Unverified Voracity Has A Bus Comment Count

Brian

UMCGC-logo[1]Sponsor note. Chicago-based Wolverines headed to South Bend: there is a bus for you. Sports Power Weekends has a couple headed out from The Diag Bar & Grill [located here]. 59 bucks roundtrip gets you a spot, various goodies to and from, a tailgating spot, and the opportunity to collapse in a frazzled heap after something ridiculous happens at the end of the game. Alternative: traffic, not hopping on your MGoBlog mobile app to celebrate/commiserate.

Get on the bus!

Eating: almost eaten.

I'll plug this one more time during the last-day frenzy, but thanks to the work of the community around here Martavious Odoms is nearing his all-or-nothing 35k goal for his Pahokee kickstarter venture. The Daily interviews Odoms about his project and its goal:

The goal is to install a garden that can be self-sustaining — a project that values community involvement as much as getting food on tables. The funds raised will be used to buy the empty the plot, pay for tools and seeds and to hire people from the community to work on the garden.

Odoms would also like to see the money help give kids in the community after-school programs or to teach residents how to sow their own garden.

“This could give someone an opportunity to be part of something outside of their family to feel like they’re making a change, making a difference,” Odoms said.

The staple crops? Collared greens, green beans, black-eyed peas, tomatoes and okra, just to name a few.

“All the stuff that people eat here down here in the south,” Odoms said.

As of this instant, Odoms is a little over 3k away with eight days left. Get in on it.

TWIS and such. I went a little overboard on this week's This Week In Schadenfreude. Reconstructing the anarchy of a Colorado gamethread in which they're down 48-0 at one point became absorbing. Also, when the RCMB blows up they blow up spectacularly well:

WHAT DID I WATCH

I am completely terrified after witnessing the biggest failure of a game in my whole life.I really cannot even grasp what just happened. Are we really this bad? Is our offense completely non existent? Maxwell has had 3 years and this is what we get? I feel like god hates us. I live for Spartan Football, eat, breathe, sleep Spartan Football. I work overtime in the summer just so I can have enough money for season tickets and I get rewarded with this? What the f--- was that game? 3 points and never crossed their 30? Bell losing all Heisman talk.I felt like a snake bit me in the beginning and slowly but surely the venom ate away at my body. Yeah I know I will get down voted to hell for this but what I saw tonight was not good and the glimpses of all the bad are going to kick us in the ass this year

Applause. Unironic, tear-wiping applause. And there's like twice as much of this guy in the actual post. The RCMB is the John L Smith of message boards, except it can never be fired.

I promise I won't fire off more than a twitter zing or two this weekend if it goes poorly. TWIS next week: ND Nation versus You Guys. Please be ND Nation.

Gardnerceiving. He does not like the blocking:

"I don't feel like I'm ever going to be a person who loves to block," Gardner said with a laugh. "That comes with the position, but I don't think I'll ever love that."

He did pretty well in the UMass game from what I can see, FWIW. He is still a QB in his mind:

"I know I'm a quarterback, but as I've said in previous weeks, I'm helping the team, and I'm doing well."

We won't see where everything is in re: Devin QB until next fall camp. They just about have to move him back for spring since they'll only have Bellomy left. For now, he's got a potential breakout day coming.

They took my brains, but they gave me this extra G. Man, guys named "Gregg." This site has bombed Gregg Easterbrook in the past when… well, whenever he writes about college football, because all he ever writes about college football is about how dastardly it is that anyone would ever take another job. Occasionally he diverts from that topic to express bafflement that the laws of economics apply to it; mostly it's just the horror that anyone would accept having their salary tripled.

Anyway, the other guy named Gregg is paid to write things about sports stepped his game up recently:

Seriously? RT @GreggDoyelCBS: How can Bo Pelini demand toughness of his players? He had a tummy ache AND LEFT A GAME IN AN AMBULANCE

To his credit, he did back off of that after everyone called him an idiot. To his discredit: whoah, mega #SPROTSTAKE. Corn Nation says this is a "concern about news breaking in the twitter world," but the easily made error is easily corrected by a flurry of at replies comparing the offender's intelligence to that of a chipmunk. At least Doyel can recognize when he's craving acorns. Easterbrook has never shown any sort of similar capability.

Etc.: Jerald Robinson gets probation for his minor property crime. Orson on UF-Tennessee. Purdue has verbal commitments from a Dwayne Johnson—unfortunately an OL who will not get many opportunities to ask if you smell what he is cooking—and a Johnny Thompson—yes, a LB. Basketball season tickets on sale now. Derf. Individual three point shooting is pretty jittery. Hardaway should bounce back.

The Saint's DC who pretty much gave up on coaching ever again after providing the NFL a sworn affadavit that Vilma put up $10K to hurt Favre. Vilma claims to have 9 affadavits, and the best part? Williams signed his on 9/14.... not at all shady.

... that this covers material already presented and covered by other sworn testimony i.e. he said this already and is putting it in an affadavit "again".

I'm saving my popcorn for when another player sues Vilma for a career-ending injury during the BountyGate timeframe and the NFLPA has to choose which player to defend.

I totally feel sorry for that Spartan fan.  I honestly do, and I think this might be the first time in... let me check....yeah, a LIFETIME I have ever felt sorry for an anonymous spartan fan.

