i agree with you, section 1, in your earlier post, i just want to clarify so we can lay it to rest.

...another conspiracy theory.
/Or not?
October 12th, 2010 at 2:28 PM ^
Let's see, the DA's office did not file charges against a couple of MSU basketball players who raped a girl, so... perhaps they fudged the date on Chris L Rucker's police report to make Dantonio look like he reacted instantaneously?
No?

I'm ASKING QUESTIONS!
October 12th, 2010 at 2:36 PM ^
Damn it, thats what happens when I take my tin foil hat off, these ideas never even occur to me.
October 12th, 2010 at 7:51 PM ^
Of course the whole point is that, based on Dantonio's track record, it doesn't matter when the infraction occurred, because the suspension would not have been until after the game either way. Had it been Thursday or Friday before the game, does anybody think justice would have been so swift?
Actually, that gives me another conspiracy theory. They want to get Rucker's suspension out of the way ASAP so he can be back for NW and Iowa. Yeah, that's the ticket.
October 13th, 2010 at 12:27 PM ^
I am a junior at UofM and bleed Maze and Blue, but this post and every reply is the embodiement of why nobody likes UofM football anymore. We are one of the most hated programs in the nation, and it's because all of you think our program is something it's not anymore. I love tailgating and watching games in the big house, but we just don't have the program we used to. MSU came in and beat us, bad, now all of you are coming up with excuses for it? If you just took loss rather than crying about conspiracy theories maybe we could get some respect back.
October 13th, 2010 at 1:23 PM ^
It is my understanding that U-M football was well and truly hated even when we were good. It didn't start because we got bad and fans refused to get real about it.
October 13th, 2010 at 1:28 PM ^
considering you're a 2010 graduate of MSU. must be that weird dual enrollment option they offer between MSU and UM.
so much fail.
October 13th, 2010 at 2:01 PM ^
That's short for, "shut the fuck up," in case you needed any help with that.
I raised the question, on Tuesday at about 11:45 am, about when Dantonio's press conference would occur that day. I had hoped to see it live. I wanted to see how the press handled the Rucker story.
There was one particular question that I wanted asked: When did the Rucker "team rules violation" occur? The reason I wanted that question asked, was because I wanted to expose Dantonio if indeed Rucker's violation occurrred before the Michigan game, but the suspension was not announced until after.
I did not know what the story was. I just wanted the question asked.
My thread, about the Dantonio press conference, went online just before the press conference took place. I never did get an answer about the presser, but the substantive answer came about two hours after I asked the question. At about 1:45, Shannon Shelton posted her story about Rucker to the online edition of the Free Press. The story was out -- Rucker had gotten busted after the Michigan game. That news immediately led to this thread, in which I think the OP here did a perfectly fair and adequate job of explaining the new thread.
In all of that, I went out of my way to say that I didn't care about Rucker, or what happened to him. I said nothing about the game itself. I didn't complain about Rucker, or how he played. I made no excuses for Michigan.
I did say that I'd be very happy to give Dantonio's repsectability a kick in the nuts if I had a legitimate opportunity to do so. This, it turns out, is not such an opportunity. But we did not know that, at 11:00 am yesterday. When I asked.
I'd still be happy to give Dantonio's repsectability a kick in the nuts if there's a legitimate opportunity. I hope there is.
Now, Sport, here's something you ought to know. Everybody in the Big Ten hates Michigan. They all hate us, and not only that; they all hate us more than a-n-y-b-o-d-y in the Conference. We are the biggest game on just about everybody's schedule. Opposing fans will tell you that beating Michigan is, most things being equal, is the biggest thing that could happen to their campus in any given year. It's been that way for about 50 years, or more. And Mark Dantonio's hatred of Michigan may be pathological.
So get used to it. They. All. Hate. Us. No matter what we do or say.
Even when somebody likes me gives somebody like you a better answer than you deserved in the first place.
October 13th, 2010 at 2:42 PM ^
he's a Sparty
October 13th, 2010 at 3:52 PM ^
...what exactly? That you, and most everyone in this thread, jumped all over a failed conspiracy theory that Dantonio did some fancy roster maneuvering in prep for the UM game? Shocker. And who is obsessed?
Why don't you ask the most relevant question? Should Rucker now be off the team?
October 13th, 2010 at 4:34 PM ^
You're the one on the Michigan boards.
October 13th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
To quote some other poster whose handle I can't remember: "WE ARE NOT NOTRE DAME!" I think we might have a new era of dynasty brewing once the birth pangs are finally done, but we got spanked fair and square this year. Suck it up and get your "Big Sister" signs ready for next year.
October 12th, 2010 at 2:15 PM ^
