NEG UPDATE: New #1

Submitted by The Fugitive on

It wouldn't be near the first game if we didn't have a neg record. If you recall, last season Mr Yost set an (un)official Neg record.  According to MGoHoF, Yost's Neg total as of the spring was 1,248 for not believing UMbig11's report that Speight was QB1.

Well then.

Somewittyname did not let that record stand.  Please go to the Camp Update from Sam Webb thread and Neg if you haven't already.

EDIT: As of 12:50pm on Sunday, the results are as follows:

Total Negs 4,621
Total Posts 37
Neg Average 125
Neg High 259

The table only takes into account Negs in the Camp Update thread.

It is important to note that this poster began their spree with over 4,400 points and is currently -1,397.  We can assume this poster accumulated roughly 5,800 Negs over the course of 18 hours.

The Mods may need to confirm this, but have we ever witnessed an OP that has a negative point total?  someshittyname created a post (which can be negged here) comparing last year's starters versus this year's projected starters.  It's hilarious to me to see that negative point total in an OP.  Nice job.

I'm not counting upvotes. Strictly Negs. Thank you stephenrjking for pointing out the current total in the HoF.

Idk.  I think it's all pretty stupid on somewittyname's end.  He had well over 3,000 points so obviously he contributed content at some point that alot of people appreciated.  Maybe he's a troll and should be sent to Bolivia.  Or we could just ignore his posts.  He should just stop drinking and go to bed but doesn't seem like his style.

Appreciate the thought. But I haven't attacked a single person. I've done nothing but state objective thoughts. Literally---go read every single one. Not a single one is anything other than voicing my own opinion. Now I guess if feeling skeptical about RT is banworthy, then ok, I understand. Harbaugh is my lord and I shall not doubt and what not.

People disagree on the MGo constantly. On the other thread... You ask a question about how Ulizio being in contention can be a good thing, basically (paraphrasing, obvs). Poster provides a reasonable enough response supporting Ulizio's contention for the job. You state: "Whatever you guys have to tell yourselves" Fan base isn't full of delusional fools. Probably bad form to imply the same kid.

Here's how I feel about someone suggesting Ulizio in competition for starting RT is a good thing, "whatever you have tell yourself." If that makes me a dick, then fine man. That's okay. I'd rather be a dick and be right than be "positive" and be wrong. These days there's way too little respect for objectivity and facts and way too much for feelingsball, as brain would say.

Fwiw, I don't think you're being a dick with the exception of your Mitch C. comment. But there isn't objectivity and fact in your arguments any more than those opposed. You're providing a take on something none of us really have any certainty on. It's reasonable to think Ulizio, as a scholarship athlete should or could be developing as a potential RT. Doesn't mean he will be. You're identifying concern this is problematic and speaks less well of the incumbent candidates. Neither of those takes are objective and require both sides to make some assumptions. Feelingsball to a degree both ways.

Typical of people like yourself, you constantly conflate your own opinion with "facts" and "truth."

There's nothing wrong about having the opinion that Ulizio getting time with the 1s does not augur well for the RT spot. It's entirely possible that your concerns will be borne out.

However, at this time you cannot prove—nor can anyone else—that Nolan Ulizio isn't going to be a positive addition at RT. We have to wait to see what transpires in the rest of fall practice, and in game situations if/when he does play.

It's your assertion that you alone possess "data" and "facts" and then climbing up on the cross of supposed truth-telling, nailing yourself to it, and then moaning "Forgive them, Father, the idiot, sheep-like MGoBlog masses refuse to respect my objectivity and wisdom" for the next several hours that kicked things off.

It's really been a riveting piece of performance art. Kudos.

Is it not possible, and for the record you're one of like five other posters I respect, that I could be saying something that is ultimately true but ruffles feathers and then it's gets fun to neg and neg and neg? Sure I don't have to be such a dick, but unless someone can make one single convincing argument that Ulizio competing at RT is a good sign for our team, I'll continue to argue my point. I mean, this is the internet? What do I have to lose but to argue my point?

