TomVH: January 21st Weekend Visitors
We might as well get this post up today since the list is growing by the minute it seems. If anyone had concerns about the new coaching staff and their recruiting ability, they're probably not asking anymore. Brady Hoke seems like he's in 10 different places at once, and the buzz they've started to create in a short amount of time has been outstanding. Here's a look at the visitors list so far for this weekend. Remember this list will continue to grow, and could shrink so check back.
- Commit RB Justice Hayes (4 Star, 5'10", 175 lbs)- Justice being on campus this weekend will help with recruiting. He's been talking up Michigan to quite a few recruits now.
- DB Stefan McClure (4 Star, 5'11", 170 lbs)- Defensive back out of California. Has a good relationship with Hoke from being at SDSU. I think Michigan has a real shot with Stefan.
- DB Raymon Taylor (4 Star, 5'10", 165 lbs)- Raymon might decide to wait a little bit to commit, but I think it's safe to say he'll most likely pick Michigan.
- K Matt Wile - (6'2", 210 lbs)Here's my interview yesterday with Matt's coach. I wouldn't be surprised if Wile was a Wolverine by Tuesday.
- TE/LB Frank Clark (3 Star, 6'2", 210 lbs)- Glenville prospect that I think Michigan has a good chance with.
- OL Tony Posada (3 Star, 6'5", 315 lbs)- The coaches were out to Florida this week to see Tony, and I think this visit will be his last. He should be firm to Michigan again.
- LB Leilon Willingham (4 Star, 6'3", 230 lbs)- I spoke to Leilon's coach today, and it looks like this visit is happening. Willingham is committed to Texas A&M and was supposed to visit the Aggies this weekend. If he cancelled that trip to visit Michigan then that's a pretty strong statement.
- DB Tamani Carter (3 Star, 5'11", 172 lbs) - Michigan's newest commit is visiting.

I don't think you can understate what an accomplishment it is to get so many guys interested with two weeks left in the process. I know some people are worried about some recruits not being at the top of the talent scale, but think of what the staff can do with the 2012 class when they have a whole year to recruit, especially if they can lock up Jenkins-Stone, Richardson, Ross, and O'Brien before the season starts. They are seemingly recruiting nationally on a nearly impossible timeline, which can only bode well for future classes.
2012 is an extremely important class with the combination of Michigan producing more talent than they normally do, a need for a premier quarterback, and the need for multiple wide receivers to go along with the regular status quo that a program wants to keep going year-to-year. I think the showing Hoke and co. have shown in the last week would make any fan excited about the next year.
January 20th, 2011 at 5:44 PM ^
Supposedly the high school talent in Ohio is going to be stronger than it normally is next year too.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:04 PM ^
It is hard to believe the 180 degree turn that recruiting has taken (or at least our perception of it) in the last several days. The coaches seem to be moving heaven and earth to snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat. Whether they get everyone they want or not, they get a Big A+ for effort.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:04 PM ^
With the recent commit of Carter, what effect do you think that will have on guys like McClure, Taylor and others?
January 20th, 2011 at 8:57 PM ^
should not have any impact.Carter said he will play were ever the coaches need him to play.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:08 PM ^
to have a positive recruiting buzz going at Michigan again.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:10 PM ^
for some positive suprises over the next few weeks.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
Thanks Tom and GO BLUE!!
January 20th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
sorry that you're so busy tom, but i think that's good for us. so, a little not sorry.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:17 PM ^
Willingham looks like that Linebacker we used to get as far as size. Exciting to see this.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:22 PM ^
My days lately have consisted of hitting F5 on MGoBlog, switching tabs and hitting F5 on your Twitter page. Hopefully after NSD I can get some of my life back.
January 20th, 2011 at 3:08 PM ^
I have been on Twitter more the past 10 days, then the last 2 years. For those that don't follow Tom on Twitter, I highly reccomend it.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:40 PM ^
b/c fuck it's going to be cold. Tell Posada and McClure they'll love snowmobiling
EDIT: someone take them snowmobiling
January 20th, 2011 at 2:28 PM ^
I thought Aundrey was supposed to visit this weekend. He's still listed on scout.com as a visitor. Was this canceled?
January 20th, 2011 at 2:43 PM ^
am I going to do after National Signing Day at work?
Right now I feel like a bi-polar yo-yo as the last three years have destroyed my confidence in UM football.
I think Brandon maybe a Wunderkind. He had the ability to sell cardboard as food and now Hoke.
F5,F5,F5,F5.........
January 20th, 2011 at 2:45 PM ^
cardboard is not food??? Damn't!
January 20th, 2011 at 2:44 PM ^
"If he cancelled that [TAMU] trip to visit Michigan then that's a pretty strong statement."
Maybe. Or maybe he's just looking for a free trip and covering all his bases. Maybe he's been to College Station enough to not need another visit. I wouldn't necessarily read too much into a guy taking a trip right before signing day. Its his last chance to do this sort of thing, and, if he's 100% committed to TAMU, he's going to spend a lot of time on their campus in the future. Reassure your coaches that you're still committed and just taking the trip for fun.