But every time I see one of the Chris Ruckers mentioned, I picture the guy from Hootie standing over Deebo informing him that he had been knocked the F out.
October 12th, 2010 at 2:22 PM ^
(Chris Tucker + Darius Rucker) / 2 = Chris Rucker?
October 12th, 2010 at 2:20 PM ^
If Dantonio has shown us anything, it's his willingness to forgive his players so that he can win games. he doesn't care about personal character or teaching them anything.
October 12th, 2010 at 2:23 PM ^
I'm completely against drinking and driving, but a 1-game suspension for doing it is par for the course.
October 12th, 2010 at 2:28 PM ^
Pretty much. Stonum only got a game for his I think. Although this isn't Rucker's first screw up so who knows.
October 12th, 2010 at 2:30 PM ^
he's on probation from last year's incident
October 12th, 2010 at 3:12 PM ^
Stonum had a probation violation this summer that resulted in 3 day in jail but was not suspended again. I think that Dantonio's track record on discipline has been lousy but in this case one game doesn't seem that unreasonable.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:27 PM ^
though that appeared to be failing to complete required tasks, not "committing another crime." Dantonio has said plainly there would be no second chances for any Rather Hall participants.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:43 PM ^
Luckily, for them, Dantanio never took the class "Counting to 2" at MSU.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:51 PM ^
You have to pay extra for that one because they have to borrow a prof from a different school.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:56 PM ^
No one takes it because it's a 100 level course and they can't count that high yet.
October 12th, 2010 at 6:23 PM ^
I did not know that Dantonio had said there would be no second chances, in that case he should be dismissed.
October 12th, 2010 at 7:51 PM ^
i remember him saying something along those lines - the RCMB has repeated it as much
this portion is a bit interesting though
"We talked about the law, talked about our players' rights, talked about consequences," Dantonio said. "When you make a decision, it's not a quick fix judiciously. Our players need to understand that. It's not over and done with when you do make a mistake.
"We're just trying to educate and be proactive, and I think it draws our team together."
October 12th, 2010 at 2:23 PM ^
Maybe sobriety is the mistake our defense is making.
October 12th, 2010 at 2:23 PM ^
The timing on the suspension was definitely enough to raise eyebrows, and the question drew the ire of a few Sparty fans on the forum. This ends the speculation.
October 12th, 2010 at 2:24 PM ^
We only talk about players that play for Michigan
October 12th, 2010 at 2:38 PM ^
It has to suck to not have an upstanding professional coach to cite when conversations veer the way of crazy, one of the perks of Michigan's long football coaching traditions.
October 12th, 2010 at 3:00 PM ^
No question, Jim.
October 12th, 2010 at 2:31 PM ^
Didn't Glenn Winston go down immediately after the UM game? I want to say something happened shortly after 2008 too...
October 12th, 2010 at 2:45 PM ^
I'm certainly not going to harp on it any more. Like I said, I didn't care about Rucker. I don't remember starting a thread, or even saying much, about Rather Hall. I don't care what Dantonio does with him.
I just wanted the question asked, and it sounds like it got asked.
Funny thing is, it appears that the story broke at almost exactly the same moment I was asking, "When is Dantonio's presser?"
October 12th, 2010 at 2:47 PM ^
Now that the focus is supposed to be on Iowa, here's another question that needs to be asked:
How can you be sure that Iowa's defensive coordinator didn't have his foot amputated in order to gain sympathy from the national media? Was this a stunt designed to give his team an emotional boost?
Maybe he had the one cut off so he could kick more ass with his other foot.
We need you on this case now, bro!
October 12th, 2010 at 3:05 PM ^
actually, i googled rucker's name after reading your post, and it came up. i was going to respond to your OP, but i figured id start a new thread to ensure everyone saw it.
October 12th, 2010 at 2:55 PM ^
Saint Mark ,or how he is labeled by the media, the man of integrity bringing structure and dicipline to the program. The facts don't back this up his team leads the Big 10 in penalties, personal fouls, prosecutions, and convictions. Starters remain non-starters may be removed to teach others a lesson, which it does in fact work, the lesson is if you are going to act criminal make sure you are starting. Rucker, Dell,Cunningham, and others would have been removed from the teams on all other Big10 programs. It is one thing to be at a party and tempers flare a fight breaks out gets broken up and lessons are learned, but if you round up ski-masks to hide your face get some bats for weapons it has gone beyond lost tempers to premeditated assault. MSU is the only school they get a pass. And it shows what do Rison Inghram Rogers and Burriss have in common. Good players bad people. We get press for 30 hrs over two years extended practice(,you dirty players.) Why doesnt I writer just look at the numbers to back up the claim that Dantonio is a Saint. Lazy reporting