It's fine to have a dissenting opinion, and I definitely don't think you deserve to be Bolivia'd for thinking a certain player getting first team reps is bad news. You could have left it at your first couple posts instead of choosing this as your hill to die on, though.

it is not fine to have a dissenting opinion here. even if presented logically and non dickishly, someone anyways throws a fit and either gets shit started or makes shitty comments back. this place is not for civil disagreements.

Sometimes you just gotta learn how to let it go. Nobody actually cares at this point if you're right or wrong. They just want to see if you can figure out when to shut the fuck up. Which, obviously, you can't. [And for the record I think the addition of Ulizio to the RT mix is ambiguous / weak information in either direction]

You can think and believe what you want, but you can't change the fact that not knowing that players can improve by leaps and bounds over time for a whole variety of known and obvious reasons, and that low rated, average rated and unrated players end up as contributors, starters, & all conference  players all the fucking time, & that it's not uncommon that they become all Americans & stars, sometimes College Hall Of Famers, very often NFL players, often NFL stars and & sometimes NFL Hall Of Famers, and that Harbaugh has a long history of improving lots and lots of players that way, and has shown that dramatically in his short time coaching here already, & that you have absolutely zero evidence that isn't what's happening in this case if indeed he's in the mix,  and to automatically assume with definiteness that it's not the case with no supporting evidence makes you STUPID AS FUCK!

Most of the people that just went to the NFL hadn't done SHIT in their whole careers until Harbaugh got a hold of them! Whether Harbaugh is responsible for that or not (& he obviously was a big factor), it still shows that drastic improvement happens to college players! Look at all the transfers & grad transfers like Rudddddock, Wilson, Rawls. etc. etc.

I understand that I just look at it through my eyes.  I work two jobs and still check MGOBLOG daily, but don't have the time to constantly post to get points.  To me, it just seemed having a few thousand points, that at some points he may have added constructive points to the board to get upvoted.  I'm sorry if I came across as not realizing he could get points without posting constructive content, I was just looking at it from my perspective.  As I mentioned in my replies to his comments, I do not agree with his points of view.  Accusing someone of sleeping with 15 year olds is never ok in my eyes.  To make humor out of something that is that awful, especially seeing what happened at PSU, is not ok.

Jmbeezy, I bet my point to post ratio was higher than yours until tonight. I just don't post that much generally. You give us that typical 40 year old man outlook, which is fine sometimes but not terribly insightful. You follow basketball but don't really know the game like the folks at umhoops. You're kinda just this old fart wanderer who really should just join the Victors board, or maybe Board 5. Maybe you're already there. I'm no better.

Curious if you have the stats that show I get upvoted at a much higher rate than average mgoblogger? Oh you do and they don't fit your narrative? Ok. The internet killed the rational star.

I just want to say at this point, having gone back through this thread, that I admire the dedication to being a very, very salty human being on the Internet. That takes a lot of focus.

Also, surely we can unite under the banner of Michigan - this LSA grad sees no need to insult an entire college at the university. It's not our fault we were closer to better dining and drinking.

It has truly been a beautiful thing to behold. Screw the eclipse, I'm glad I was here to witness a multi thread -1,000 negbang. Now if only the blog could offer up a -9,000. I know, I know, that's impossible..

Mr. Yost is still first in my heart because he genuinely had a meltdown. This guy had maybe one or two legitimate dick posts then decided to just go full troll with it. His posts in this thread are pretty much proof of that.

stephenrjking

I agree. The Mr. Yost meltdown was high art engaged in by an otherwise respected contributor to the board. Every Yost post was a well-crafted masterpiece of misplaced antagonism, a symphony of unrighteous indignation. It was an elegant singularity of Neg. Even Maizen's follow-up effort was an energetic rampage with its own peculiar beauty. This is more like a troll session whose protagonist is a 17-year-old who keeps playing the same three chords on his Epiphone guitar with the $50 Amp's gain turned up to 10. Noisy, yes, but aesthetically dull.
