Jim McElwain: “Their guys were bigger and stronger. They whooped us. Plain and simple.”
“I thought we had a good plan obviously. As it turned out, the plan was pretty well foiled by getting whooped.”

something, something, we are going to beat something, something, the heck out of something, something, Michigan.

He doesn't talk a ton of shit and he seems to be pretty self-aware. He knows they got their ass kicked and he didn't make anything up.
September 2nd, 2017 at 9:31 PM ^
He and his damn team couldn't stop yapping before the game. The Wolverines let their play do the talking.
September 2nd, 2017 at 9:33 PM ^
He was at a pep rally, what do you expect him to say???

Wins work too.
September 2nd, 2017 at 10:36 PM ^
Something that's peppy, but that wouldn't be rubbed in his face post-game. What would you think if, at a pep rally, Harbaugh said something like what McElwain said?
September 2nd, 2017 at 11:06 PM ^
One bit?? It's a freaking pep rally.
September 3rd, 2017 at 12:06 AM ^
Giving bulletin board material to the other team isn't a good idea. Maybe you'll understand that some day. Post-game, UM's defensive players mentioned using Florida's comments as motivation.

maybe not peppy enough for a pep rally
September 2nd, 2017 at 9:33 PM ^
He seems like a likeable guy. His players let him down. He deserves better than that.
September 2nd, 2017 at 9:39 PM ^
This is his third year. It is his responsibility to bring in players that will not keep continually letting him down.
There is a reason that Harbaugh does not chase every shiny-object 5-star recruit.
September 2nd, 2017 at 9:43 PM ^
Maybe so, but I don't remember the last time 10 guys were suspended all at the same time. It must be one of those things where 1 guy got a "bright idea" and explained it to his friends who followed his example. One guy getting his student card stolen is believable but when it's 10+ guys the school is going to know something's up. I put the blame on the kids, that's not something the coach has control over.
September 2nd, 2017 at 10:01 PM ^
but coaches do have a lot of influence over the behavior of their teams, both on and off the field. McElwain set a poor tone by his lack of disicipline for his star player for past incidents. Why would anyone be surprised when Calloway was involved again?
September 2nd, 2017 at 10:05 PM ^
I hear ya, man. Calloway seems to be a bad apple. Maybe he's the one that started the whole scheme and the other kids, not knowing any better, just followed suit. Not trying to make excuses but I like the way he's handling the whole situation. He reminds me a bit of Hoke in that regard. Strict on his punishments.

The players were put in a position to make a play and just didn't execute.

I like the guy. He does'nt make excuses and disciplines his players. He is a lot better than the Nick Saban's of the world. That guy just is not good when it comes to what is right. Mcelwain seems to be a decent dude. Saban and that slob for lsu are what is wrong in college coaches. A starting player for Saban could rape and kill his family and he would still start them. Mcelwain is not bad for college players, but a lot of sec coaches are. Freeze, Saban, Meyer when he was at Florida and crouch voice for lsu. Odgerflirp or something.
September 3rd, 2017 at 1:14 AM ^
The economy in Alabama is cotton, Tide football and mud runs with old trucks from the 80's all year round. Do you really think they are going to sit a player for more than a game if he doesn't commit a crime close to murder? Not going to happen. When Saban goes under, there is going to be a high demand for old mud trucks and I aim to bank off of it.
September 2nd, 2017 at 9:20 PM ^
McElwain said they thought they had a good plan. The plan was pretty well foiled by getting whooped by some big, physical guys.

September 2nd, 2017 at 9:23 PM ^
He always seems befuddled. He does not have Spurrier's edge or Meyer's smarts.
I was never a fan of this hire - your're Florida fergodsakes - it felt like it was a default hire because there was nobody better available at the time.
September 2nd, 2017 at 9:29 PM ^
befuddled is a good word for it. he looks like that all the time on the sideline

I mean two 10 win seasons and division titles are nothing to scoff at, but UF got spoiled by the Meyer/Tebow era. The program has regressed back to the mean. They're still good but they're not what they were.

I don't think the comparisons others are making to Hoke are apt, but you're spot on about Nussmeier. Why anybody thinks he's some sort of dynamic offensive mind is a mystery. It's like Cam Cameron.

Actually they're the Spartans. (It's the San Jose NHL team that's the Sharks.) But lots of unsuccessful ex-UM assistants seem to end up at SJSU.

BLESSED REDEMPTION.
AMEN.
Read this link about a certain event that happned 10 years ago and feel so damn fucking good about how we have finally climbed out of the wilderness.
Go ahead and read about what other teams really thought about us then, and then go and reread McElwain's statements above.
It's nice to be on the other end of these for once.
