Why is it the two most likely coaches right now, are coaches that I would prefer we didn't hire. Miles is a douche bag and Hoke is so unknown that all I know about him is that he is fat, at least prior to a couple weeks ago anyway.

I would also like to take this time and say that I have lost all faith in DB. He fired his coach and it would appear that he didn't have a plan in place to replace him. No matter who he hires at this point I would say he fucked this up fantastically.

Yes we will. Only I root for Michigan so that is OK. I know I am a hypocrite but what ever at this point. My problem with Harbaugh is he passed on Michigan knowing that this may be his only oppurtunity to ever coach at this University. So yeah that makes me say fuck him.

Bitter much?  He moved on to a bigger opportunity in the pros.  Maybe you're disappointed that he's not our coach, but have some class.    "I wish him nothing but failure".  Maybe you were in the "welcome home Harbaugh" camp to begin with, but wow.  Maybe sit out a few plays

They are just the usual suspect names that keep popping up on the internet.  Hopefully in the next day or two we see the plan (I can understand Brandon waiting until the dust has settled on the Harbaugh thing to announce/decide anything).

Hopefully my continued willingness to give DB the benefit of the doubt will be rewarded when Jon Gruden is putting on a martial arts demonstration at mid court during tomorrow's half time festivities at Crisler.

I know we got killed in the Gator Bowl and that this was supposedly the final nail in RR's coffin, but honestly, I don't understand why - it's not like the team became magically became more talented over the course of a month since the OSU game. Sure, RR made some coaching mistakes - but honestly, you could bring in Rex Ryan or Bill Belicheck and that defense would still have been a mess, because it's fundamentally an issue of starting young, inexperienced guys and walk-ons. Coaching was arguably not the main problem - talent was, and that's not an insult to our kids, just the recognition that many of them are extremely young and inexperienced.

Misissippi State is a very good football team that hung with the best of the SEC - why did anyone anticipate that we would be able to compete at that level when it's obvious that the talent differential between Michigan and the good Big Ten teams is huge, to say nothing of the SEC?

I think RR deserved another year, on the condition that there was a shakeup on defense. The great irony is that we fired a good coaching mind and will now probably end up with the pedestrian schemes of Brady Hoke.

Michigan's offense, RR's supposed saving grace, never scored after the first quarter of the OSU game and the Gator Bowl. So suddenly the one thing keeping RR's job in tact, our awesome offense, had regressed massively. This after a month of practicing and preparing. And this is with a fully healthy offense in the Gator Bowl. It was the final straw for me, and I was a big RR supporter going into the bowl.

Honestly is there anyone on this board who really doesn't believe the next coach WON'T be Hoke?  Honestly?

There is no other coach who is either more available, fits what Brandon wants, LOVES the university, understands the rivalries, and would literally eat the heads of our rivals.

I'm not saying he is the best coach, but what I am saying he is the best coach we can get currently and fits all of our needs (debatable how well but he DOES fit all of the needs outlined by Brandon).

I personally would love Patterson but that is a pipe dream.  And for those who really think it will be Les Miles, we are talking about a university that still won't let Chris Webber on campus. We impose our own sanctions on football coaches who ask their players to excessively stretch.  There is NO chance we will hire Les Miles.  We are far too conservative to hire Les Miles.

We could get Dirk Koetter right now.  We could probably get Jeff Tedford.  There are loads of other guys we could get as well that just don't get mentioned.  All of them are better coaches than Brady Hoke.

If Hoke is hired then Brandon is completely incompetent.

Chris Webber is not allowed to associate with Michigan basketball, per the NCAA, until 2012.  Not that he should ever be associated with Michigan basketball again anyway, but this particular instance is not at the University's behest.

Miles scares me.  I thought there would never be anything that could make me give up my Michigan fandom.  The Horror, 3-8, the endless winter of dong punches never made me stop wearing Maize and Blue.

Now an oversigning scumbag who lies to his players and cuts them with form letters.  That would drive me away from the program.  Come on DB, Hoke and losing with class is better than Miles and winning with a scumbag in charge.

Because he isn't Harbaugh, he's a bad guy.

Kind of the same way that because Brady Hoke isn't Harbaugh, he's the most inept rube to ever coach a football game.

There's going to be universal disdain around here no matter who Dave Brandon hires because it's already been decided that Dave Brandon is an aimless idiot, merely because Jim Harbaugh wanted to coach an NFL team in the Bay Area.

I think people are just freaking out because it looks like Brandon doesn't have a plan, in part because three days on the internet feels like 12 years (just think of how many places Harbaugh was or wasn't going to end up in just that short timeframe).

People don't think Hoke is a viable option because he's done nothing to prove he could be one of the top ten coaches in the country.  That is who we should be going after and Hoke falls behind an enormous list of guys if we're looking at qualifications rather than borderline competence combined with a tenuous former association with the University.

Also, Harbaugh is an asshole because he acts like an asshole (going for two, kind of being a prick, having too much to drink and getting in the car).  Miles is an asshole because he appears to operate his program without integrity or concern for his student athletes.  On the character front I think Harbaugh has the edge until further notice when it comes to the question of "Who would I rather have as the face of the football program?"

I'm just throwing this out for more specualtion... haven't heard Mangini discussed. He's all NFL and doesn't have ties to Michigan... on the other hand, he's a great young defensive minded coach... if we're talking Gruden, why not throw Mangini into the mix.

I am just worried that the detroit media will have a field day with Miles. They'll agitate him until he says some crazy shit and then we'll become the coaching laughingstock of the league.

If anyone around here remembers Goss, the halo, the Amaker hire, the red ink in the AD, they might be inclined to cut Martin some slack. Succession on the football staff was about the only thing he really blew, isn't it? OK, sure, that's probably the single biggest thing he could have blown but a lot of people around here thought a hiring like RR was exactly what we needed when going outside LC's staff was the only avenue. He sure as hell moved the AD forward onto better ground overall.

I wonder why Mullen isn't talked about more as a candidate. I think he would be a good coach here. All he would need is to hire an old Michigan assistant or two and he would be accepted.

Gruden has always publicly squashed any rumors when his name comes up.  ND and Miami come to mind.  Anyone heard from Chuckie this past week?

I have to think To Many Miles and Old School Hoke are fallback options and DB is talking to some homeruns promising some serious money.  If I were DB I would rather swing and miss with a huge name rather than second choices.

I realize everyone under the sun has been turning us down but the lack of other names out there actually gives me hope as backwards as that sounds.

If DB just waited to break the news of the new coach right before the AA game (which is right now) and all the kids that were committing to other schools picked Michigan out of the BLUE. And, what coach would have that influence?
