Hail To The Victors 2010
Apologies for the late content. My wireless card started acting funny this morning and I had to deal with drivers for the first time in a long while.
Hello. Every year I gather up a collection of the web's finest Michigan bloggers and scream and beg and plead and scream until they submit articles to me, which I lightly burnish and send to Maple Street Press, which puts it in a book which is then put on sale. Here's this year's edition:
- I do the usual preview of the team, this year with bonus excessive quarterback analysis.
- Jerry Hinnen previews the opponent schedule, except…
- Sam Eley, who used to run We Will Always Have Tempe, previews OSU.
- Johnny of RBUAS tackles Demar Dorsey, the phenomenon.
- Andy Reid, late of the Daily, interviews Fred Jackson about the jumbled tailback spot.
- Misopogon revises and publishes a version of the Decimated Defense you can send to all your friends who keep annoying you with their lack of context.
- Chris Brown of Smart Football goes in-depth on the 3-3-5's origins and setup; I evaluate how well Michigan's existing players will fit in their new holes.
- Craig Ross looks at the evolution of offense from the single wing to the spread.
- Michael Elkon takes a look at what actually predicts turnovers, why Michigan had two straight years of incredibly poor turnover margins, and what their prospects are for 2010.
- Jamiemac explores Michigan's re-entry into recruiting Ohio like mad.
- John Kryk surveys the history of Michigan's helmet stickers.
- Greg Dooley of MVictors recounts the story of Michigan Stadium's construction.
- And, finally, a bunch of the above others take cracks at answering the questions of the day in a Wolverine Roundtable.
It is 128 pages and $12.99. This is approximately ten cents per page, many of which have very nice pictures on them. One is even of Biff the Wolverine. If you don't purchase it, chances are you have a brain tumor which causes you to make bad decisions. Check if you have a chicken on your head and go see a doctor, but not before you purchase it. You can get it online or from bookstores across the state.
Is there still time to make the Decimated Defense pages perforated and include a postage paid envelope so we can just mail it to whoever is doing the most bitching about the last couple years?
Paid postage? What science fiction land do you live in? Email will always be free.
Unless you print it off, of course. I recommend printing it on a 2x4.
(Yes, you could beat them with the machine on which you're reading the email or on which it's stored, but I regard that as cheating.)
Not good enough. I want them to hold the evidence in their hands. They also deserve a nasty paper cut, which you can't get from an email.
Kindle?
Can't wait for that Demar Dorsey feature...
Never heard of him.
I was going to post a thread asking if and when the Maple street press was coming out and what happens........... i click on mgoblog and :) here it is
I cannot express how much I hope the cover is prophetic
If i order it now, when will it be shipped? I remember one year I ordered it and it wasn't available until three weeks later.
Johnny of RBUAS tackles Demar Dorsey, the phenomenon.
Johnny is apparently very, very fast.
I was wondering if there would be an electronic version available. PDF or epub format for the nook and many other e-readers?
Thank you.
I had my mom looking for it. She's sent it here to me in Tennessee the last two years. It's how I found Mgoblog. I was getting ready to try to figure out how to e-mail you and see what's up, but you've alleviated my fears and answered my question. thanks again. Keep up the good work.
Quit commentating in the thread and buy this book NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bought the book just now to make sure I help fund your gambling habits, jamiemac
Maple Street needs to update your bio, it says you still work at Fanhouse.
Do you have to pay the Univ royalites for the cover photo (For using the athletes, Uniform etc)?
I'm heading back to Meeechigan tomorrow for the 4th. Brian says it's available in bookstores across the state, so will I really be able to find it in any Border's, Barnes, etc.? Is it already on the shelves? Any help is appreciated.
If you're looking to buy it at a brick and mortar joint you should definitely buy it from Border's since it's an A2 based company (as opposed to Barnes and Noble). However, I don't actually know if they've got it in stock yet.
I'm not sayin it may have been me, I'm just sayin. I Had the transaction done within about 3 minutes of reading the announcement post which I read before it had a single comment.
I LOVE me them books. Can't wait to crack it open.
good job, looking forward to reading it and checking out the pics.
the Table of Contents lists the author of The Decimated Defense as Seth E. Fisher, not Misopogon. The curtain is lifted ...
If it says "Seth E. Fisher" then it's a typo.
My middle name starts with "M"
(and no, it's not 'M'ispogon or 'M'ichigan, though I have thought of changing it to that)
thx.
Other than my day job, which is publishing a magazine, I do a bit of hockey writing for USA Hockey and Michigan Hockey. Just journalist stenographer stuff that lets me see a bunch of free hockey (and the reason I don't chime in on Brian's hockey stuff even though I'm a huge Icers fan), but nothing like the depth in HTTV.
Honestly, I'm more proud of this than anything I've published in the past, which includes an interview with a President of the United States and a Senator from Massachusetts.
Thank you, publicly, to Brian for the opportunity.
you interviewed one of the non-Wolverine presidents.
I think he was from Connecticut, but he had a strange accent: Like a cross between Texas and Jimmy Carson. And kept squinting like the sun was in his eyes. I asked him if he needed a visor, and he said he had plenty of advisors already.
I think this was a great accomplishment for all Seths out there...since that includes me, I will take partial credit whenever I can. Even if I had absolutely nothing to do with it and lack the ability to even write something resembling it.
The pages of the Demar Dorsey article had better be laminated so my tears won't ruin the rest of the book.
What's with the complete lack of stories about the families of Korean girlfriends showing up announced? Sure, that might not be projecting forward to the 2010 season, but I want the hard copy of that story with more behind-the-scenes details
I actually tried to get a two-pager of that in print--the bit about watching the Miami hockey game--but the author wanted to avoid potential repercussions after his experiences made it back to Korea.
Greg from MVictors had the link up, and like an addict I clicked immediately.
I'll be in A2 this weekend, and thought I'd swing by to pick up a copy if it's there - faster than waiting for it to be shipped.
But where I can buy this fine product?
i have purchased this each year and its definitely a great read on the beach. plus it feels good to support brian et al with some extra money.

where can i find a torrent for this? Someone should take pictures of each page and put it on MgoVideo.
I just bought it for the first time. It better be good, or I'm hunting down jamiemac and Misopogon and giving them swirlies.
It looks like there's two names, but the color of the font is pretty poor to be able to see...
I've never gotten this before, and I do believe that I am going to change that as soon as it gets in stores. Thanks Brian for putting this out!
I've paid my $33 Australian to get it shipped all the way over here. Hope you appreciate that. :p
This is a MUST buy. The last two hold a prestigious place on my Michigan mantle.
I just purchased my copy - and I clicked on the Crocs banner! What have you done for Brian today?
Seriously, do it.
Can we get a straight answer...is it available at Borders yet or only online?
