None Of Wojo's Column Makes Sense

This is nonsense for a number of reasons.  First, Dave Brandon cannot talk to Harbaugh without Stanford's permission, so this isn't a slam-dunk hire.  Second, why would Harbaugh be in such a  hurry to leave at this very moment?  He has gone so far in a stellar 10-1 season, why not finish the job?   Would he suddenly  jump ship out of the blue at this point?  I imagine he wants to coach Stanford in the Rose or Sugar Bowl.

And finally, more realistically, what happens if/when Harbaugh says "NO" to a Michigan overture?  I doubt Brandon wants to start a national coaching search, when he already has a decent guy at the helm.  Tweaking the defensive coaching staff just might work.

Wojo, progress is being made, albeit more slowly than you would like.   Changes may be forethcoming, but, whoa, Nellie...down boy.

Agree With JTMC33

Agree with you.  Young men grow larger, heavier, and most importantly, learn to hit much harder over a five year period.  An younger defense is a much bigger liability than a young offense.

We have learned this lesson the hard way.

Onward we march.  Better days are ahead.

This Post Is Stupid

We got the living shit kicked out of us, and this is what you guys are crying about?  Wojo wrote that like it or not, Wisconsin is the team that Michigan USED to be: tough, hard-nosed, physical.

How about the personal foul that Lewan got flagged for a week or so ago?  Did RR "order" that, too?

I highly doubt that Bielema "ordered" a chop block.  Dennis Dodd is not the most reputable source of information.  Who evens reads his column?

Bunch of babies.  Stop trying to rationalize why a bigger, stronger, and faster team runs right over us.  It happened.  Move on.

Waste of Time Thread

He's our DC.  Next year we will probably have someone else.  What's to argue?  We won.  Enjoy.

Pray For Snow

Illinois shuts down Denard.  Michigan shuts down, period.

IL 33

UM 20

And the mob grows more restless.  This will make three straight seasons that freakin' Illinois, yeah, the former dormat, has beaten(blasted, to be honest) our beloved.

I cannot take much more of this.

Opposing View For A Different Reason

I agree with everything you've said.  Then the problem beckons: just whom should we hire?

Their are lots of coaches who'd love this job, but are far less qualified than RR.  The handful of obvious ones, well, maybe they have no interest in Michigan at all.

And where does that leave us?  I think Dave Brandon knows this all too well.  A new DC first; see if it improves.  Things might get much worse if we hire someone else.

RR Is Now General Custer

The slaughter will commence if we don't beat Illinois

Obama

He's getting blamed for just about everything, so why not this, too?

My Trip To Madison Yesterday: A Comparison To UM

My cousin took me to his alma mater, Wisconsin, and we watched UW beat OSU last night.

Here are some thoughts on Wisconsin, versus our beloved Wolverines.

Wisconsin took three penalties(Michigan had eight, yesterday v. Iowa).  Wisconsin had four sacks(Michigan had zero).  OSU's longest kickoff return went out to the 33 yd line.  And most glaring, Wisconsin's place kicker can boom the ball a mile.  And he is accurate on kickoffs and FGs as well.

What is the difference between UW and M?  Both teams have approximately equal talent.  Wisconsin is better coached, better prepared, more disciplined, and plays without shooting itself in the foot.  They don't win all their games, but they are not being pushed all over the field.  Wisconsin can stand in there, and dole out punishment.

Coach Rod is a nice guy, but his excuses are getting old.   REAL OLD.  Michigan plays the same sloppy type of football every Saturday.  When they play weak teams, they get by.  When they are confronted by a worthy opponent, they get smacked.  Hard.  It has been three seasons of this.  If you think we are making progress, you are mistaken.

Wisconsin was able to mentally toss their debacle against MSU and beat OSU because of their discipline and mental toughness; and here we all are, arguing what the positives were in our lastest beatdown.  This is a joke.  We are no better than we were last year, and the rest of the league knows it.

Quick.  Name one player on the defensive side of the ball that makes opponents shake.  Yeah.  No one.

