Floyd done for season -- must be RR's fault
And the Angry Michigan Secondary-Hating God is back.
RR said at his press conference today that Floyd was done for the season. "He got rolled up. It's one of those freak things that happen...we're pretty young in the secondary -- we're getting younger." Apparently it happened in practice. Courtney Avery will start in Floyd's place.
I know people get tired of the decimated defense theme. They want someone to pay for the poor performance on the field. But injuries do matter. They matter a lot.
I am bracing for the fan meltdown as we go (at best) 1-3 to finish the conference slate. Can we even beat Purdue?

We've had some real useless threads lately.
Not this one though.

I see what you did there.

In my defense, this post was a lot different when I first replied.

I have no idea what you did there.

Is Floyd really done for the year?
EDIT: afraid so

Injuries do matter a lot.
Bad news....

"Your available non-freshman cornerback on the roster is James Rogers."
The saddest sentence Brian has ever written
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:14 PM ^
I have never witnessed anything like this happening to a team I care about. We have a Fifth year senior wr/cb/ath/bnchwrmr and then true freshman in our cb 2 deep. Then true freshman safeties with a former walkon (albiet gritty stud). Holy injuries-transfers-crimes-failtoqualify-leavinfortheprosearly Batman!

Thank you sir. Ya know I thought that my kitten holding a sniper rifle avatar could not be beat. Now that I have this picture I know I was wrong.

I can't recall such a rash of injuries to one position group in all my years of following Michigan football. Some witch in a backwoods hollow back in West Virginia must have put a hex on RR.
J.T. Turner is really a dumbshit. He could be playing on Saturday if he'd just been a tiny bit more mature.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:36 PM ^
You can substitute "Rich Rodriguez" in for J.T. Turner. I don't think either side really thought about the implications of Turner getting thrown off the team in August. Both sides lost.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:41 PM ^
I hadn't heard that so maybe I was in an MGoVacuum. I'm not interested in being a win-at-all-costs type of program so I'm curious as to why he was thrown off the team, if that's the case.
November 3rd, 2010 at 2:57 PM ^
Turner did not show up to many summer workouts. Had a bad attitude. Was in terrible shape. He was one of the guys that lost his wings during fall camp.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:03 PM ^
He wasn't thrown off, he transferred on his own accord. Unless I'm completely missing something, but I don't think I am; he was low on the depth chart due to being out-of-shape, and rather than work his way back, he transferred, right?
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:39 PM ^
If Turner had stayed he'd have torn his ACL tripping over a squirrel or lost a finger in a blender or some other such freakish happening would have prevented him from contributing. Just have to grin and bear it, I suppose.

I've been waiting for somone (outside of our fan base, that is) to blame Barwis.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:18 PM ^
Start him at CB, watch him intercept passes and return them for TD's on his way to his first Heisman.
/S...kind of.

Might as well put Tate back there and provide some laughable moments. He does tackle well after he throws his picks.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:28 PM ^
Cause that would really hit the spot right about now.

Maybe I should make some other predictions:
Any news from Michigan going 4-0 the rest of the year?
Any news from the Rose Bowl on taking Michigan this year?
Any news from the Heisman voters on Denard winning?
Any news from lottery folks on me winning?
Any news on a new defensive coordinator?
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:32 PM ^
it has to be. Soon I will wake up the Sunday after we beat Indiana, sure a little hungover, but just pumped about the showdown with MSU.

Why does god hates us
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:39 PM ^
Because we can't capitalize nor conjugate.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
So clever.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:38 PM ^
This is just more motivation for Denard to score every time he touches the ball.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:43 PM ^
We've managed to go 1-3 in the Big Ten with only 1 injury in our secondary while Penn State's 3rd string walk-on QB tore us apart.
I'm sorry if I don't buy the decimated defense meme as the sole cause of our problems on defense.
I don't mean to turn this into that sort of thread, but the OP's attempt to go "See! We're totally fated to be cosmically screwed! How dare anyone think someone could win given our predicament" is a little tired. I'm definitely more to the "Let's make a change" side of the debate than Brian, but I try to look at things logically as they pertain to the future only. Penn State's win with a decimated offense (See: McGloin, OL) has made me logically conclude that Penn State was able to overcome inexperience and injuries and still put together a solid Big Ten win. Michigan is on year 3 and still hasn't done that (Wisconsin aside).
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:51 PM ^
Penn State was able to overcome inexperience and injuries and still put together a solid Big Ten win.
This will probably ruffle some feathers, but, Michigan can hardly be considered a "solid" Big Ten win right now. Not for 3 years, really.
EDIT: a win over Michigan can hardly be considered solid rather...
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
There are numerous causes. An encyclopedia of causes.
But injuries are indeed a part. And not just "1 injury in our secondary." Certainly not, if you count Troy Woolfolk, Jared Van Slyke and Carvin Johnson.
Nor, if you count, as I think we must, the nagging injury to one of our most important defenders, Mike Martin.
These are injuries that aren't merely numbers -- every team deals with injuries -- these are injuries where we can least afford it, with a defense that, as you rightly suggest, has so many additional problems. These injuries are devastation layered upon devastation. That, combined with a sad lack of depth, are unprecedented in my decades-long observation of Michigan football.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:05 PM ^
Just something to keep in mind.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:51 PM ^
Sure, two injuries hurt, but why is our team not better prepared for them? Why didn't RR ensure we had a bit more depth at least? Why recruit players that can't get in, get kicked out (Boubacar) or have attitude problems and decide to transfer out? These are things that are RR fault, in addition to the terrible defensive play calling and lack of development.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:43 PM ^
Boubacar Cissoko? Just through the end of the month; that's all.
November 3rd, 2010 at 3:41 PM ^
Terrific, I'm going to remember that one.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:49 PM ^
I do feel bad for him. If this was last year no one would be blaming him for any of this, but its year 3 so he gets the blame for just about everything. Rightfully so or not. Just win. Just win for crying out loud!
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:53 PM ^
Eh... he's been getting the blame for just about everything since the beginning. I"m not implying that a portion wasn't his fault, but it's just been relentless attacks since the beginning.
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:58 PM ^
I was just talking about the defensive injuries and young secondary thing. I'm pretty sure everyone would have given him a lot more of a pass on this last year...right?
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
They could make another Final Destination based strictly on the Michigan secondary
