Amir Williams drops Michigan
I'm sorry to report this news:
@ReggieRankin: Just spoke with Amir Williams he will decide weds between Ohio State and Florida eliminated Purdue, DePaul and Michigan
Lets at least hope he picks Florida. Looks like Coach will still need to find a legit big man for 2011.

Basketball Recruiting: It's an ugly game.
November 15th, 2010 at 10:24 PM ^
Shocked! We are a ways away from being able to compete with the likes of that list for recruits. I think John B can get Michigan there. It was good to see Michigan mentioned and I think it speaks to his recruiting ability.

Recruits are so selfish. Why don't they think of me when making their decision?
November 15th, 2010 at 10:29 PM ^
With all the 4s and 5s being freshmen, I'd rather they wait until 2012 to add another.
November 15th, 2010 at 10:31 PM ^
Too bad, always good to get a big time local big man.
November 15th, 2010 at 10:55 PM ^
hasn't been kind to us lately
November 15th, 2010 at 10:57 PM ^
when it sent us Weber either!
We just got to win more - winning cures everything.

...but then I realized the name misspelling. I guess I'm not over 1993 yet. Tarter sauce.
November 15th, 2010 at 11:17 PM ^
Timeout. I see what you did there.
November 15th, 2010 at 11:23 PM ^
sent us Demens, so not a total void from there.
GO BLUE!
November 15th, 2010 at 11:33 PM ^
dont forget Jordan Dumars!
November 16th, 2010 at 9:48 AM ^
Once upon a time ever top DCD BBall prospect went to M....at least we gave M Demens.

Looks like that last scholarship is going to get banked for 2012 unless there's another Colton Christian level surprise in the offing.
I'm actually okay with that as the bigs are young and unless we're dealing with a Williams level talent I think a 2011 body just adds to the logjam.

Ed-M: removed for bad taste. Next time, mod-bang.
November 15th, 2010 at 11:15 PM ^
This is massive mod neg bang worthy.

EDIT-Nothing to see here. Response to the now deleted scumbaggery above. Carry on smartly.

Sorry to offend, yall.

Michigan. He was a long shot at best.
November 15th, 2010 at 11:41 PM ^
But this kid seems like he is destined to be a career underachiever. He is not a high skill guy and his height advantage will be eliminated in college. I'd be surprised if he ended up being as good as Dallas Lauderdale or someone of that ilk.
November 16th, 2010 at 12:19 AM ^
almost had a triple double with eight blocks on Friday. I think we'd take him.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:35 AM ^
I never said Dallas Lauderdale was not good or that we would not take him. I was saying that Amir Williams will not even be that good and let's not pretend like Dallas Lauderdale is an all-big ten performer.
November 16th, 2010 at 1:00 AM ^
this makes me really wish we would've landed Dom Pointer in this class. Missing on him was a pretty big blow.

It may take another year or two for a five-star to sign with Michigan, but it will happen. JB's position on the Ethics Committee helps distance Michigan from "old news." The facilities will finally be better or at least neutral compared to everyone else instead of being a detriment. The team is getting taller, too, and the team is now populated with JB recruits..
Besides, we may already have "that" player on the team. I'm not so sure that Horford won't be better than Williams in three years.

I feel like such an idiot, but can someone explain to me how the scholarship count works for basketball.
Do we only have one spot remaining for 2011? If we take another in 2011 does that mean we wont have any more spots in 2012 not including attrition?
November 16th, 2010 at 8:57 AM ^
Barring any attrition:
- 2011: Michigan has one spot remaining, with Burke and Brundidge in the fold
- 2012: If they use that remaining 2011 scholarship, they have two scholarships available for 2012, one of which is already reserved for Glenn Robinson III. If they bank the 2011 scholarship, they would have three available for 2012 (one of which, again, is Robinson's).
Another way to look at it is that at least two scholarships have to open up in 2012 because Novak and Douglass are seniors next year. Same thing in 2013--two scholarships open up because Morris and Vogrich will be seniors for the 2011-12 season.

DAMMIT.

Not to hate on OSU more than normal, but how does Thad Matta get all of these kids year-in and year-out? We always talk about guys like Calipari and their shifty recruiting, but somehow Matta has been pulling in huge classes almost every year despite being at a school for football will always be king and where he hasn't won anything before (and going to the NC game once doesn't seem like enough).
November 16th, 2010 at 9:57 AM ^
Best of luck (hopefully) in Florida.
November 16th, 2010 at 10:11 AM ^
Not good for us if he goes to OSU....Dare I say Go Gato...whoops, almost did it but glad I didnt. Personally, I do not care where he goes but I hope he realizes what a big mistake he made and could have been a signature player very quickly
November 16th, 2010 at 1:05 PM ^
I didn't see Kentucky on the list......
November 16th, 2010 at 12:14 PM ^
Is a hell of a player. But im not sure he has the skill set to thrive at um anyway
November 16th, 2010 at 1:06 PM ^
The coaching staff doesn't think like you.
November 16th, 2010 at 12:24 PM ^
This is a bummer, but we have 5 bigs (Colton, McLimans, Metrics, Horford and Morgan who are all frosh in eligibility). Taking a year off isn't going to kill us here. If there is another solid player at the 3, 4 or 5 that we want, take him, otherwise focus on getting three stars in 2012.
November 16th, 2010 at 12:28 PM ^
I thought that was only in football.....

November 16th, 2010 at 6:53 PM ^
I was hoping we would get him.
