We are staying in Highland…

We are staying in Highland Park and bought grandstand tickets at Colorado and Garfield. Do we need to show up extra early or can we schedule ourselves to arrive at 8?

We don't have a car but we could uber. Google says 9-18 minutes driving but I have heard about the traffic being bad so another option would be to walk to the metro and take the metro to Memorial Park. I guess what I'm trying to understand is whether we can just take the metro and walk to our seats or whether we should anticipate insane lines to get anywhere, even with grandstand seating.

Once the parade is over--is it pretty easy to get to the Rose Bowl and tailgating area? If the parade is done around 10 or 10:30, that gives us a solid couple of hours before we have to go to the stadium. If we can't get a shuttle or something, I don't think two miles would be too bad to walk.

Well shit, is that 906 Greenwood? I lived there in 2010-11. Wonderful, noble house.

I would like to suggest a…

I would like to suggest a sport-by-sport look at Michigan's nonrevenue sports from a high level. Think of these questions: what is the program's history like? were there any past eras that really stood out? who are the program's best players ever? what is the current state of the program?

Your average visitor to this site can answer those questions for football and maybe even men's hoops, hockey, and softball, but that still leaves about 20 sports flying under the radar.

I know that most of us will never attend a water polo match, but I think the average MGoBlog reader is serious enough about Michigan that they're a little curious about other sports and would be willing to read a page or two getting a download of the state of the water polo program. And that's especially true if it's well-written and put together by someone who really cares about that particular sport.

Me and a coworker got the same mystery mid-January illness except I'm in metro Detroit. I had gotten a flu shot beforehand but it knocked me on my ass for like a week and was really bad. My coworker went to a doctor and was told that it wasn't the flu and was some sort of general upper respiratory infection.

I seriously wonder if that was it but I don't know if there's any way to know for sure.

I'll be around with a buddy but we don't have tailgate plans or anything and will probably just go to a bar.

Saturday was the first game…

Saturday was the first game in a long time where I listened to the radio broadcast for the majority of the broadcast on the radio instead of live or on TV. I couldn't agree with you more, Brandy is such a legend from the perspective of the program but the calls were driving me crazy.

"Third and goal...Stanley drops back...they're throwing to Martin...on a fade route...working against Thomas...it is....Incomplete!"

Just tell me what happened, Jim!

Up until about a week about I thought that Arriola was a late-20s guy who just showed up for a few games in qualifying and would probably never be seen in a USMNT jersey again. Now that it turns out that he's only 23, I'm prepping myself for a Zusi or Beasley-style career where he does his grit thing at wing or fullback for the next two cycles.

Doesn't mean anything if

Doesn't mean anything if there isn't actual policy change. If he gets a handpicked successor like Kathy Carter it's same song, different name.

Honestly--we stayed in Ybor

Honestly--we stayed in Ybor for the 12/13 Outback Bowl and everybody we talked to mentioned that it was kind of scary but we had a blast and never had anything bad happen. We were early/mid 20s then so I can understand if older people don't want to stay in the crazy nightlife district but we never had an issue and loved it.

We're going to be down in Redington Shores. I know the area pretty well and we usually uber to St Pete for going out to bars. Is there a good bar scene in Clearwater/Clearwater Beach? I have drivne through in daytime but haven't seen anything that looks like a bar scene.

906!!!

If the Big Ten is left out of

If the Big Ten is left out of the playoff they will probably get three teams in NY6 bowls. Especially if the SEC puts two teams in.

When did they say that?

I think Iowa already put the Music City Bowl on their schedule, and then took it off once people noticed. But being wrong about that doesn't mean that he's wrong about the Outback Bowl, especially considering that his twitter bio says he's based in Tampa.

My parents do the snowbird

My parents do the snowbird thing down in Redington Shores so I'm down there with some regularity. What are the good bars in Clearwater Beach? We usually do St Pete and while I've driven through Clearwater Beach I have never found the bar scene there.

I'll be there. Hoping to find a good place to watch the USMNT in the Hex the night before. Not sure about tailgating, we have heard that the apartment complex we are AirBnb'ing at has people tailgating at it but I might prefer going to a more populated lot.

How about the "no liquor at university lots" rule, though? That's an obstacle.

I agree with each of your

I agree with each of your points but don't think this development actually accomplishes any of them.

1. When the executive board of the organization is hand-picked by the AD (as is the case here), the AD is the one governing the students.

2. The student advisory committee was already formed to give students a voice in that manner. This isn't the section creating the "voice", this is the "voice" creating the section with the AD's help.

3. Kind of already addressed it, but I don't think this organization is good for the students' control over their section.

I take issue with "Michigan

I take issue with "Michigan students working to..." when the football student advisory council is a group of students hand-picked by the AD. Student sections should be meritocracies that work on their own, not opportunities for the AD to exert control over the entire experience.

Have you actually heard that

Have you actually heard that from band people?

These are college students we're talking about. If they nix that, something worse will spring up in its place. Hockey student section has been doing the cya chant for years despite the band throwing the kitchen sink at trying to get rid of it.

906 Class of 2011 right

906 Class of 2011 right here. Lived in the third floor side room without the sink.

I had no idea that the house had that kind of network here.

The stadium lots are sold

The stadium lots are sold out. We got passes at a nearby lot for $44 and they allow tailgating.

My worry with the Chinese ones is that the M looks much lower than it is on the real jersey.

Do you have a picture of your jersey? I've bought soccer jerseys in the past from these sites and I appreciate those, but feel like a high quality football jersey is much much much harder to pull off. From looking at the pictures a lot of those places supply, it looks like a lot of details are off like the M is way too big or way too small, or the adidas logo isn't there, or the jersey fabric looks really off.

I definitely took a look at

I definitely took a look at China/Thailand/etc and the jerseys don't look very good, all of the stuff on the front is consistently the wrong size and the material looks awful.

We stayed in Ybor City. Despite every Tampa local telling us to avoid it and saying that it was sketchy, we liked staying there and never had a single problem.

Ybor was kind of strange--on the weekends the bars and clubs were packed to the gills like it was Bourbon Street, but during the weekdays there would only be 4 or so people in each bar, even on the night after the game. The trolley system was very convenient so we spent some time in Channelside and Downtown as well, but it was kind of unfortunate that there wasn't a central nightlife area to find bowl fans. I suppose the metro area is so big that lots of people stay outside of the immediate city.

One beef I had with Tampa is that we spent midnight on NYE downtown watching the fireworks, and then afterward it was literally impossible to get back to Ybor for bars/clubs because the trolley stopped running shortly after midnight and every cab in the city was booked. As a result we didn't really get to party because it took us 2 hours to find a cab and there were barely any bars open downtown.

I disagree with people saying that the stadium situation sucked. From Ybor it was only a 15 minute or so drive without bad traffic, and we found a parking lot to tailgate in for $10 or so just a ten-minute walk from the stadium.Leaving the stadium we were able to take a sidestreet so we didn't run into any traffic there either. Atmosphere at the game was kind of lame--especially in the student section--but I wasn't really expecting something crazy for a mid-tier bowl.

Walk to the graves, smash

Walk to the graves, smash buckeyes, some stories might be told but it's a relatively brief affair. No official u involvement. Attendance widely varies based on the importance of the game (HBO sent a crew to film it in 06) but I'd guess 20-40 is a good range to expect.

In any case, a non-MLS team hasn't won the Cup since 1999 so I'm pretty happy for the Bucks to have beaten an MLS side.
