Before we all jump on the Hoke bandwagon...
I was doing little research and realized that SDSU only beat two teams with winning records this year and both were service academies (Air Force, Navy). The rest of SDSU's wins this past season came against teams with final records of 4-7, 2-10, 4-8, 1-11, 3-9, 3-9, and 2-11. After seeing this, my excitement from this afternoon's press conference vanished.
I still will support any man who is the coach of Michigan, but this has caused me to revert back to pre-press conference feelings of uncontrollable nervousness. That said, Go Blue!!

Alledged fans constantly cried about Rodriguez. Obviously not being a true fan for the last three years has dulled judgement about Michigan football.

Anybody who chose yesterday to be negative and hyper-critical just has no heart. I was all-in for Rich Rod and really liked the guy. But the reasons for his firing were obvious to anyone who watched the Gator Bowl. Now Hoke is our coach. If you can't jump on his bandwagon and root for the guy, well, the band-wagon is going to be happier without you. As you say, Michigan fans are thrilled about what we saw in Brady yesterday.

I will support Hoke till there is reason not to do so. But the time now is to celebrate the hire, support the team, and send good vibes that will spread to recruits.
Go Blue!

Why is it the Hoke bandwagon?
It is not like we have a choice. He is and will be the coach for the next four years for sure.
It is time to support this guy!
January 13th, 2011 at 12:20 AM ^
Cause every coach should get four years, amirite?
January 13th, 2011 at 12:34 AM ^
Show progress that matters at Michigan, get more years. Don't and recent history has shown you likely won't.

NateVolk,
Please shut the fuck up. Thanks. Your schtick is no longer welcome or necessary.

also has the same age of the new offensive scheme. thats going to be fun to watch for 3 more years. does this sound familiar, run left, run left, incomplete pass, punt.
January 13th, 2011 at 4:55 AM ^
Did you copy/paste that from Stanfod's drive charts in the orange bowl?
January 13th, 2011 at 12:45 AM ^
one game better.

People, like myself, were really hoping for a big name coach and "oh God no, please not Hoke." When all of the others dropped out we got Hoke, who we had grown to not want. My initial reaction was (verbatim from my reply to the text I got with the news, censored): "F*** f*** f*** f*** f***." After a couple hours were through, I began to realize that this was reality and that Hoke was coach. It was then that I started to cool off a little bit, and I realized that he is our coach and he deserves support. I didn't want to have another divided fan base situation like the RR hire.
Also, the fans want to go back to the "old days." We won games in the old days; they were great, don't you remember? Brady Hoke symbolizes the old days in that he coached here under Carr (won a NC) and he's a defensive guy. People are happy about that.
So any of my positive posts about Hoke are not because I fell in love with him overnight, but because I realize that he deserves some support. Also, WE KNOW HE HAS A LOSING RECORD. During the days of waiting, we've done the research and know the important statistics, like who he's beaten and who he's lost to. There is no need to keep posting them.
I'm not defending the hire, ecstatic about the hire, or calling for DB's head on a silver platter. I'm just willing to be optimistic and let the guy have his shot. I hope he does well.

had to play a role in all of our thoughts on Hoke, without any real evidence to why Hoke was a bad candidate (I'm referring to the beginning of the search).
Also, it's nice to see the former players unite around anybody, including Hoke, because I missed the show of support from them over the past few years.

1.) Get on the wagon
2.) Get off the wagon
3.) Bitch about the wagon who was fired after going 0-6 against its two most hated wagons.
January 13th, 2011 at 1:15 AM ^
I was really impressed by the press conference and by what former players and other coaches had to say about our new coach. I think this team will have an easier time transitioning than many people think. This isn't like Rich Rod coming in here and changing everything. I hope people can get behind this team and university and support it! GO BLUE!!!

Rodriguez as great an offensive mind, and a great person that I hope does well at his next gig; there wasn't much excuse for the special teams and defense getting worse week to week for 3 years. Michigan had to go in a new direction and unfortunately programs that are down usually can't get the big high profile guy. Michigan got the best they could given the state of the program.
I was hoping to get Harbaugh or Miles but its delusional to think top coaches that can get most any job they want, or in the case of Miles already at a successful program will coach Michigan in its worst state in program history.

people are reading WAY too much into w-l record. yeah, its an important metric, but unless youve got something more substantial (this is why his scheme wont work, look at this trend in his recruiting, he eats grass and has terrible clock management), its not enough to HATE the hire
speaking of recruiting, not sure if everyone knows this but hoke had tyler bray committed before tennessee snake oiled him

It's funny because there were plenty of glowing stats for RR before he came here. Did that translate to sucess on the field? Right now, I could care less about his stats. They turned out to be no indication of anything for RR and they probably won't be for BH either. I'll try to withold judgement on his coaching abilities until at least after the first few non conference games.

But before got to SDSU they were on of those teams with the losing record that wouldn't have won those games they did this year. They played well in their losses, played Missouri closer than what we probably would have, same with TCU.

The reasons I am hesitant to become a "hokeamaniac" is that I do not see any reason to think he will be succesfull. I HOPE he is very succesfull, and wins many B1Gs and MNCs, but I am not inclined to think that is the case, based on the evidence available. Hoke seems like a great individual and really supportive of Michigan, but that should not be the only prerequisite for coaching here. If he cannot succeed at non-AQ schools (wiht and against non-AQ talent) how is it everyone sees it as a forgone conclusion he will do so at Michigan? I have nothing against Hoke, but I am not excited about this hire. I have never gotten of the Michigan bandwagon, and that is why I feel I can say these things. I wanted M to succeed under Bo, then Mo, the Lloyd, then RR and now I want thm to under Hoke.
The thing I find hilarious is from ~2005 on, a majority of the fanbase was comlaining that the game had passed us by, and we needed to get rid of Lloyd, et al. We did, and the SAME poeple complained that this wasn't "Michigan Football" anymore. So we got rid of that coach too. Now we hired a Lloyd assistant, and these people are praising it as moving the program in the right direction. We are where we were in 2005 people. The last six years have been for naught. I hope everybody dumping on theose not convinced about Hoke realize this. When our ceiling is 10-2 again, I don't think I'll be able to cope with these same people complaining about how moridbund our program is. These are the folks who don't necessarily want to win every year, they want to win every year and have it be 1975.
January 13th, 2011 at 8:45 AM ^
Brady Hoke is our coach. I wanted Harbaugh as well. After listening to Brady, I believe we have the right guy. Lets get behind him, but more importantly the team. The important thing is to keep this team together during this transition, or we will be back to where we were three years ago when Rich was hired.
January 13th, 2011 at 8:51 AM ^
The program was in shambles...look at the progress.

I guess I understand your concern but let's not lose sight of the fact that Hoke was in his 2nd season and the only losses he had were, to Mizzou, who at one time was ranked #6, TCU and they only lost to them by 5 points, Utah, and BYU. I think that he will be able to take the talent that is already in place and do a lot with this team. I really think the future looks bright.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:06 AM ^
So what your saying is, he only lost to the good teams?
January 13th, 2011 at 10:49 AM ^
He is a great guy and I wish him all the best. I was very excited to see him get the job. I hope the record is a reflection of his talent level at the other schools because he was a great DL coach when he was here at Mich the first time.