Sorry, we have to make a change next season.  Unless you enjoying watching our team thrown around like a rag doll.

Wasn't This Dude Involved In The Engineering Frat Beatdown?

IIRC, Chris L Rucker was at the infamous "pot luck" supper.  Don't know if he was ever charged.  I also remember reading quotes in the Freep from his high school coach about how he was a great kid, and never caused any trouble.

Trouble, as we all know, is a relative state of being.

Nice Work

Fun read, good job.

Hope your prediction is wrong, however.

It Will Be His Loss, Not Ours

I wonder how many touches a game he will get with 'Bama.    Not that the Nicktator has ever lied before.

All of these kids have inflated egos.  Wait until he steps up to D-I.  Things change.

With or without him, MICHIGAN will prevail.

As Chicago Bears Fan: You Guys Got Robbed

The game ended with a terrible, INCORRECT call.  Johnson caught that ball, no doubt.

And wasn't the game dreadfully boring?  College FB rocks.

Chicago Tribune Article On ND

Sunday's Trib reported that ND started TWELVE players who had not played a college game.

This bodes well for our Wolverines.

Great Job-Vegas Line Corroborates Your Work

The over-under on Michigan's win total is SEVEN games.  So you are right on, brother.

Great analysis.  Fun reading, too.

Thanks For The Uplifting News

What will stop the tsunami?  Damn, even IU is probably licking their chops after reading all of the banter on Mgoblog.

Revising my forecast to seven, maybe eight losses.  Won't matter how many points we score, we are in major defensive doo-doo.

And sadly, RR will be canned.   I hate to see this happen, but our defense is thin, inexperienced, and bad.  And there are no excuses after three seasons.  There aren't.  The head coach has badly underestimated what kind of defense is necessary to win in the Big Ten.  Period.

Woolfolf''s Injury Worth 2-3 Losses

UConn, ND, MSU, Iowa, IU, Purdue, Wisconsin, and tOSU all have pretty good QBs, and can generate lots of passing yardage.

If Gerg has to have his CBs play 8-10 yards off the line of scrimage(like two years ago), this could get ugly.

Man, we were getting so close.  Let's hope one of these kids can step up

Question RE Donovan's Contract

Does anyone know how the pay scale works if he makes the practice squad, but not the active 53 man roster?  Does he still make the $320,000?

I would guess that's where he might end up, kinda as a reserve guy who could be added to the regular roster if there's an injury.

Magnus RE Bielema

I got a chuckle out of your reasoning.  I agree with your assessment.

Sadly, the guy is a good coach.  And if you look at Wisconsin's returning starters, they are loaded.

We may be in for a long afternoon trying stop Clay.

Methinks 6-6 for this season.

Also, when was the last time IU beat Michigan?

Why Leave USC?

As far as Rojo's pro career is concerned, wouldn't he be better off staying at USC?  I don't know the statistics, but I would guess that USC has had far more players drafted than either MSU or ND.

Neither of these teams is a huge upgrade for him.  Why would he move?

Also, question to Coach Steve Sharik: doesn't USC play a pro-set offense?  Wouldn't that be a better way for Rojo to show his ability to NFL scouts?

Tesla - The Rock Band?

How does that figure into Coach Rod's strategy?

Ufer

Ufer.   His line..."you know this crowd...they only give us 4000 tickets, 10,000 students, and 74,000 truck drivers"  still makes me laugh.

And we were good back then.  Really good.

This Will CRUSH Michigan's Recruiting In The South

Whatever goodwill RR has nurtured in Florida will be vaporized due to the rejection of admission of one recruit.

I believe Michigan's entering freshman class is around 5500 students.  I would guess that maybe 20 kids per year(football, basketball, and hockey)are true borderline cases.  That is less than 1/2 of a percent.

And as Brian has stated many times, the football program pays for the cost of education for all of its scholarship players.  They actually give money back to the university with their football surplus.

