole, and the boxes didn't improve much. I also can't stand the upper deck, as it goes straight up, putting you higher than any row at The Big House. I also agree that it has the feel of a large Texas H.S. team's stadium.
Check that poster in the middle. Looks like an old Soviet propaganda photo.
Big House >> Halfway House
Spartan Stadium has the jumbrotron game where you follow the little ball and guess which cup it's underneath and the drunk students act like they are the smartest people alive when they win. The Whitecaps in Grand Rapids play the same game -- little kids act the same way. That is how I categorize Spartan Stadium.
