Ark vs Alabama could decide the Heisman this year
I don't think anybody has Mallet within a mile of the Nard Dawg right now, but there is a big time opportunity coming up this week for Mallet when he takes on Alabama.
If he lights up that Alabama defense (which I highly doubt he does by the way), it will be hard to make the argument for him NOT to become the leader in the race. Then we pretty much HAVE to beat MSU, WISC and OSU for the Nard Dawg to get back in.
So, despite being led by the devil himself (Saban not Mallet), I ask, nay beseech you to support the Alabama defense and pray for an ugly ass 7 (fumble returned for TD) -3 (fumble-3andout-FG) win for Alabama this weekend.
For those who are inevitably going to say "the team, the team, blah blah blah", the positive press Denard is bring to UM and recruiting advantage of having a Heisman Trophy winner more than justify rooting for personal accolades. I want Denard to stay humble throughout the process but I am going to be rooting like hell for him to win the stiff arm trophy.

OSU vs Mich could decide the Heisman this year.
September 23rd, 2010 at 12:03 PM ^
O$U VS Mich for sure Brooooo
Pryor and the success of O$U, will most likely make him a finalist. And Denard will continue to do what Denard does.
September 23rd, 2010 at 12:27 PM ^
O$U? Really?
September 23rd, 2010 at 12:37 PM ^
Of course you'd use a $ in O$U, Gordon Gekko is your avatar after all. Who else is pumped for the new Wall Street movie?
September 23rd, 2010 at 2:39 PM ^
until I heard Regis telling Kelly how good-looking Shia LeBoof is.
September 23rd, 2010 at 3:45 PM ^
Is it true Gordon Gekko rocked a Shoelace T shirt?
September 23rd, 2010 at 4:16 PM ^
Meh. Not interested. Looks kind of like a cheap cash-in on Wall Street hatred. Heh. Greed is good for Ollie Stone.

Even with a great game out of Mallet, it is hard to ignore Denard's ridiculous stats. I don't know that this game singlehandedly gives him a leg up on the Heisman but it would help. Denard just has to keep doing what he's doing and let the chips fall where they may. I am fairly certain that Denard will win a Heisman during his time at Michigan. Whether it is this year I cannot say.
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:43 AM ^
While it would be amazing if D-Rob won the Heisman, I would rather we win more games (8-9 range) than anything.
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:45 AM ^
Chances are a great season and Denard possibly winning the Heisman go hand-in-hand.
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:47 AM ^
Agreed. But you never know I guess. Hopefully both happen.
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:56 AM ^
I can't see anyone, even with Denards current stats extrapolated through the end of the season, winning the Heisman from a team with less than 9 wins. Voters are retarded, and are fed by the mainstream media.
I just don't think Denard has a shot unless we are inline for a Big10 championship going into the Wisconsin game.
September 23rd, 2010 at 12:57 PM ^
Yeah, I think 9 wins is the minimum. However, Ricky Williams won it in 1998 with an 8 win Texas team.
September 23rd, 2010 at 3:02 PM ^
Also, Tebow won it on an 8-4 Florida team.
September 23rd, 2010 at 3:39 PM ^
Actually, they were 9-3 when he won, and then we beat them to make them 9-4. We both finished 9-4 that season.

Great avatar. That shot is my screen saver here at work and that kid makes me laugh nearly every time I see him and his Lloyd Christmas cut. That and the Lisa left-eye Lopez kid on the other side makes that picture a true classic. Was it special-ed front row day that game or something? Is that the best our student section has to offer?
/Please tell me that isn't you in the picture...

Sounds like Denard agrees with you. How cool is that?!
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:44 AM ^
So which team is Denard playing for in that game?
September 23rd, 2010 at 12:51 PM ^
Didn't you hear Denard is playing quarterback for Alabama. The NCAA said Denard had to transfer because only the SEC could have a player that fast.
September 23rd, 2010 at 2:38 PM ^
How sick would Bama be if they had Denard? I think my brain just esploded.
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:44 AM ^
Lets leave that nickname strictly for Tony Reali
September 23rd, 2010 at 1:25 PM ^
Or Andy Bernard.
September 23rd, 2010 at 6:50 PM ^
More so Andy Bernard