That isn't to say Michigan can't wow him and get him to commit. But looking around isn't necessarily a strong statement one way or the other. (e.g. HaHa visiting many schools while committed to Alabama).
January 20th, 2011 at 2:54 PM ^
A free trip to Michigan in January? If I am a 4* LB, I would perfer to take a free trip to a Miami or a Cal at this time of year. Just sayin...
January 20th, 2011 at 4:06 PM ^
I didn't mean it as a vacation get-away. If you're a football player you may appreciate the tradition and prestige that Michigan has, so visting and being able to say "I saw Michigan" has some value.
January 20th, 2011 at 3:02 PM ^
FWIW, Blueaggie said in the 4* LB visiting thread that Willingham hasn't visited ATM yet so to cancel his first visit to visit here might mean something.
January 20th, 2011 at 4:03 PM ^
scratch my comment. I assumed, since he committed, he visited there at least once.
January 20th, 2011 at 4:23 PM ^
That's a good assumption. I thought so too. But, Blueaggie seems to know his/her stuff. Check it out in the other thread, he/she does have some good insight.
Has our newest commit Carter visited? I did not recall.
January 20th, 2011 at 8:54 PM ^
Brady Hoke is good at recuirting after all.
January 20th, 2011 at 3:52 PM ^
He's from Colorado. It's not like he's next door to A&M's campus.
January 20th, 2011 at 2:45 PM ^
And with that, I am happy that Justice Hayes is there as well!
GO BLUE
January 20th, 2011 at 2:50 PM ^
Are any of these DB prospects potential safeites? Their size seems to indicate CB, but I think our need is actually greater at S right now, right?
January 20th, 2011 at 3:00 PM ^
At least one has to be, based on the depth chart. I know there was some talk that Greg Brown could end up being a safety. Raven seems to have the size to become a safety and I know some are thinking Carter would be around safety size after a redshirt year.
If I had to guess then it would be that two of the DB commits from this class will end up at safety. That's just based on looking at the depth chart, though.
January 20th, 2011 at 8:52 PM ^
Raven he is listed at 6 foot 2 and weighs a 180 pounds according to rivals.
January 20th, 2011 at 3:06 PM ^
Tom, I was seriously concerned that you were going to be bored over the next couple weeks. I am so glad you are busy and hard at work providing the vital information to help keep this board sane.
January 20th, 2011 at 3:02 PM ^
This class could very well go from disaster to respectable in a matter of days.
January 20th, 2011 at 3:30 PM ^
What the hell, let's make this weekend really fun and add Christian Westerman to the list!
(I wish)
January 20th, 2011 at 3:50 PM ^
Westerman is announcing tomorrow and supposed to be a surprise.
January 20th, 2011 at 6:21 PM ^
Putting in the work, would be a great way to start off he season for UM if Hoke can add them to the class
January 20th, 2011 at 6:24 PM ^
Rivals says there are 8 visits this weekend, any insight on the last?
January 20th, 2011 at 7:48 PM ^
no idea, maybe flavin?
January 20th, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
After watching his tape I sure hope so!
January 20th, 2011 at 7:18 PM ^
Thanks Tom and thanks Justice. Go Blue!!
January 20th, 2011 at 7:29 PM ^
Has anyone heard if Hoke has been in touch with Zettel?
January 20th, 2011 at 8:00 PM ^
Maybe it's me just being hopeful but it sure seems like we have a lot more to be happy about since Hoke has been at the helm. These next couple weeks could be exciting!

Hi All,
Boston College Fan, but love reading this blog. Anyway, I was perusing BC's message board and a poster who a quarter of the time has great inside knowledge and the rest is just causing trouble as he hates our staff, posted the following about our top (only) QB commit Christian Suntrup.
"Hypothetical... What would you say if Suntrup visits Ann Arbor this weekend?"
With a True Soph starting at BC next year and Michigan's likely change of offensive philosophy, it would "make sense" but the kid has seemed pretty committed. I didn't see him listed on your incoming recruits this weekend, but then I see follow-up claiming there should be 8. Figured I'd see if anyone had any info. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link i wandered over and found it hilarious. So funny how many people believe he is the 8th mystery visit.
January 20th, 2011 at 10:17 PM ^
That he is visiting or coming to Michigan. He seems pretty committed to BC. His film is really impressive. Looks like Matt Ryan redux....
January 20th, 2011 at 9:06 PM ^
have to say Brady Hoke and his staff are doing a great job with only 2 weeks to go,keep hit up.GO BLUE!!!
January 20th, 2011 at 10:02 PM ^
I think that it is great that Hoke can keep these commits. With that being said those commits can get more talent to come to Michigan
January 20th, 2011 at 10:17 PM ^
Today has been a pretty good day. I thought they were a myth but they might be real.
January 20th, 2011 at 11:37 PM ^
Today was a good day. I fucked around and got a triple double.