I think it was the thing about putting in extra hours over the summer.  Because man, I love my free time in the summers.  I am 8 to 5 in the office and then I am OUT OF THERE.

The amount of compassion you show towards other human beings is awe inspiring. I hope to one day be like you.

Why can't someone send a bus from Yarmouth Nova Scotia? Honestly, if it meant watching a UM football game live I would take a bus from here to do it. Can't wait until the kids are old enough to leave home alone with the wife for a few days so I can make the trip to AA to see a game. Maybe next years OSU game....A guy can dream!

Does the Daily even have copy editors? "Collared" greens? They are generally a pretty awesome student publication, but seriously...

In other news, this week's TWIS was amazing.

...TWIS and whether Brian mines ND Nation or MGoBlog, assuming the game has twists and turns, he really doesn't need to choose from among them. There will be ample material on the winning team's blog because throughout the game as the tides of fortune ebb and flow, so to do the ToUS.

Yeah I get it that you had two 11 win seasons... but come off it man. If you have half a memory in that head you would remember that you had a losing season within the last 5 years, and are like .500 as a program since the late 80s when you last went to the Rose Bowl... Its not like this is Nebraska in the mid 90s after their 28 straight win streak was snapped by Texas.

Yeah, if this guy is going to fly off the handle with the "God hates us" stuff after two years that were way better than average for them and an unprecedented winning streak against Michigan, I can't wait to see what he's going to post in the future, when MSU will probably return to being average.

Brian uses RCMB here, what does that mean?

Also, to Brian saying he went overboard on the TWIS this week, there is no such thing as overboard on TWIS.  I can never get enough 'freude it is so much fun.

Is the Red Cedar Message Board, or the lowest form of Michiganders, State fans who are just horrible. If you like how high-brow MGoBlog is... avoid RCMB like the plague. It's like MLive crossed with youtube comments and the comments at the end of political news articles with worse grammar and a bigger Sparty NO! complex.

I don't agree with your conclusion. More than wanting to play QB, Devin wants to help this team win.  First, Devin is exemplifying his selflessness regarding the team, willing to do whatever it takes to help the team. Secondly, Devin knew he wasn 't going to get many snaps backing up Denard, and he would be more valuable starting at WR, as opposed to backing up at QB. Third, because Devin is a fantastic football player and a fantastic athlete he is capable at excelling in this likely one year transition. Fourth, I expect Devin to be the starting QB in September, 2013.

If you haven't already, watch this presser with Devin Gardner, it will allow better context. Thank you Thorin.

I hope Devin is not the starting QB in September 2013.  It means we'll be losing likely our best WR from this year, plus it mean Devin would be the QB, something I'm not sold on.

I was very hopeful of Gardner the first couple years.  He just hasn't shown the level improvement needed to be the starting QB.  Luckily for him and us, he's a pretty incredible WR, so we just need a guy who can get him and Funchess the ball and we're all good.

For me it all depends on how Bellomy develops over the next year, because I don't see Shane Morris coming in and being a better option at QB over Devin Gardner. If Gardner is the best QB on the 2013 team, he is going to start. I think he will be the best QB in 2013

As far as WR's/TE's, it is about the deepest position on the team, in contrast to QB 2013, which will be very thin on depth especially so if Devin Gardner is playing WR.

FrankMurphy

September 18th, 2012 at 6:07 PM ^

I don't disagree with any of that. I'm sure Devin is a great kid and a team player. All I'm saying is that he would probably rather stay at QB and back up Denard than be switched to WR and risk losing the starting QB job next year to Bellomy, even if he would continue to see the field at WR. He's putting the interests of the team over his own personal goals, but his personal goals haven't gone away. He sees himself as a QB first and foremost, and that's the position that he ultimately wants to play.

I found this, which is pretty good, and there have been other statements from Gardner, echoing the theme, "I just want to get on the field".

http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2012/09/devin_gardner_playing_like_mic.html

"I just wanted to get on the field," Gardner said. "It didn't matter how. I mean, I can kick. I kicked in high school before. I kicked a field goal before. So if they need me to kick a field goal, extra point, I'd be happy to do it. I just want to get on the field."

They are making fun of Mike Hart...a guy who went UNDEFEATED against Sparty. They have absolutely no room to talk shit about Mike Hart.

EDIT: Damn! I really want to post something about his 4-0 record versus Sparty, but simply don't have the patience to make an account. Should anyone here have the desire to do so, please remind them of Mike's 4-0 record. Thanks.

The shocked reaction of State fan this week only proves what we all knew but couldn't say without being called "sour grapes": they aren't a fan base that has any point of reference for what playing championship football yearly  looks like.

When you lose a 4 year starting quarterback and receivers who seemingly were there even longer, how can you reasonably expect things like an MNC (I swear I heard it from over 10 of them) when you don't recruit above 3 star level save a rare player?

They still hang on to that "unbelievable" defense even after ND threw two touchdowns on them right off the bat and then coasted home.  When some team blows up the  apocrypha of the epic defense, get ready for some more classic posts on that blog.

Maybe that team they play on October 20 will handle that?

Anyone watched a game there? I just moved to the neighborhood and am planning on checking it out Saturday. Good place? Advice on how early to get there? Thanks.
