Would you like to see MSU go undefeated, then watch BSU v TCU in the MNC game?
I would.
Most college football fans are extremely dissatisfied with the BCS in its current state. (Derp.) Many of us thought that if a seemingly worthy undefeated team were to be robbed of a chance to play for the MNC, the uproar and the outrage and the umbrage would be sufficient to force some sort of change to the system.
Well, it's happened, a few times, most recently (IMO) to the Boise State Boyzies, who went on to throttle the Sooners in 2007, in spite of the unfairness of it all.
I, for one, have been rooting for a TCU/BSU matchup in the MNC since about week 3 (assuming Michigan would fall just short). It never occurred to me to actually want to see the Spartans go undefeated. Until about a week ago.
And with a USC victory over Oregon next week, a loss for Alabama at LSU next week, and a loss for Auburn either at 'Bama or in the SEC Championship game, the door is opening wide for the Spartans to run out on the field on January 10, 2011 in Glendale, AZ.
Except that the Boyz and the Texas Christians will already be occupying that field.
How sweet would it be for MSU to be the team that gets so royally screwed by the BCS, a screwing so dramatic that changes finally occur as a result?
Even better, an Iowa loss to MSU (about the only game the Spartans are at all doubtful to win) makes it more possible that Michigan finishes #2 in the conference.
So, what say you? Am I the only Michigan fan so sick and twisted as to take enormous pleasure--nay, glee--in the prospect of watching undefeated Michigan State watch the National Championship game from the comfort of their couches?
October 24th, 2010 at 10:50 AM ^
and then agreed and plus'd you. That game would be the first MNC game that I would not even turn on the TV for. Yuck. I don't like the BCS either, but that game should it happen, ought to be retitled the "BCS Championship Poinsettia Bowl."
October 24th, 2010 at 12:28 AM ^
Michigan possibly finishing in second place in the Big Ten?
The only thing that matters to me about MSU is that they completely OWN Michigan right now. I couldn't care less if they go undefeated, or play (and win) the BCS title game at this point.
They are bitch slapping Michigan--anything else they do is gravy for them.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:34 AM ^
I couldn't care less if they go undefeated, or play (and win) the BCS title game at this point.
Obsession.
Sparty personified.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:55 AM ^
Yeah, just as their play on the field finally elevates to the point where they might surpass the whole "little brother" thing, their fans still manage to embody the essence of what being little brother is all about.
Also, the little sister thing was stupid, derivative and, ultimately, nonsensical. If it was anybody other than Sparty they would have at least realized that big sister would have made more sense.
October 24th, 2010 at 4:45 PM ^
Does that make Michigan the older sister who used to be a good athlete, but has gotten a little older, settled down and popped out a few kids? Furthermore, now all she does is tell stories about how great she used to be?
October 24th, 2010 at 8:19 AM ^
Sparty Personified? So what does that make this thread?
Yes, one Sparty made a stupid comment. I couldn't care less that he did, because that's not how most Sparty fans feel right now.
But get down off your high snarky horse, and realize that you're commenting in a thread that includes many more stupid M fan comments. How about you just worry about Michigan football beating PSU.
October 24th, 2010 at 9:54 AM ^
"How about you just worry about Michigan football beating PSU"
Coming from the State fan on the Michigan blog this loses some of its steam.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:28 AM ^
I want to see MSU lose to Iowa.
Next question...
October 24th, 2010 at 12:43 AM ^
An undefeated Sparty is one of my seven circles of hell.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:29 AM ^
This was actually painful to read. The Boyzies? Ugh. You ruined my Six Zero rivalry week high.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:32 AM ^
1st choice would be to not talk about this or make a thread about it.
2nd choice would be to see them lose to Iowa this week and we can forget all this B.S.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:35 AM ^
Why? So we can hear Spartan fans talk about their perfect season and how they got "screwed", endlessly, for the next 50 years??? No thanks. I'd much prefer that a team plays them without fumbling at the goal line or giving up a long first down on a fake punt.
October 24th, 2010 at 3:12 AM ^
Fuck listening to sparty whining about something else.
October 24th, 2010 at 8:46 AM ^
at this point, im hoping they lose to iowa. maybe another big10 team too just so they dont win the big10, then theyll be 10-2, go to the cap one maybe? then possibly lose by 40 to whatever SEC west team out of auburn, lsu, and arkansas doesnt get into the BCS
October 24th, 2010 at 12:48 PM ^
This is of course after half their team gets arrested again before the bowl game, but it won't have anything to do with St. Dantonio and his culture of disipline.
