Emotions Tomorrow
I'm not sure where the MGoCommunity is at, but I feel really at ease heading into tomorrow's game. The pit of the stomach worry from the last two weeks is now absent, and with 7 wins already achieved, I'm hoping to see the boys play with nothing to lose. I'd like to get a head start on Brian and submit this:
Win will cause me to: Sing the Victors and walk around the rest of the day with a smile so big, many would question my mental state.
Loss will cause me to: shrug, thank the seniors, and immediately move on to Ohio State week. I have no rational cause for my optimism heading to Columbus next weekend.
I'm interested in what the rest of you are thinking...What will a win bring to you? What will a loss induce?

I am sure a loss will cause a lock down of this forum as all the RR haters will rear their heads again.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:44 PM ^
A win will cause me to make wild and passionate love to my wife in a semi-druken post game stupor once we get back from the game.
Same with loss.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
Now that's a mature, eyes-on-the-real-prize perspective I can respect.

One year this coming New Year's eve. I'm 51, she's 40 and looks like she's 30.
Yes second time around.

Well done sir!
November 19th, 2010 at 2:08 PM ^
Anything special I should bring for your wife? Flowers, candy, lube?
(Sorry... did I just cross the line?)
November 19th, 2010 at 2:25 PM ^
Thank you Sparty. FWIW i have stopped using the term Jihad to describe the Freep at your request. Never really thought about it being offensive before you said something the other day.
November 19th, 2010 at 2:24 PM ^
The "Columbus" part of your name is showing through a bit.
November 19th, 2010 at 4:25 PM ^
The RR haters are currently satisfied with 7 wins and a bowl game, anything else is a bonus this year.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:17 PM ^
the ability of the MGoProletariat to melt down after a loss, regardless of the extenuating circumstances.
November 19th, 2010 at 4:43 PM ^
A close loss will cause me to be disappointed for the rest of the day.
If they get blown out, I will be discouraged at how far the team has to go if they want to compete for a Big 10 title next year.
A win will put a smile on my face for the rest of the week.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:18 PM ^
I think RR needed seven wins to keep his job. But if we shit the bed (eg blow out or blow big lead(s) in against UW and tOSU) seven may not be as magical.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:24 PM ^
RR's already progressed from last year. Obviously, a win over Wiscy and/or tOSU would be awesome, but I don't think anybody's questioning RR's job security at this point.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:29 PM ^
I don't think anybody's questioning RR's job security at this point
... no one except everyone in the MSM.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:55 PM ^
I'm not so sure about that. It's year three and RR really hasn't accomplished anything.
He hasn't beaten a team that finished in the Top 25. He's lost three straight years to MSU (two of them by double digits). He's lost three straight years to PSU (all of them by double digits).
I saw a quote today from Dave Brandon and he talked about the three phases of football. Two of those phases (defense and special teams) and historically bad by Michigan standards. In fact, we've just witnessed the the three worst defensive teams in the 100+ years of Michigan football.
All of this is in Year 3. I'm pretty sure that RR will be back but I really don't think that he's done anything to make that a "slam dunk" decision. That's why the next two games are so important. A win over Top 10 Wisky or (and!!!) OSU teams will be an actual accomplishment on the resume.
November 19th, 2010 at 3:30 PM ^
You shouldn't be negged for saying this. I think it's a valid point. IMO, seven wins was the minimum threshold to justify retaining RR. He probably will be retained now, but if we don't win another game, there will be plenty of skeptical fans, and justifiabily so. In the big picture, the main difference between last year and this year, so far, is that this year we haven't lost to any bad teams. That's progress, I suppose, but just haltingly so. A win over Wisconsin or OSU would turn this year into a much greater accomplishment.
November 19th, 2010 at 1:02 PM ^
You can't be serious in making that statement.
November 19th, 2010 at 3:36 PM ^
I think everyone is reading way too much into the handful of public statements Brandon has made on this subject. People actually close to him maintain that they don't know where he's going. If his mind is made up, it would make no sense to pretend otherwise. I think it's likely that in the final analysis, he'll retain RR - but it's entirely possible that he is waiting until season's end to make that call.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:31 PM ^
I would really love to see this team take care of the ball this week. 5 turnovers in the last 2 games has to stop.
A loss
- b/c of denard turnovers - will cause me to question why RR isn't encourage him to scramble more when the pass plays aren't there (and switch the ball the outside arm when running), and think about how short of a leash he will have next week vs tOSU
- in a close game, will cuase me to think about what could have been
-in a blowout will cause me to be sad for the rest of the evening, and be very scared of tosu
A win will cause me to kick myself in the ass for not spending the 5 or 600 dollars to fly into AA and watch the most important win for this program in the RR era.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:59 PM ^
But I read a scouting report and I don't remember where I read it (somewhere on this board perhaps), that Denard carries the ball almost exclusively in his left (non-throwing) hand. This can (and has) lead to fumbles, but also limits his ability to make things happen on the move, because on a drop back, he switches hands to tuck and run, and then must switch back again to throw. I hope this changes over the offseason, it could really make a difference in fewer TO's and in his ability to make defenses look even more stupid
November 19th, 2010 at 1:06 PM ^
Thanks for clarifying what you mean't by "shit the bed" in your parenthetical.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:25 PM ^
...with the bowl-qualifying record wrapped up, I feel like we are in bonus time. Anything we can get the next two weeks, I'll take it. Probably as loose as I have ever felt as a Michigan fan because normally I'm scared stiff at the idea of losing.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:26 PM ^
A win will cause me to: Get drunk, joyously.
A loss will cause me to: Get very drunk, alone.
I can rationalize it all I want, but losing will still send me into a depressed tail spin for a day or two.
November 19th, 2010 at 12:31 PM ^
A win will cause me to: Get drunk from my Bushmills Black pass out in my bed
A loss will cause me to: Get drunk from 4 Lokos and pass out in my front yard
November 19th, 2010 at 12:34 PM ^
Loss will cause me to... repeat "I expected 7-5" to myself a thousand times.
Win will cause me to... spin very fast in a circle with both middle fingers extended, hoping that the centripetal force can carry my gesture to haterz worldwide.
Well said. The dude abides
November 19th, 2010 at 12:55 PM ^
While I want the team to do well, I have another issue with this; the Rose Bowl.
See, my girlfriend is over in East Lansing attending that "school" over there. She really wanted to be in the marching band to do colorguard, but wasn't sure it would work with her schedule. She has a lot of family in California, and thought it would be cool to go to the Rose Bowl to play and see them. I convinced her not to worry about joining the band as there was no way in hell MSU would have a Big Ten championship team this year. Now, with two weeks of the season left, guess who is holding that over my head?
So yes, team wise I would absolutely love to see them win the next two games. I'd probably break something in my house if we pull off the upset in Columbus.
Losing will cause me to have much relief that my girlfriend won't kill me in my sleep over winter break.