My question to David Brandon and Mary Sue Coleman: how is the university being "shortchanged" if they admit Demar?  And, how can you possibly expect to compete against the likes of Florida, Alabama, USC, Texas, and Ohio State when you pull this nonsense?

Admit Him

Exactly what point is the admissions department is trying to prove?  That our school is so much better than everyone else?

I would guess that USC and Texas(both academically comparable to Michigan) have admitted recruits with sub-standard grades/scores.

If he has passed the NCAA clearinghouse requirement, let him in.

The whole thing is ridiculous.  People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Getting Hotter Until We Beat A Top Four Big Ten Team

RR has not yet won a signature game(ND doesn't count). And forget State.  Who cares about them?  I am talking about beating one of the four ranked Big Ten opponents: tOSU, Penn State, Iowa or Wisconsin.

Now that RR's group is in their third year of training, there is no reason for them not to knock off either the Hawkeyes or Badgers.  Home game.  Right cirumstances.  Gotta do it.

Yeah, I know, the usual nayersayers are snickering that we are weak or have no depth at CB, S, LB, RB etc.  We have the athletes.  They're at least as good as those on Iowa or Wisconsin.  How much more bodybuilding can they do under Barwis?

I love RR.  I think he is our man.

However, it is time to put up or shut up.

He Could Be A Sleeper

There is a great kid here in the Chicago area named Mike Morrissey.  Son of former MSU/Chicago Bear LB Jim Morrissey, Mike was a standout at WR and LB in high school.  I believe he had offers from most MAC schools, Duke, and BC(his only "big" offer).  Most people might have doubted that he could play at the ACC level.  Read from BC's website:

"Appeared in every game and earned the starting sam linebacker spot the last seven games of the year...finished with 37 tackles (24 solo) on the year and ranked third on the team in pass break ups (3) and tackles for a loss (7)...had two tackles and a tackle for a loss against USC in the Emerald Bowl."

Folks, these players DO go un-scouted.  It is possible for kids to get better than they were in high school.

Good luck, Jake.  Proud you are a Wolverine.

I Predict

I predict that The Knowledge will grace us with his "always right"  game forecasts.  The dude has never been wrong.  Just ask him

Hey, Knowledge, where art tho, bro?  Haven't heard from or about you in a while.  Could use a little levity, amigo.

And this board is getting reeeaalllyyyy boring.

Bravo For Doing This So Quickly

The Freep, on the other hand, is closing in on one year of silence for their faux pas.  Not one word of apology or retraction.

Brian, you are THE man.  No problem, bro.

Excellent Job

Please forward to Commish Delaney.  Wow.

Wisconsin

Madison is the best town in the Big Ten after Ann Arbor. Their teams are never great, but, man, they are a very tough opponent to beat.

Pyscho, drunk fans(yeah, we could use some of'em at The Big House). Most drunk I ever got was at the 2005 Michigan-Wisconsin loss; which I still say we should have won, and got robbed by the officials.

Kinda Doesn't Matter At This Point

A sixth or seventh round pick is pretty much destined for special teams and a backup role, forever.

Also means your NFL career will probably be no more than four or five years, as other sixth and seventh rounders come into the league to take your roster spot at a cheaper price.

Damn, we really could have used you this season, Donovan. Best of luck to you, brother, wherever you land.

Hate OSU, But Admire Tressel

The guy can coach. Face up to it: Bucks are pretty good.

We just gotta get better.

Ducks. What a bunch of weenies.

BTN Is Already Charging Us

I believe my cable bill increased by a couple of dollars a month to pay for the BTN. Why should we pay more for services for which we have already paid?

Or I am missing something?

Kudos To All

Kudos to Coach Carr, for using his pull to get Brock transferred to the U of M Med Center; to the Rehab Unit that performs miracles like this with accident victims.

But highest kudos to Brock. How about his work ethic? You are a stud, brother.

Best wishes, we are all pulling for you.

Whacko

University of Phoenix. From downtown Chicago.

Can Michigan schedule them for a non-conference game?

Score Please and Time Left

Thanks

What is the Score?

