Andrew David is 3rd on the depth chart

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

While I'm not going to give away the full bit on the kicking situation that was posted on Scout, I will say that Andrew David is 3rd on the depth chart.

Kind of disappointing and worrying. Especially since the staff passed on Quinn Nordin.

That's all I really can post without giving away the full bit of information on who will be the kicker.

Each Harbaugh drive will take a full 60 minutes as it grinds the opponenet into a fine-powdered dust.

We won't need no stinkin' kicker.

In grade school, I played Mattel Football everyday with my best friend. That is, until we got so good at it, that each of us could almost surely score on a single play, or take the whole half evading defenders to score. 70-63 shootouts became 7-7 ties. A possession equaled a touchdown.

Unless an unsuspecting outsider played. One of us would let them go first, and whether or not they scored, they'd never see the ball again. Victory 14-7 or 14-0.

If I remember correctly Sam stated on WTKA that he knew Michigan will get back in contact with him if things don't improve throughout the season with out current kickers. I do not have a scout subscription so I'm not giving away any premium content or anything.

Ship may not have completely sailed on Nordin. He always wanted to be a Wolverine and only committed elsewhere because our staff said they didn't have room. I bet we have a strong shot if we suddenly do have room.

This is just that time of year when, how do I say this delicately, certain posters turn their various half-baked thoughts into threads at an impressive clip.

People bemoaned the loss of OT season, but it's not like there aren't 25 threads a day where people talk about who they think will be X, who isn't good enough to be Y and they just start flame wars.

Kicker may well be the most fluid position on any football team; the fact a guy is sitting somewhere on August 30th is kind of irrelevant, and this thread just feels like a bit of a slag at David for whatever reason.

but at the same time, seems like folks take some of this much more personally or seriously than they should.  Bitching and moaning from behind a keyboard on a Sunday morning about such a post, or worse....issuing a downvote (ooohhh, scary...) because of it seems to be a bit of an overreaction, imo.

Yeah..given there is a thread about 5 down that discusses special teams in detail, one might actually think that would have been a better place to put this info about the kicking situation. But some people love starting new threads as they view their info as so important that they dont want to risk people not seeing their addition to an existing thread.

But I agree with the rest...

David wasn't at the scrimmage - I assume he's hurt or something disciplinary - but I wasn't expecting him to start. I think that's WD's point. He was just confirming what was already speculated (that he's not going to start) during and immeidately after the scrimmage.

I give WD the benefit of the doubt on this, because to me, it just seems like he was trying to confirm something rather than share inside information.

Same if this thread was about Wheatley not playing or something - we kind of already know that, but nothing was confirmed.

I don't disagree that the bulk of the post was pure information, but what bothered me was this statement thrown in:

Kind of disappointing and worrying. Especially since the staff passed on Quinn Nordin.

It just feels like an unnecessary comment, insinuating that David may not pan out and that UM should still be going after another kicker. Maybe I'm overreacting, but WD has a reputation around here of sometimes taking extreme positions, and I'm a bit defensive about people calling out players after what has happened in years past regarding Lewan, Gardner, and Funchess, amongst many others.

His post almost complies with this blog's stated policy, but fails to link the source - insider or not

What gets deleted. Copy and pastes of any premium content, even small sections that would be fair use of publicly available information. Posts that talk about premium content and do not link to the original source. Posts that relate every detail. And some posts that don't rise to the "this will be reposted in twelve seconds" standard.

However, he has never answered my question as to why he photoshopped the Brandon email. An email which allegedly was sent just minutes after a Michigan road victory, from an alleged Michigan office account.

I saw him luck against perrysburg last year and was not impressed. His FG went through but it was very weak. His KO didn't make it to the 10yd line.

Did you ever think that this may be a motivational tactic for Harbaugh? I'm sure he would have done this with Shane Morris as well, and Shane might actually be worth a damn as a QB now.

Kicker is the second most important position on the field after QB. Kind of important to make sure they are trained correctly.

You know who puts more points on the board than a kicker? The offense. And you know who the only guy is who touches the ball on every offensive play? The center.

If kickers were so important, the NFL wouldn't draft them late or just wait for UDFA time.

start assuming the worst. David is a true freshman and no matter how much talent somebody has it takes time to get comfortable, at least mentally, performing on a much larger stage and a big part of kicking is the mental side of it. Seychel and Allen were also pretty highly thought of coming in, Seychel in particular was mentioned as having NFL potential.