A win: Get Denarded and then gear up for osu.
A loss: Get Denarded and then gear up for osu.

That I won't get upset if it doesn't happen tomorrow. That way I can be a liar and gullible at the same time.

I have confidence in our team. I hope the seniors come out jacked and are ready to kick some badger ass. Go blue!

A win will cause me to piss my wife off by watching every highlight (of the win), reading every article (about the win), and responding to every thread on the mgoboard (about anything).
I have nothing planned in the event of a loss because we are not going to lose, it's that simple.
November 19th, 2010 at 2:06 PM ^
I'm going to the Georgia Tech-Duke showdown so I'm recording it.
The problem is, I HAVE to wear Michigan apparel on football Saturdays... my concern is people will ruin it for me. Assuming they do:
A win= I will drink in celebration while watch the recording.
A loss = I will drink in celebration that we are still better than last year, while watching the recording.
November 19th, 2010 at 2:11 PM ^
Win will cause me to: Hold my head high and grin from ear to ear in this awful state of Ohio that I live in
Loss will cause me to: apologize again to my 4-year old daughter for my awful behavior after a loss and continually tell myself "it is just a game," when the inner being is saying "it is not just a damn game."
November 19th, 2010 at 2:19 PM ^
Whether we win or lose, I'm still going to party my ass off because I'm back in Michigan, I'm in AA with my college friends, It's my MF'ing bday Saturday, and its my first return to the Big House since graduation!! Hello luxury boxes and piped-in music.
HIDE YO KIDS, HIDE YO WIFE

Would cause me to call my buddy who's been beating down on RR all year, even after wins (UMass, Purdue, Illinois), and say "I told you so", "WOOOOOOO!!!!" and other derivatives of the aforementioned statements.
Loss would cause me to turn my phone off and work on this damn Epidemiology paper that's due before Thanksgiving.
November 19th, 2010 at 2:52 PM ^
I need this win. I have a family wedding I have to go to next weekend, which will take place an hour before The Game. For the love of God, let's get some momentum going into next week. Wish me luck.
November 19th, 2010 at 3:26 PM ^
I want to win tomorrow for sure, but like you said, at this point, what more do we have to lose? Although I'm sure if we do lose, I will be pissed off for the rest of the day.
Most importantly, I want to win tomorrow because i feel that if we do, we will have a lot of confidence going into the butthole of America the following week, especially because Wisc beat OSU pretty bad.
I'm not super nervous like I have been in recent weeks, though. Just excited.

Win: ANGAR at the UNACCEPTABLE criticism levelled at the staff this season
Loss: ANGAR at the UNACCEPTABLE coaching by the staff this season
In other words, the liveblog is probably going to kill me.

Loss: Kill Drew Sharp