Cannot get the feed.

Belloti

Oregon was basically an also ran until Belloti ramped up their program. Oregon suffers from the same second rate citizen status that Sparty does in the Big Ten. They are WAY below academically vs. Stanford, Cal, UCLA, USC, and of course, their worst nemesis, UW.

With the generous backing of Duck grad Phil Knight(Nike), Oregon has really put themselves on the map. And this, boys and girls, is how they did it.

People here really don't appreciate a guy like RR. Yeah, he hasn't hit his stride here(yet), but at least he hasn't had to resort to the BS that Belloti and Chip Kelley did.

Awesome. We Will Be Back 2010

We should be faster and stronger than almost every team on our schedule. No reason not to win 8, maybe 9 games.

Great job. Really enjoyed it.

Rutgers Is Somewhat Financially Challenged

Their endowment is only $500M. The smallest Big Ten endowment is around $1.1 Billion(according to Wikipedia), which is Illinois/IU/MSU.

Rutgers is fraying around the edges. Take Texas. And A&M.

It Was His Choice

From what we all read, Donovan was warned by the Michigan coaching staff that he was taking a flier by entering as a junior. His performance last season was stellar at times, but he was occasionally exposed as well.

Hopefully, it will work out well for him.

Judge, Jury And Executioner

While the list of allegations is long, the infractions which supposedly took place are relatively minor. Yes, the NCAA undoubtedly will do something to Michigan... hey everyone, CALM DOWN.

Not keeping adequate practice logs? Not counting stretching as part of regular exercise periods? Practices going an extra 20-30 minutes? Should we dissolve the football program?

Let's go back to where our mindset was maybe one week ago. If we see a team that is improved over 2008 and 2009, and shows promise for the next few seasons, leave it at that.

I liked CoachRod last week(and this week, also), and despite this garbage that the Freep has stirred up, I am standing by him. I personally believe we win 8 or 9 games this fall.

P.S. For some laughs, go to the Freep(just this one time)and read Drew Sharp's laughable column, and some of the comments. Hilarious. That is one tormented dude.

Obi Was Not Held

Obi just seemed to be moving along with the flow until he caught up with the play ten yards downfield, if I understand Brian's reason for inserting this Youtube.

Either he(and Mouton) has to play better or we need another player(s) at ILB.

Finally, Depth On The Way In The Defensive Backfield

So we should have the following groups:

Corners:
Turner, Christian, Dorsey, Floyd, Teric Jones

Safeties:
Woolfolk, Kovacs, Emilien, Williams, Cam Gordon, MRob

Cool. One or more of these guys will be stars.

Thought Provoking

Texas and Florida, I agree. Alabama and LSU, I disagree.

One demographic trend is that the chasm academically between the Big Ten and the SEC has narrowed in the last 50 or so years. The rising population in the South has made it more difficult to get admitted to some of those schools(UGA and Florida in particular).

Improved academics, great football, and better weather. We are fighting a losing battle long-term.

They Had A Better Record Than We Did

8-4 regular season versus our 5-7. Most people on the board, myself included, are worrying about this game.

We have a chance to deliver the knockout punch in the first two games, but it won't be easy.

Tom Darden, Don Dufek, Dwight Hicks, Charles Woodson

If any of the young DBs play where they show an inkling like the above-mentioned, we are going to be in fine shape. If not this season, then 2011 for sure.

Same As Last Year To Start 2010

RR will probably go with Floyd, Woolfolk, Williams, and Kovacs to start the season. The four of them have probably 25+starts between them, which is about 25+ more than the frosh group about which you are speaking.

I do agree that as the season goes on, the new kids will play, and we will see lots of different combos here. I also believe that Kovacs will eventually be moved to Stevie Brown's position. His footspeed isn't great, but he is a smart player and a sure-handed tackler.

CEO Is A Shrewd Guy

It took a guy from a completely different industry(Boeing), but I think they really have turned the corner.

Akron and NFL

Charlie Frey and Jason Taylor, I believe. Decent program.
