Not rehashing whether these recruiting tactics are necessary or not, I can't help but wonder if when Harbaugh first arrived and started recruiting he noticed the Michigan offer wasn't carrying as much weight as some of the other traditional powerhouses anymore, I think there's an argument that outside of the midwest the offer was at least a half step below other elite national programs.
Doing the satellite camps and making connections as quickly and to as many regions as possible was necessary, but perhaps the recent wave of 'being more selective' was just as necessary to bring the perception recruits have of a Michigan offer back up to that elite level. Obviously winning consistently will do that, but by showing how selective Michigan now is again and that you have to compete through the end to earn your offer, combined with a solid season and things trending the right way maybe that helps speed up the process of how the offer is viewed now instead of after a few more winning seasons.
It will be interesting to see if we see this tactic used as frequently moving forward, my guess would be that we still see it used with 2 or 3 recruits a year but that some transparency is provided and it won't be the number it is in this recruiting cycle.

This crowd was probably the most consistently loud throughout that I've heard in a long time, and reminded me of how opposing QB's had a hard time hearing during big games in the early 90's.
On one play in the second half, I'm pretty sure Thorson was trying to get a play off quicker but couldn't because his center couldn't hear him, and I'm sure it happened more than the time I noticed. If our crowd can stay that loud throughout the game, I can only imagine how much harder that makes it for the opposing team. Go Blue!

Yeah, I'll be driving through the middle of nowhere on the way to a wedding so was looking for options other than streaming from a phone, thanks though.

Has anybody been able to find what SiriusXM station will carry it, if at all?
The original listing was 195, but there is another game they are broadcasting at that noon time slot.

While a lot of recruits say they emphasize academics, I think Clark truly does and he'll end up back in the fold. California is a long flight from Connecticut and it sounds like he's wanted to end up at Michigan.

and usually go to a couple games at Soldier per year. Be respectful and you'll be fine, expect to get some decently natured barbs thrown your way, but nothing too bad. You can cheer your team on but just be aware of what type of Bears fans are around you and don't go overboard.
The only issue I've ever witnessed was last year when Calvin caught a TD over Tillman to clinch the game. An extremely drunk Lions fan a couple rows back went nuts celebrating, and a moderately drunk Bears fan took issue. Words were exchanged and the result was the Lions fan taking multiple punches to the face. Basically just use common sense and you'll be fine.

ESPN just quoted Ace (from this article) on SportsCenter. Great work Ace!

Friend was running late who was coming from out of town and when we got there we were down 3, which was quickly rectified when we rattled off the next 49 and shut them out the rest of the way. I think I still have that long sleeved 'Blue Out' shirt somewhere.

is up there for me. First game as a student, on the heels of welcome week, and college gameday was there. Brabbs' game winning field goal right into our end of the stadium was a nice way to kick off the season.
The MSU game that season wasn't bad either. After going down 3-0 we rattled off 49 points and never let them score again.

Our cat would be Gabe Watson. Freakish athleticism and burst for a creature that large.

All of this from using the word ‘fickle’ in response to a question about the possibility of there being more buckeye fans than Michigan fans this Saturday. And a relatively insignificant question at that.
Let’s think about this. Was Hoke simply expressing how disappointing it would be if this situation materialized on Saturday, for the players, especially the seniors who are playing their last home game? Or in that second he had to form a response to the hypothetical, do people really think he was going over pricing schemes/increases in his head and trying to take a shot at the fans regardless?
Not sure the context of which he was responding to the question requires a tantrum. Come on, man.
|2 years 10 weeks ago||Yeah.||
I was directly speaking to #2 here. Not sure where the confusion is.
|2 years 10 weeks ago||Completely agree.||
If you were planning on going to the game when the team was performing closer to your expectations and are no longer planning on doing so because they are not, I believe that is the definition of fickle.
A lot of people were crying out for Hoke to give them something at his press conferences, and now they're complaining because some small part of what he did say is true and they don't like it?
Seems quite simple to me. If you like the University of Michigan football team then go to the game on Saturday if you were planning on doing so. If you don't want to go anymore solely because of how they're playing, that's your choice but don't cry about being called fickle. Yes, tickets are expensive but you already made arrangements to go. Are we only supposed to support the team when they are playing well?
|2 years 10 weeks ago||Upvote!||
Really wish I could upvote this. I don't agree with everything Dave Brandon does, but I also don't feel like much of it impacts a lot of things about the gameday atmosphere that I've enjoyed my entire life and what I can see my nephews/niece continue to enjoy.
It is frustrating that a loss on a fall Saturday makes the following week more difficult, but I wouldn't trade my Michigan fandom for that of any other team. I understand everyone has their own way of being a fan, but in the end isn't the fun part of being a fan about supporting the team/university that we all identify with in some way?

Watching the team struggle this year and in recent years has been frustrating, sure. But each season also has its excitement and regardless of the ups and downs is something I will always look forward to. I admit some of the stadium experience has changed but I’m not sure if any of that would have impacted the development of my initial love for Michigan and does not significantly impact my love for it now.
Nothing beats the atmosphere of Ann Arbor on gamedays, the tailgating with other friends/fans/alumni, the nostalgia of visiting campus, and simply the overall sentiment that everyone is supporting the Maize and Blue. Not much has changed when you hear Carl Grapentine’s voice, the band taking the field, the excitement of the players as they rush the field and touch the banner, hearing the band play The Victors, or any of the countless other gameday traditions that make going back enjoyable.
In the end, it is still a group of student athletes that work extremely hard to represent the University we all passionately associate with, and for the most part represent it very well on and off the field. This is the reason I will always be excited for football season and is also the reason I plan on getting season tickets for the first time since being a student next year. Yeah the schedule isn’t great and we’d all like the team to be performing better, but I will always support the University of Michigan and sincerely hope (/know) most of you will be there this coming Saturday and next season. Win or lose, Michigan football has provided some of my greatest memories and I have no doubt will continue to do so.