October 24th, 2010 at 1:04 PM ^
Actually, I believe ABC coined a new term last week when referring to Dantonio. A Spartan made a dumb play and the announcers expressed their shock given that Dantonio is "the King of Discipline". I threw up in my mouth. Yesterday, they said Rucker was suspended for a "DUI" without any mention of the fact that it wasn't just the DUi, it was a probation violation and he's "suspended" because he's going to jail. The "King of Discipline" would have won the Fulmer Cup by a landslide except that his team's crimes took place in season.
Interesting to note that against Illinois, 2/3 of MSU's receiving yards (and 21 of their points) were credited to convicted violent criminals.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:36 AM ^
Does the "M" stand for in MNC? I've never seen this abbreviation before.
Oh, yeah...no I would no like to see that. Even if that happens and State wins their bowl game they have a claim to the national title. Thanks for making me use those words in the same sentence. Now I can go stab myself.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:56 AM ^
Mythical
October 24th, 2010 at 1:34 AM ^
Thanks, i get it now.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:36 AM ^
October 24th, 2010 at 12:36 AM ^
I wouldn't call winning on a series of trick plays in double OT to be "throttling", but that's just me.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:38 AM ^
I'm not getting those 30 seconds of reading back.
I speculate that speculation about speculating will be speculative. As for the Sparty, I hope they lose on a weekly basis, the end.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:48 AM ^
You're from Canada, so it took you at least a minute to read that.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:50 AM ^
It was a metric minute.
October 24th, 2010 at 1:52 AM ^
Which is 1.6 real minutes.....(Props to Bob and Doug MacKenzie for that)...
October 24th, 2010 at 12:39 AM ^
they go undefeated and then get gang sexed by Oregon.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:40 AM ^
Nah...
October 24th, 2010 at 12:41 AM ^
I would rather see Al Queda go to the National Championship over MSU
October 24th, 2010 at 12:41 AM ^
Or how about they win out and watch oregon play Boise for the NC. While they go to the Rose Bowl to play TCU, and lose by 40. That would make me laugh.
October 24th, 2010 at 3:13 AM ^
This sounds good.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:58 AM ^
Boise State throttled Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl? I wouldn't call a tightly contested game that went to OT and ended with the victor pulling a fantastic trick play two-point conversion a throttling. That's just me though.
October 24th, 2010 at 1:53 AM ^
I would call it a throttling when all the punditry was saying that Boise State had no business being there.
October 24th, 2010 at 11:41 AM ^
I guess your definition of throttling and the English language's definition of throttling are different then.
October 24th, 2010 at 3:01 AM ^
To be fair, BSU had a pretty comfortable lead until OU rallied in the fourth quarter.
October 24th, 2010 at 11:25 AM ^
That is very true, but OU scored 25 unanswered points starting with around 5 minutes left in the third quarter. Boise State's only three score lead of the day lasted all of about 4 minutes.
October 24th, 2010 at 1:07 AM ^
I almost lost my lunch twice during the NW game today. First when they gave up that stupid fake punt and second, when Cunningham caught that tipped pass in the end zone. NW gave that game away. Makes me sick to see them win. I'm glad Iowa lost today because I'm hoping they come back next week pissed off and pimp smack little brother.
October 24th, 2010 at 1:22 AM ^
No. Just no.
October 24th, 2010 at 11:39 AM ^
October 24th, 2010 at 1:22 AM ^
And, it is a hilarious idea.
October 24th, 2010 at 1:24 AM ^
Just by reading the title... no way do I want MSU to play for the NC.. there is no scenario... I rather see the entire NCAA cancel the NC game than watch MSU play in it
October 24th, 2010 at 1:32 AM ^
Sparty goes 8-4, UM goes 10-2 and Sparty goes to the Gator Bowl and gets their asses kicked by Vanderbilt, who hangs 50 on 'em.
October 24th, 2010 at 1:37 AM ^
24 hours from now, this thread will have over 200 replies, a third of them by MSU trolls and most of the rest by UM fans who won't stop arguing with them with a simple negging will suffice.
I think we've had enough Sparty-related discussion for awhile.
October 24th, 2010 at 2:03 AM ^
October 24th, 2010 at 2:44 AM ^
Fail on try 1 apparently
October 24th, 2010 at 2:43 AM ^
BSU - TCU has been done. All that would do is magnify the "M" in MNC. Although if that was a faster track to a playoff, I'm all in right now!
October 24th, 2010 at 3:07 AM ^
Personally, I would rather not see Sparty go undefeated, and I especially would rather not see Sparty go undefeated and get screwed out of a spot in the title game, forcing us to hear about it from their idiot fans for the rest of eternity.
Having said that, having an unhealthy obsession with Sparty is very Sparty-like and ultimately unbecoming of a Michigan Man.
October 24th, 2010 at 4:03 AM ^
I want to see Boise play someone that isn't TCU.... the Fiesta Bowl was a cop-out by the BCS last year.
