So, Jim Mcelwain...hypothetically...
Hypothetically, how would we feel about him as the 10th assistant?
Edit: Secret's out.

McElwain's wikipedia page now says "Michigan Passing Game Coordinator". Not that that means anything, really, but it's a thing.

You see a man tame Nick Saban's ego enough to field some dynamic offenses while still showing ball security and consistency, and you call him an offensive genius.
You see that same man then turn a middling, moribund Mountain West program into an offensive dynamo that crushes all comers, and you call him a coach on the rise.
You see that same man go to a beleagured SEC program and, not for nothing, win two division championships, and you call him a solid coach navigating a difficult situation.
But hump ONE shark, and...

LOL
So we're just going to take in this man that has sex with cartilaginous fish and give him a pass?! This is the future liberals want.

especially since conservatives want it too. It's one of the few things we all agree on around here.

It's amazing how people let the peter principal affect their overall view of somebody when in their previous/lesser role they had nothing but success. Usually, the issue is more around having that person realize they won't be that next level again.
Fwiw, I would be fine if in 2019 or beyond we brought back Hoke has a D-Line coach if Mattison were to retire. I doubt he'd ever do it, but if he was willing I'd be excited about it.

His shortcomings as a HC should not be held against him since we hired him as an offensive assistant and he has a reasonable good track record as an offensive assitant.
Same would apply to Hoke if he was brought back as a d line coach.

Closest sharks are at least 1,000 miles away, should be fine.

All Aquariums will have to post a picture of his face and warn that he's not allowed to do the 'swim with the sharks' events.

I could be wrong, but I thought McElwain was actually a pretty crappy recruiter. Good coach, but here's his lifetime recruiting profile: https://247sports.com/Coach/Jim-McElwain-270/AllTimeRecruits

Wrong thread. Ignore my Teske comment.

I would like the hire. I feel like his issues at FL were more discipline related than coaching or finding talent.
Dude was putting up with points with Grier then get got popped and transfered. Best WR couldnt stay out of trouble, then the whole fiasco this off-season.
I mean I wouldn't want the guy running the disciplinary realm of a program but I don't think he has a problem putting up points when he can get his guys on the field (which he shouldnt have a problem with here) (knock on wood).

but I am somewhat puzzled. That is due because he has the same offensive philosophy as Harbaugh's. He likes a tough ass, well balanced offense with a good mixture of both running and passing and when he has those two elements working, surprise, much like Harbaugh's his offense goes well. He's had periods where he had an excellent rushing attack, mixed with a nice passing attack and success. When that is not available, and its not surprising, he struggles. Actually, his struggles, as you all seen were every bit the equal of ours.'
But yes, he does have a good offensive mind as does JH. Both are proving well the axiom of the Jimmys and the Joes. It would not surprse me if we get good qb play that he would receive a lot of the credit due to nothing more than timing and regardless of what he is hired as, he will be participating in Harbaugh's offense, something the ofensive players outside the receivers will be practicing for their third season. So yes, I think there will be success; the better the qb play, the better the entire offense works.
Just wanted to make certain that you were aware the numbers he did throw up at CSU were when he had a good rushing attack and qb play that was among the best in that conference. If we get that, the results, as shown without ever really having a rushing attack that scares opposing defenses, our offense can be pretty damn good with decent qb and receiver play. I anticipate that this season and if one our RBs wants to move from the ordinary to among the top of the leauge, I think -and it doesn't matter if its JH, JM, Pep or Drevno who has the title - this offense will move forward nicely this season. This staff has done good with good players. If they get great play, this staff will do great work.
You might see some RPO, etc., but if we do it will because the coaches - final say, the Big Guy - has determined the team is ready to move forward with its inclusion. Expect to see smash mouth, timely passing and if successful, the offense by nature, will become more imaginative because the players will be more capable. SAT.

he's out the door as soon as he gets a better offer.
If he doesn't do well, he's out the door as soon as JH makes somebody else a better offer.
Either way, the revolving door will continue to revolve.

Doesn't that statement apply to essentially every coach at every school except for head coaches at destination jobs and the occassional lifer assistant?

As long as he gets this offense in the top 50, paired with Don Browns defense, the recruiting will take care of itself when the wins start pouring in.

We about the least qualified group as a whole to pass judgment on the wisdom of this hire.
Best just to have faith in JH in such instances.
