Sam Webb's Detnews recruiting article 2nd part
Good stuff on Adolphus Washington.
Would we take both Strobel and Washington? I'm not sure exactly where we're at with DL recruiting.
I doubt we take both, since I think Wormley will decide before Strobel and Washington. Given a choice I think we would take Washington since he supposedlly comes with Stanford. I don't know about our situation with Pittman, but I think I read somewhere that we lead for him.
He released his top five today according to Scout, but it's in a premium article so I'm not sure what it says.
Auburn, OSU, Michigan, MSU, Notre Dame (in no particular order)... Bama if he were to include a 6th.
We're in Pittman's top 5 I've read a couple places that we may lead for him.
and I follow recruiting pretty closely, is that we will take 1 more possibly 2 more DEs, prefereably SDE and 1 or 2 more DT. We would definetly take a top flight WR like Stanford.. kids highlight tape is ridiculous.
I just can't seem to get too excited about Washington and Stanford. They seem so unlikely to come to the good side!

His talent is exciting, However, I'm just not going to expect him to come to Michigan. I think it takes a lot to go from loving tSIO, to committing to Michigan!
From all accounts I've heard, Stanford is the one who grew up a Michigan fan. I don't know if he ever "loved" OSU as much as he was a recruiting lean at one point when we were still in a transition.
My family are all Ohio State fans, but I grew up liking Miami and Michigan. I just recently became an Ohio State fan. My family just tells me to stay humble in the process though. They just try to help me figure out if the coaches are being honest with me. They're giving me advice here and there.Doesn't sound like he has any particular attachment to Ohio State from that.
True, but he did have that ridiculously long tweet about Tressel being fired, something like: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO," or something along those lines. I think the trouble at TSIO and the doubt over his committable offer are the bigger factors than fanhood which will push him to us. Also, we only taking 1-2 receivers and our two main targets (it seems) are him and Burbridge, so we can sell him on him being our guy, our main receiver.
With Washington, we still have to battle Alabama and Miami as Greene mentions. Greene seems to know his stuff with these Ohio guys (Trieu seems to know more general info). We need to get them on campus for a visit, preferably before Washington heads south.
has a commitable OSU offer.
Let's take Wormley, Strobel, Washington and Pittman. They all seem to want us, and then we'll have 7 DEs in this class and no one else will have any.
Tactical! Sometimes you can play a little defense in recruiting too!
Get Woodson to come back in a couple years and we can run the 7-3-1 defense with Ross, RJS, and Bolden as our LBs and Woodson playing the role of both corners and both safeties.
It's the Detroit Lions Theory: we will make our D-Line so awesome that it won't matter who is in the back 7.
the Millen Lions Theory: pick nothing but head case WRs with no one to block for them, then it doesn't matter who else is in the backfield either . . .
Until I hear about any of these players actually commiting, I won't get my hopes up. Just seems like they are looking around in case the NCAA nnukes OSU, but as USC was able to do, the OSU coaches will convince them it won't hurt so bad.
The great thing about OSU's recruiting class this year (as opposed to USC's last year) is that OSU already has a handful of lower-rated filler type recruits committed. Even without the NCAA sanctions, they were expecting a small class, and if the sanctions come, it will get ugly.
USC took 31 mostly very highly rated guys in their last class before the sanctions hit. OSU will not have that luxury. They'll have an averagely-rated 15 man class before the sanctions hit, making their hole even deeper.
EDIT: OSU's 8 man class consists of 4 players that any team would want, and 4 players that almost no one in the Big Ten wanted. And a couple from the former group are rumored to be heading out (pretty please Bri'onte Dunn come to Michigan).
Michigan's current roster and 2012 commits consist of about 4 players OSU wanted.
I think it's interesting how Berk (the MSU writer) says he thinkgs "Michigan State is right there too" for Washington, but Trieu says they don't have a shot and Greene doesn't even mention Sparty!
No matter what though, it sounds like we're in the driver's seat for Washington (and hopefully Stanford, too) and that's exciting. Join the family, son!
I would think we'd be higher for Stanford than Washington. We have a pretty good looking situation for a WR - pro-style offense, a line-up of very good QBs for the entirety of his college career, and not much in terms of WR depth for the future. If Stanford is a part of this class, he'll likely be the only WR signed over 2 classes. He'd have a very good shot at being a 3-year starter after Roundtree and Stokes graduated.
Wish we had redshirted Stokes...huh.
I think Stokes only freshman game was the Delaware State blowout. Maybe he gets more playing time this year if Stonum is suspended. Stonum then comes back after his suspension and we have have him and Stokes for their senior years.
This, of course, assumes Stonum is suspended for the year as opposed to receiving a one series of downs suspension that some other colleges utilize.
Yeah but with the driving on a suspended license thing now who knows what position he will end up in (in terms of position with the team).
Right now we are in the running for 4 big name DEs from Ohio alone: Washington, Strobel, Pittman, and Wormley. Assuming that we can only take two of those, who does everyone think we would most want, and who do you think we actually would be most likely to get?
I definitely think that if one signs, another will follow, as the writing will be on the wall. Also, rumor has it that Wormley has been with us from the beginning, and that he is still the most likely to come our way. For me, the tossup would be between Washington and Pittman, both of whom have gotten some hype, but I'm not sure which I want more. Maybe I should want Pittman more, as I hear more about him liking us.
This is kind of like grade school all over. Do you like me? Um, I don't know. Maybe, but only if you like me back . . .
Ohio recruits who grew up loyal OSU fans and really wanted to go there, is even if they go elsewhere now would they be brave enough to pick UM? It may be the best option for them, but the pressure from family, coaches and friends down there may be intense, so much so that they pick a MSU or ND or SEC school over UM. Do they get over the hatred they've lived with all their young lives?
Having the nads to pick UM over the rabid scrutiny from those around him would definitely earn some points from me. The kids from Ohio who pick UM tend to not be OSU lifers, for the most part. Being a lifer and then picking UM means big Cahones.
Yes, and I like Cahones.
That's What She Said . . .
Yeah, I feel guilty now, but I did it anyway . . .
Slugbug red . . .
(no punchbacks)
Sure, they might catch some flack from some locals, but do you really think family and friends are going to stop cheering for them?
I think Wormley is ours unless we blow it...fingers crossed.
I think Washington would commit to TSIO if Stanford could commit. Everything I hear down here in Ohio tells me that. So I don't think Stanford has a committable offer, and probably never gets one. That gives us a slim opening.
I think Pittman was a Michigan lean (a very slight one) even before Tresselgate. I think we definitely have a solid shot here, though a lot of big programs are jumping after him.
I don't think Strobel is coming here, even though he keeps talking about us. Just my gut talking.
I think we definitely take two of these guys if they want to come. Wormley is likely the first to commit, and I would love to have any of the others.
...that the coaching staff sees Wormley (and/or Godin) potentially growing into a DT?
Godin yes, and if we take 4-5 DE recruits I would think that is on the coaches mind. Wormley no. There has been talk he might be a better OL prospect, but not a DT.
I would prefer Washington, Wormley, and Pittman over Strobel, but I would gladly take tthem all. However, we need to save a spot for a QB for this year
that "I don't see him going far from home..."?
can someone post a link to the first part? can't find it anywhere on the detnews site and they didn't include a link on the second part to part 1.
