Submitted by Mr. Yost on

ATM-Northwestern, Stanford-OSU, Illinois-UCLA. I feel bad for Iowa. ALSUNC is dead to me. FSU-ND is interesting mostly because ND played Miami last year.

The BCS proved it's no better than a cheap prostitute. How does Virginia Tech get in a BCS bowl over a Baylor/KSU/Boise? And then the whole LSU/Bama deal....I'm glad for Michigan, but the whole thing is ridiculous

Like Viper said to Jester, "Got you, didn't he?"

Heck, they beat us! (Granted it took 2 TDs called back and a pass interference no call)

They will be fine! I hate Oklahoma!

There are so few bowl games worth watching this year. How could anyone look at this schedule and argue FOR the bowl system? I can't see myself watching any pre-2012 bowl games.

I am going to echo Herbstreit's assessment of the Sugar Bowl. Yes, we deserve to be there. But Va. Tech? That is a joke. This is supposed to be about the best of the rest. How can a team who just got destroyed by Clemson and already had a loss get an at-large bid over K-State, Baylor, Boise St., etc?

Money should not be the deciding factor. That's not the purpose of the BCS. And no need to tell me money controls everything, I know this.

On a side note, how about Craig James giving Michigan so much love! First he ranks us 10th and then says Brady Hoke should be COY over Bill Snyder. And everybody on here hates him! Haha..I'll continue to dislike him, however.

I can understand the Sugar Bowl's thinking. They lost a shot on a good SEC team because the BCS is doing a re-match, and VT travels extremely well. Plus, they aren't that bad. I definatly agree Boise deserves more though.

Also, I have a hard time repecting Craig James most of the time. I read somewhere on the internet he killed 5 hookers while at SMU.

This is the definition of a homer statement. We are deserving but VT is only in for money reasons? Everyone knows we're only in because of our huge fan base (i.e. huge cash flow). I'm super excited that we're in the Sugar Bowl but this is a pretty bogus argument.

Who knows who's better than us unless we play them, or at least play the same teams. I do know that we're ranked 13th. And I also know in the 100 threads this week trying to project where we would go that the consensus on this blog was that we would go if eligible because of our fan base and revenue potential. So now that we're in that doesn't apply? Like I said, I'm as happy as anyone, but let's be real here.

I think State has a better team than we do this year. And even if, subjectively, you think that Michigan has improved to the point that would likely beat State in a rematch, there's no fucking point to actually playing games if that subjective evaluation matters more than the results on the field. It's one thing to argue that Alabama is a better team than Okie State. I personally think this is bullshit too, because it denies the opportunity to at least test - if imperfectly - whether that is the case by pitting the Cowboys against LSU. But at least Bama and Okie State never squared off head to head. We did against MSU, and we lost. That's what matters. We should forget about 'better' entirely and look only at results.

If they finished in the top 14 they'd have a gripe. They finished at #17 - and not because of the human polls either, which put them a spot behind us. Sparty got dogged by the computers. Why? Look I imagine they saw that our two losses were by twenty points total, one to a top 25 and one to an unranked, and Sparty's were by 39 to a top 25 and an unranked. Head-to-head is probably not even evaluated on a lot of the computers. Otherwise, we both have one top-25 win, Sparty has an additional win and a loss - to the same team - which may even get factored as a tie to a top-ten team. So positive, but not by much.

At the end of the day, if Sparty had been close against ND or Nebraska they'd have an argument. They weren't, and so they weren't eligible.

The only folks who have a legit gripe are K-State - who's playing #6 Arkansas in the Cotton - and OK St. And I don't feel so bad for K St. So, poor Pokes. They got hosed. The BCS is screwed up in that way, and I hope Alabama gets slaughtered and the system is reformed. Otherwise the rest of the matchups are kind of awesome.

In which case Nebraska and Notre Dame are both better than MSU and deserve the bid more than Sparty does. How do you objectively, results-based, determine who among Michigan, MSU, and Nebraska is the best team? Well, you don't, you have to look beyond the games played between 'em, and you find that Michigan lost fewer of them.

So....what is the purpose of the BCS then? Besides matching up the #1 vs #2 teams in the country.

Face it - the answer is money. That's the purpose of the BCS. Ally some bowls together so they can get major-league matchups and rake in more dollars than they would have otherwise. And in the sense of taking a team because they put asses in the seats and jack up the TV ratings, what makes the BCS different from any other bowl?

o$u at 6-6 playing on Jan.2 ?? It really is all about $$$$.

It was enough of a head scratcher when we played Jan.1 last year after going 7-5, but this ?!?!

I hate you, but please, for the love of God, beat Georgia. We can't have re-matches of what happened to both of us last year. We need make some God damn pride and reputation for our conference.
