Apparently Iowa fans don't like us very much

Submitted by jtmc33 on

It's kind of like the cool kid in High School that realizes that the nerds he looks down upon actually have the audacity to hate him -- even though he is very handsome, athletic, smart, and well endowed. Oh, well. At least everyone in Madison and Champaign realize how awesome we are.

Just wait until we take them down in the Big House this year.  TO think we were so close last year and we've only improved!

The Big Ten better be On Notice!

Wait, we are rivals with Iowa?  When did this happen?  Aside from the past two years, this was usually one of the gimme games on our schedule - sort of like Purdue, Eastern, Western and Central.

Iowa?

From my experience, most teams in the B10 considers us a rival of sorts.  I had a GF that went to Iowa and everytime I visited during the Michigan game, they were brutal.  Total inferiority complex.  Being from Illinois, most UofI fans consider us their biggest rivals.  Looks like they forgot to tell UM.  Wisconsin fans hate us just cuz, Penn State fans have a lot of animosity towards us due to their 9 game losing streak (you think we have it bad against OSU), and our lack of interest in IU, PU, and Northwestern pisses them of.  Otherwise our natural rivals are always on tap (Minn, MSU, OSU, Notre Dame).

They really do hate Michigan.  Many of them consider it a rivalry game.  I had to explain to many a hawkeye that we were not their rival.  Try again.  Its a fun city, though.  Good bar scene - not much else to do.

of the hatred Iowa had for us until I moved to Chicago. Whenever Iowa fans ask where I went to school they get this look of disgust and take it upon themselves to explain how much they hate Michigan. It's actually pretty surprising that they consider us one of their top rivals. Congrats Iowa fans for not even being in our top three...

I don't think you know the right Iowa fans.  They hate Wisconsin, Northwestern, and Minnesota much more than they hate Michigan.

Also, that shirt is like a year old man.

Edit: And they hate Iowa State the most.  I forgot about them, but then again, its so easy to.

I feel like Iowa probably feels like a poor man's Michigan at times. Not so much anymore since RR came in and changed the system. But they we kind of modeled after us. Even Ferentz was talked about coming in to coach here when Carr left. Plus we all know they are good buddies.

Both of us have been to an equal number of BCS bowls this decade. They've actually won one. I'd venture they probably have a better overall record from 2000-2010. I'm not sure looking at them in a parochial fashion makes any sense.

Well obivously not current history. UofM lately is a poor mans UofM. I was just thinking overall big picture. Buuuut, If anyone disagrees than I take no responsibility for anything I have said on this thread. :)

Get in line Fockers.

By my calculation (re: ra-tard) Iowa should hate UM 9th worst of all the BT foes

MINN 70 L's vs. M

MSU 67 L's  vs. M

ILL 66 L's vs. M

OSU 57 L's vs. M

NW 52 L's vs. M

IND 51 L's vs. M

WIS 49 L's vs. M

PUR 41 L's vs. M

IOWA 40 L's vs. M

PSU 10 L's vs. M

But after much pondering I have them tied for 2ed.

1 OSU/MSU/ND

2 Everyone else.

Don't look at total wins or losses.  Look at the winning percentage.  If you look at the records, you'll note that we've played OSU, MSU, Minnesota and Illinois far more than all the rest.  (The Big Ten used to allow four protected games a year; since 1993 it's been two.)

Hence the ra-tard part. You want in depth numbers ask the mathlete, I shoot from the hip.

ILL 73.6% (91xplayed)

IND 85.0% (60xplayed)

IOW 76.3% (55xplayed)

MSU 68.1% (102xplayed)

MINN 73.7% (97xplayed) by jmblue calculation I suppose.

OSU 56.6 (106xplayed)

NW 76.8 (69xplayed)

PSU 66.6% (15xplayed)

PUR 74.5% (55xplayed)

WIS 78.5% (63xplayed)

72.9% of the time, it works every time...

Pretty much every school in the Big 10 think Michigan is their huge, if not #1 rival.

I remember going to a game at Illinois one year and every single student was wearing a "Muck Fichigan" shirt.  It was a shirt w/ the entire schedule on the back with the Michigan game highlighted as the big one.

It literally made no sense to me.  I kind of felt bad for them.  Also, Champaign smells like cow shit.  So they don't have a lot going in their favor...

I've considered Iowa my favorite non-Michigan Big Ten team for awhile now, and this shirt confirms it. They are like the crazy cousins you never see but always pull bizarre pranks at the family Christmas party.

Interesting hearing others' take on Iowa fans and their so called rivalry with us.  I went to the game last year and found their fans to be incredibly hospitable.  They were really, really, nice.  I had many conversations with Hawkeye fans who welcomed us there.  I asked one guy about this and he said that they like Michigan, but they all hated Ohio State.  We instantly bonded off of that statement.

And it means:

-we're looking at naked girls pillow fighting... from a ladder

- I'm about to smash this guitar

- Toga

-I'm going to slurp this jello

-someone just asked a Samurai to cut something

-I didn't miss our wedding on purpose

in addition to a host of other meanings

Clever. I was also amused that they don't realize that the blue is the Upper Peninsula. It's also fitting that the colors are maize and blue and not green and white. gotta wonder if any msu fans will have hater envy.

I live in Des Moines and I can tell you that for whatever reason, Iowa fans have it out for the Wolverines.  That tee-shirt at BHGP has been around a couple years now.  I think it got much worse after Michigan landed Adrian Arrington out of Cedar Rapids.  That really stung the Hawkeye faithful.  Anytime I ask someone around here why Iowa fans hate Michigan, I often get some sort of smart ass response in line with what the T-shirt says.  Very seldom can anyone give me a legitimate, well thought response.  Quite frankly, I think it is jealousy.

... a problem with iowa or wisconsin fans on the ESPN boards, and ive never seen a badger troll before. they usually stay on their own boards and only say stuff about us when were playing each other. Now OSU and MSU fans are a different story, it seems that whenever adam writes something on his BT blog the first comment is usually from a state fan whos trolling. The difference between the fan bases is the badgers are good, but they know that before 1990 they were nothing, and MSU is still in denial.
