OT - New Oregon Basketball Floor
I'm sure many of you will catch this on yahoo sports but what does everyone think of the new Oregon basketball court? Tinker Hatfield (or Air Jordan design and fame) came up with the concept. Being a traditionalist, I think it's too much.

I did see that on Yahoo. Oregon= crazy mofos, but that crazy basketball floor and their crazy uniforms= attention which= recruits.

I realize that our program is associated with tradition, and I love that, but not every program uses that as its foundation. That floor looks badass, and will fit in perfectly at Oregon.

Tradition and simplicity are brands that Michigan wears well - literally and figuratively. For Oregon, a school that was miserable at football from WWII until the '90s, Nike is a fresh, cool looking brand that works for them. And yes, that floor does look badass.
November 7th, 2010 at 3:09 PM ^
Completely agreed. I love this floor for what it is and what it does not try to be.
November 7th, 2010 at 7:18 PM ^
Yep. Almost as bad as Boise's blue turf.

I know they're all about always changing, but I really like the wings on their shoulders. Hope they don't get rid of those.

You may want to review the distinction between there, their and they're.

I'm all for the avant-garde, as long as it's tasteful. This is cool, which I can't always say about Oregon's uniforms.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:17 PM ^
I like the idea. The tree silhouettes look cool, but the burnt orange-brown color has got to go. If they'd gone with green itd be awesome.

for a Slamball game to break out
November 7th, 2010 at 2:21 PM ^
It took me a second to see what it actually was. I like it though. It's definitely Oregon.
I wonder how that white 3 point line is going to stand out at the top of the arch against the white center of the floor. Are they going to change its color in that section or will it stand out better in real life?
November 7th, 2010 at 2:22 PM ^
Hmm, I just wonder where is the nike symbol.
November 7th, 2010 at 8:21 PM ^
There would be a giant ass logo right in the middle... or two half sized (equally obnoxious) ones on the sides of the court.
That is why I preferred when we were Nike.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:22 PM ^
Where are the ducks?
November 7th, 2010 at 2:25 PM ^
I like it. For Oregon. And not for Michigan.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:25 PM ^
I can't justify the inconsistency. Maybe it's because I hate anything created by Nike.
November 7th, 2010 at 3:25 PM ^
Seeing as it is Oregon, is a yellow field at Autzen Stadium far off?
November 7th, 2010 at 3:32 PM ^
Yes, but only because the field is already their other color.
November 7th, 2010 at 4:36 PM ^
Boise's field makes my eyes literally hurt when watching on a HD big screen. It's too much.
Makes me feel like when Jerry had to stay in Kramer's apartment with the Kenny Roger's Roaster's sign lighting the world up:

At this point I actively avoid buying any Nike products because some portion of any dollar spent on Nike product will wind up funding University of Oregon atheletic programs.
Yes, this is tired, but...
UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!
November 7th, 2010 at 2:26 PM ^
its way cool.
Not sure how it will look at floor level....but from up high....very unique.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
I think that's what they were going for.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:28 PM ^
Curry spewage.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:36 PM ^
Very Oregon. Aesthetically awful. These things go together these days.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:37 PM ^
What is that under the "O"? Are they sponsored by a fraternity? Pie Alpha Pie?
November 7th, 2010 at 2:41 PM ^
I thought it looked more like a pillar
November 7th, 2010 at 2:46 PM ^
It is japanese for Matt. They wanted a recognizable logo for the new arena so they went with that.
November 7th, 2010 at 4:35 PM ^
If thats true, its pretty cool. My name is Matt. I would have a whole basketball court named after me.
November 7th, 2010 at 6:23 PM ^
The Ducks used to play at McArthur Court, called "Mac Court". The new arena is named for Matthew Knight, Phil Knight's kid who died. Thus, they're calling it "Matt Court". The torii gate looking script of the "Matt" is sort of the ubiquitous logo for the arena.
November 7th, 2010 at 4:52 PM ^
There's nothing Japanese about that logo. It's just "Matt" only weird looking.
November 8th, 2010 at 11:11 AM ^
It is Japanese but resembles a Japanese torri gate. That is what happens when you just skim the article instad of read it.
November 7th, 2010 at 4:18 PM ^
mmmm... pi
November 7th, 2010 at 6:09 PM ^
Call me a geek, but they've got the 5th digit wrong. Or is it the 2th digit?
November 7th, 2010 at 6:29 PM ^
I think the "5" is backwards?
November 7th, 2010 at 5:53 PM ^
HA. "Pie". Someone's hungry.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:45 PM ^
I wonder if they'll change the color of their court for every game like they do with their football uniforms...
November 7th, 2010 at 6:09 PM ^
I would want to see a matte black court with the neon yellow O and boundary lines. It would be like an asphalt court, but not really.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:50 PM ^
as a wallpaper, where you can see the whole picture from overhead. I would imagine that on the floor itself or inside the arena it might just look like chaos.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:52 PM ^
Not only is it ugly but makes the lines difficult to see (esp. the half court and top of the three pt. line). Refs already have a difficult job, adding lines with little color diference than the court only makes that job harder.
November 7th, 2010 at 2:55 PM ^
The half court line is *barely* visible on the imbedded graphic, but I can't see it AT ALL on this actual photograph....is it just me, or is there seriously no half court line??
November 7th, 2010 at 4:27 PM ^
I think they havent painted it on yet. They have to have a line there right?
Seeing it in a picture, its actually not as bad as the graphic at the start of the thread. Wouldve liked it more if they toned down the tree stuff to stop at the out of bounds or just past it. The O and the Japanese writing below it are cool though, that will sell a lot of tshirts.
November 7th, 2010 at 3:20 PM ^
I think it's ugly. But Oregon likes ugly. Their football uniforms were proof of that. The basketball court? That's right up with the uniforms.
November 7th, 2010 at 3:31 PM ^
Remember this when you're buying anything Nike. A part of those proceeds are going to the Oregon program.
Where was this program 10 years ago? No where.
Nike cash infusion? Sky's the limit..
Don't fund Oregon by buying Nike.
