Let's see how the rest of year goes. It sounds like the coaching is a problem at Cass Tech. If these kids have athletic ability and talent but weak coaching, this may put them in a likely red-shirt situation so they can get a good year of "real" coaching by Mattison, etc.
Ohio recruits who grew up loyal OSU fans and really wanted to go there, is even if they go elsewhere now would they be brave enough to pick UM? It may be the best option for them, but the pressure from family, coaches and friends down there may be intense, so much so that they pick a MSU or ND or SEC school over UM. Do they get over the hatred they've lived with all their young lives?
Having the nads to pick UM over the rabid scrutiny from those around him would definitely earn some points from me. The kids from Ohio who pick UM tend to not be OSU lifers, for the most part. Being a lifer and then picking UM means big Cahones.
about a new owner with money and what he could possibly do to make the Pistons relevant again and lift up a down and out city.
Yes, Detroit is not a big free agent draw, but we can dream and money does talk to these guys.
The last Piston championship was a true "team" effort, but look at what is happening in the league. Boston started it with the "3 amigos" thing and what happened - championship. Miami is about to do the same thing. NY is building toward that same goal with Amari, Mello and Paul possibly. LA may have Howard and Bynum, etc. A good team effort might put up a good fight, but it's not going to win a championship in the next 5 -10 years. Thankfully Boston is getting old, so they'll probably drop out of the picture, but the haves and have nots is coming to this league.
If we sit back and dream of a team effort, which I'm normally all for, it's just not going to happen in the near future. Just giving up on trying to get these guys because we are not the best area is lame and wussing out. Go for it. Why not. Let's see what kind of sales pitch the new management can put up.
At least for the foreseeable future, we need super stars to win. That may change again, but for now it's what we need.
if he chooses UM as well, was great to see and very telling about this kid. That he would still choose to come here even if another 5" QB above him is here as well, speaks volumes about his competitiveness and drive. Extremely impressed with Shane.
With all the cat themes pics on this site, which I can never get to work, can we find a MORRIS the cat picture and photoshop a UM jersey on him. Youngsters might not remember Morris the cat from cat food commercials back in the day. Morris was ONE COOL CAT!
If other recruits who are seriously looking at UM start seeing OSU guys looking at UM, they may jump at getting their spot nailed down before and the HELLO's may start rolling.
I would watch out for someone else snaking in there (Saban, et al) now that tOSU is drowning. The others probably figured he was a lost cause and haven't hit him hard, yet. Just something to watch out for. I do believe he would come to AA if he canned OSU, but with all the snake oil salesman out there, you never know.
"recruitment for a new head coach - which is expected to include external and internal candidates - will not commence until the conclusion of the 2011-2012 season."
But, if sanctions are bad, they may give Fickle a couple years until a new, big time coach is ready, unless, of course, Fickle works magic.
Mr. Gant said that they have been hearing from more and more schools now that the Michigan offer has come through. Purdue, Nebraska, and Michigan State all came down since Michigan offered. Like his father said, I would expect a decision shortly.
Nice to see others are folliowing Hoke and Mattisons lead in recruiting candidates. Monkey see Monkey do.
not the guy for UM. The only thing I credit him for is bringing DRob here....which is one great thing, but take away DRob from the offense and we are maybe 4-8 last year at best. Denard was the only string of hope RR had to keep his job and THAT IS NOT RIGHT. You need a COMPLETE team.
From what I've read scum is using fire sale tactics to get kids to sign. They've been saying "sign today or your offer will be gone if anyone else signs up". Kids fall for that crap.
** Coach isn't telling them that, they can figure that out themselves.
They're also all over the "Cass Tech is overrated" theme as well. Wait until these kids get a couple years under Coach Mattison.
They are also mocking our new offense, based solely on the spring game, which of course was not stellar, but it's only spring.
it's turning ugly already. This was on a thread titled "How is Hoke doing it?"
"Since Hoke replaced RR every single recruit with UM and MSU offers have commited to UM!!! Yes, I know MSU will be ok, and I feel will sign a good class but 10-0 head to head is not realistic. One has to wonder if Hoke and co. may be stretching the rules a bit? "
Didn't take long to go there "stretching the rules a bit?"
If Hoke ends up dismissing Stonum permanently, what options do we have for that scholarship this year?
1. Will they still allow him to finish up school on a scholarship? It would be a shame for him not to get a UM diploma, but he did screw up, again! The medicine sucks sometimes.
2. Would he give that scholarship to a walk-on? or Are there any JUCO's out there that may be ready to jump over?
3. Or do we save it for next year since it would be available at that time anyway?
I'm hoping he gets his act together, but he's had the opportunity to rectify his first DUI. I don't think he should be kept on the team, unfortunately, because he is a good receiver.
Sorry about all the questions, I know how much you love questions here.
I'm hoping it's one of our RB's. We have a bunch of "good" guys but nobody, as of yet, that's a full blown beast. I don't recall, was Mike Hart predicted to start before he came to town or was he a surprise starter? It seemed like we didn't have a real "go to guy" at that time either which gave him the opportunity to "take the ball and run with it".
have you seen Trey Burkes videos. That kid, although not ranked as high as others is something. Looking forward to watching him and Bundridge and Biefeldt.
we have "good" receivers but not AC, Desmond, Braylon good...looking for some of those type of greats again. Those type of threats are a huge boost to helping the running game.
One thought about QB....and this is pretty far fetched...but is Rob Bolden (PSU) still looking at transferring? I realize JoePa wouldn't release him, but he was a teammate of Ross and we are looking for a QB. Waiting out a year would be fine since he would be eligible to play the same year these 2012 QBs are coming. I know he didn't have a very auspicious start at PSU but he was a starting freshman which says something. Would we even want him if he could transfer?