And he has to stay healthy.... not the surest of things, especially with Mallet's history.
I too expect him to put up some points on that young Alabama D. And lets face it, Petrino, while a complete dick, knows how to utilize a big armed gunslingin' qb. Their offense should be a force all year.
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:52 AM ^
If you look at past Heisman winners, they usually classify into two categories: 1) They're on a team that is contending for a NC or 2) they put ridiculous stats.
Category 1 would be players like Ingram, Leinart, Bush*, White, even probably Desmond etc.
Category 2 would be players like Tebow, Sanders, and Bo Jackson.
I don't really see Mallet falling in either category.
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:53 AM ^
Oregon State painted their practice field blue to get ready for Boise, so #15 just painted his neck red to get ready for Bama #pot #kettle
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:53 AM ^
You bite your tongue.
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:56 AM ^
It's an old chiche, but I just don't see Mallett reacting to being "hit in the mouth" as well as Denard does. And that is exactly what will happen to Mallett against Bama. Until Mallett demonstrates that he has as much poise as Denard already has, I don't have a lot of confidence in him as a Heisman winner.
September 23rd, 2010 at 12:06 PM ^
Or it could decide who the "experts" say leads after this week.
September 23rd, 2010 at 12:46 PM ^
but Arkansas wins 3-2? The evil empire (Saban) loses, and Denards chances to win the heisman go up.
September 23rd, 2010 at 12:46 PM ^
I don't think that anything is being decided in week 4. It is a long (not long enough) season. Denard is getting a lot of early season hype, as are Mallett and Pryor. Once we get to November, we can start looking at individual games to speculate as to which games will decide the Heisman rase.
On another note, I don't think that there is anything anti-the-team, the team, the team in rooting for Denard to put up gaudy numbers and win the Heisman. Look at the way that the Denard hype has influenced the MSM's coverage of Michigan. This is a huge positive, as it takes RR off of the hot seat (to some extent), and most definitely helps influence recruits towards Michigan. Think about it - if you were a 17 year old kid (which means that you do not necessarily think rationally), would you rather go to the school that the MSM is constantly talking about being in a state of decline, with a coach on the way out the door and under investigation by the NCAA or a team with a dynamic offense, with a Heisman-contending, hyped QB that is getting tons of media love?
September 23rd, 2010 at 12:52 PM ^
I think it can be simply stated by saying two huge factors in college football success are brand name and recruiting, and the Denard/Heisman Hype Train is definitely helping the Michigan brand name.
September 23rd, 2010 at 12:59 PM ^
I don't really like Saban, but Petrino can suck my balls. I hope Alabama beats them by 40
September 23rd, 2010 at 1:00 PM ^
First off, I hope I never see "Nard Dawg" as a nickname for anything ever again. Secondly, even though there is still a long way to go, the Heisman is Denard's to lose. Mallett is a great passer but he can't replicate dilithium.
September 23rd, 2010 at 11:16 PM ^
Yeah, I get that it's a reference to The Office, but still, it's just bad.
September 23rd, 2010 at 1:07 PM ^
for a fact Denard doesn't care about the Heisman, so why should we. Would it be great if he won it? Yes it would, but honestly I care more about winning football games right now. Nard has 2 more years to win a Heisman so yeah whateveaz
September 23rd, 2010 at 2:52 PM ^
Why do people keep acting like winning the Heisman comes at the expense of winning games? They happen to be pretty strongly correlated. The one change that could improve team performance while hurting Denard's chances would be finding a great running back, and I think that the added wins would more than offset the reduced Denard carries.
September 23rd, 2010 at 2:38 PM ^
Mallett has a bad day and Ingram doesn''t go off then i'd say it is moot
If michigan went 9-3 or 10-2, and denard was killing it all season, and he had mega stats, while pryor is doing like 250 passing 75 rushing and 2 td and 2 ints a game, then pror has no chance, because that defense bailed him out !
September 23rd, 2010 at 2:44 PM ^
It doesn't really matter how bad Mallett plays. If he stays in the whole game and Arkansas wins, that will boost him up because the folks on ESPN will talk about how he beat them. Let's just hope Bama wins this one and loses the rest of their games.
September 23rd, 2010 at 3:23 PM ^
At this point last year, few people had heard of Ingram and none considered him a legit Heisman candidate. So even if Mallet or Ingram play well, it may have no effect on the final race. If Denard wins the Heisman, that would be great. But I would care far more (and it sounds like he feels the same way) if Denard leads this team to 10 wins and a bowl win.

If this game decides the Heisman, I'll donate one Schrutebuck to the general scholarship fund of the winner.