There were no skimasks, bats, nor beaten women, but you can keep perpetuating that lie if it makes you sleep better at night.

http://www.statenews.com/index.php/article/2009/11/police_mum_regarding_rather_hall_altercation
This article states the name of a MSU student who was taken to the hospital with injuries and he states that some in the group had ski masks. It does not specify if any of the football players were the ski mask wearers. Nonetheless, the point is that players should not be given passes after being involved in such activities, whether disguised or not, or with or without weapons.
October 12th, 2010 at 5:35 PM ^
Asked if women were struck in the incident, an initial claim made by witnesses in a Nov. 24 report in The State News, Dunlap said: "I won't comment on who individually was struck."
how does this disprove that women were hit?
"Only one individual was wearing anything that you could remotely say was similar to a ski mask," he said, "and it was an open-face mask. ... When I think of a ski mask, I think of the two holes cut out for the eyes, and that's not what this was."
he has a different definition. or he could be wrong. who freaking cares?
MSU fans keep repeating this mantra no women were hit and only frat guys were hit. yet the initial report, from eye-witnesses, repeated that women were shoved/knocked aside in different accounts. were charges filed for it? no. did it likely happen? yes.

IIRC, Chris L Rucker was at the infamous "pot luck" supper. Don't know if he was ever charged. I also remember reading quotes in the Freep from his high school coach about how he was a great kid, and never caused any trouble.
Trouble, as we all know, is a relative state of being.
October 12th, 2010 at 4:01 PM ^
Can you verify the source from where the whole "ski mask" part of the story appears? I haven't seen it on any newsworthy site that mentions there were ski-masks involved. Not saying that the ski-mask detail legitimizes anything, but it appears that seems to be a major part of the story on this board.
Please enlighten
October 12th, 2010 at 4:13 PM ^
Well, it's been almost a year, so Det News and the Freep have taken their stories down, but one of the links in this post still works.

I would take anything Brent Mitchell has to say with a truck load of salt. That's like asking Osama what he thinks of Midwestern culture and taking his word for it. I remember reading after those first few initial articles that the ski mask thing was overblown and the video showed guys in hoods and baseball caps. Pretty typical of 18-22 year old guys.
October 12th, 2010 at 5:14 PM ^
I was just editing my post to have people stop negging your friend because there were reports that the ski masks never existed. One was from Dell Jr. and Cunningham via Dell Sr., but they had already lied once, so I'm not sure that counts as a credible source. The other reports that I saw mentioned that the video didn't have ski masks on it, but that video was never released, and I never saw any quotes about the video attributed to anyone.
Your opinions of the guy hold as much weight on the internet as any of the reporters'.
Regardless of how you feel about the validity of the information in the links that I provided, I was asked to provide links to credible sources of information that started the ski mask meme. That's what I did.

I doubt the whole thing will ever be put to rest. It'll be kind of like "Al Gore invented the internet". Some will realize the truth, some won't. Everyone will still use it as a joke.

Driving a 2002 Oldsmobile....man, I had an eight-year-old Olds in college, too. I guess we can be pretty sure he's not getting the Reggie Bush/Marvin Austin Honorary Scholarship.