D for diversity. As with our investments, the more options you have the better. I think if they do this right and the kids get it down, there is no stopping this offense. Thats a big if ,though, the first year of a new system. Last year was amazing, but the good D's figured us out. Stop Denard. They had enough talent to do it. We didn't have any other options or adjustments. Mixing it up more will do wonders....I'm hoping
He may be for certain plays, but if a lot of plays are "3 yards and a cloud of dust" I think his size won't help when you're running into a pile of 300 pounders. He may be more effective in some of the spread plays they'll keep where he has room to scoot or as a slot receiver. The biggest job Borges has is finding plays to fit the talent he has which is why I think we'll have real hybrid offense this year with all sorts of different looks - which could be a real good thing since we all know, as with investing, diversity is key. The one thing I've always cringed at over the years of watching M football is the predictability. Keep the D guessing.
biased or not, maybe they are, but they certainly know the game. There was a lot of technical football talk and observations that 90% of us here are fairly clueless about.
I certainly believe and hope Denard is the starter, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities that Devin passes him up due to this being a much better fit for him. Denard is a hard worker and is going to figure this out, but I think Devin has a couple things going for him. He's taller and that allows him to "see the field" better. He is also a more accurate passer. Accuracy is hard to teach but if anyone can do it, I think Denard can. If he does, watch out. But, is it not a nice situation to have an incredible back up? I'll take it.
1. Big Will is finally going to be who we thought.
2. Coaching staff are true teachers of the game.
and the third and a little unnerving point.
3. Denard has a lot of work to do!! Thankfully it's only April. I will be watching for signs over the summer, no matter how crazy they might be, that Devin is a possible starter. I know everyone says Big 10 POY last year!!!, but that was under an offense meant for him and his mad running skills. I'm hoping he can develop the passing skills necessary to run this offense. No matter how much they coach him up, though, it's hard to teach accuracy. He has arm strength, but accuracy is almost a god-given talent that is hard to learn.
I truly hope he can make that transition, but maybe they should give Devin some reps at 1st string D to see what happens. If he still does as well as reported, than we may have a QB controversy (shoot me now).
Good teams figured us out last year. It's fairly easy when you have good talent on D to stop a "one man" show. We need as many different looks as possible. It may not be the first few games as they adjust to the new system, but incorporating new looks (Devin alone or Devin and Denard together) along with some threats from running backs, receivers would make this offense much more potent. Lets have so many options that the D has no clue what's coming or who to watch.
I'm no offensive guru, but I think if Devin is doing as well as people say, we could certainly put in some dual qb/wildcat/surprise type plays. There are endless possibilities, especially if you have both in at the same time. Imagine Devin, who I think wil be the better passer due to his height and ability to see the field better, in there with Denard by his side as a 1. RB 2. slot receiver 3. distraction 4. option play. It might be a good Red Zone play. You get all those players packed into a smaller space and it's harder for a smaller guy to see the field for passing plays. A creative coach will find useful options.
Let's sit and watch what happens. No use "what if"'ing or "woulda" "coulda" "shoulda" anymore. This is our reality and we need to just go with it.
But, I do have one final statement about RR's offense. Yes, DRob is amazing and the offense did some amazing things this year. I give props to RR for bringing DRob here, but look at how this offense did against top tier teams. When you're a "one man" offense the good teams can throw everything at that guy and slow you down and even stop you altogether. That happened last year, and that's fine, give respect to those teams for figuring it out, but where was our adjustment...there wasn't. Good coaches can have a great plan, but what separates them is when their plan is failing. How do you adjust? I just didn't see it except on the other side of the field from the opposing defensive coaches. There was not much else except Denard. A few good WR performances, but they benefitted from all the attention on Denard. There has to be more than that. One guy can't do it. Spread the wealth, draw attention elsewhere. Take the bullseye of our shoelace. I didn't see that during the year. We may have had a good quarter or two, but adjustments were made by the good teams and shut us down so we couldn't keep up with our sieve of a D. I have a feeling Denard is going to be way more effective this year. The stats may not show it and It may take a few games to gel into the new system, but I think it's going to be fun.
"Bless you boys". What a unexpected surprise this season turned out to be. Looking forward to the next few years. What impressed me so much was that these kids put in a tremendous effort to comeback from 15 down against one of the best teams in the country.
that the brackets were set up so Michigan would play Duke in the second round at the same time as this whole Fab 5 documentary/controversy was releases? Things that make you go hmmmmmm...

but I thought the picture was fun to share. Keep him away from the likes of Meyer.

makes a lot more sense now. Big, strong bodies that, with some coaching, might just fill the holes nicely until Kalis, et. al arrive.
one big TEASE!!!

GO BLUE
I don't like that Golden guy
may be failure to live up to his probation responsibilities. It may be too early to assume it was a second DUI.
Hoke may just want him to get take care of his old mess first.
fooling around with this at all. Short ropes.
The first time he was arrested, RR suspended him for just one game. Doesn't that seem pretty soft or is it typical?
"Mauk estimated that 40 to 50 Buckeyes bought cars from his dealership in the past five or six years ."
How many of us and most kids in general had money to buy a car during college years?

we may only have one spot left for a couple good recruits still out there.
