Lose to worst OSU team in forever at home aggravation thread

Okay, but what if we win out, beat Sparty and make the tournament?!!! Would Beilein get another year?!!!!
This feels like Brady Hoke's last year. Incredibly sad.
February 4th, 2017 at 8:28 PM ^
We need a change.
Unfortunately, it's not going to happen after this year. Knowing Warde/our Athletic Department in general, Beilein won't be let go unless he misses the tournament this year and next year.
Damn shame. I like John a lot, but it's clearly not working and there is no rational reason to think this will be fixed at any point in the next few years.
Total and utter stagnation. Can't blame fanbase for apathy.

I love reading this two years after the fact because that's pretty much exactly what happened.

Lol this is the best. So glad someone referenced it.

I was hoping a while ago when Beilein said something about benching veterans if they didn't improve he was referring to Irvin.
He's got a bit of what I call The Manny Harris Effect. Tries too hard to score, throws up terrible shots, and (to some degree) promotes an offense of standing around watching the ball. When Manny Harris was hurt (senior season?), the rest of the team stepped up in his absence and played much better as a team.
February 4th, 2017 at 8:18 PM ^
But losing to a poor OSU team at home does not provide much hope for the tournament. May be we can get into NIT?

Not In Tournament....awesome.

Outworked, out-rebounded, out-schemed.
This game was a gimme and a must-win.
February 4th, 2017 at 8:22 PM ^
Not defending Beilein anymore cause, yes, I understand he recruited these guys... but the lack of ANY HEART on this team (outside of walton) is beyond embarassing. You could throw four of us out there with walton who would play 4 times as hard. These guys have zero fucking pride and zero fucking desire. Can't coach heart even if your John Wooden.

Honestly, they need to just move on from Irvin at this point. If he's sick, injured, whatever, they need to run out with someone else and at least lose with people who are going to be here next year. I am sure Irvin is a nice guy, but it's been 4 years of tease and nothing to really show for it.

I wouldn't go that far. A lot of his guys had good final years (whether seniors or not) - Burke, Stauskas, THJ, Morgan, Novak, Douglass, Albrecht, etc.
But it's not happening anymore though, and that's a problem.
February 4th, 2017 at 8:44 PM ^
I think Walton is having a better season than the past couple, and people forget DJ Wilson was assumed to be a bust as recently as the beginning of this season.

So Trey Burke, Nik Stauskas, GRIII, Caris Levert, Darius Morris, Hardaway Jr., Jordan Morgan, and even Walton this year all regressed?
February 4th, 2017 at 9:10 PM ^
that completely disergarded reality. Forgive the poor schmuck. There's all kinds of things to be pissed off about with this team, he just chose to make one up rather than choose one of the valid ones.

That was one pathetic effort by everyone not named Walton. When Donnal is your 2nd toughest player, you're having a soft outing.
February 4th, 2017 at 11:09 PM ^
Maybe everyone else has the flu.
February 4th, 2017 at 8:25 PM ^
I suspected we were going to the NIT regardless of what happened tonight but I'm still pissed. And I'm not going to point to throwing out the records because this is a rivalry game.
This is not the first time a crappy ass, NIT at best bound team has had all their problems fixed by playing Michigan. This is a continuing factor that seems endless.
I like Beilein as a person but no longer as a coach. This is his 10th year here. I'm sick of the shit performances against shit teams.

Who cares. A team that plays like this on their home floor against their biggest enemy doesn't belong in any tournament. Hope next year isn't the same...

This program has peaked under Beilien. Let's stop fooling ourselves in thinking anything but that.

February 4th, 2017 at 8:27 PM ^
I feel bad for Walton, since he's apparently the only player on the team to give a shit.
February 4th, 2017 at 8:59 PM ^
only player that showed any heart out there. for all of his faults and for all of his strengths, at least he plays hard
February 4th, 2017 at 9:02 PM ^
I suppose you could count Wagner, too, but he can't manage stay on the court.
February 4th, 2017 at 9:16 PM ^
while the rest of the team shrinks from the task. . . demoralizing. I have given this team and Beilein every benefit of the doubt this season while everyone else was lighting the torches and polishing the tines on their pitchforks but. . . I just had zero confidence once they went behind tonight that they were going to seize the reins and win it. I don't think Beilein did, either.
February 4th, 2017 at 10:00 PM ^
Shrivel. Turtle. Run. Hide. Take out Walton and it was a jr. high effort...
February 4th, 2017 at 9:49 PM ^
February 4th, 2017 at 8:32 PM ^
Over the last two games, Irvin is averaging 2.5 PPG 2.5 RPG, and 2.5 APG with 2/18 shooting, including 1/8 from 3. Bench his ass.
February 4th, 2017 at 8:34 PM ^
WTF was this effort tonight? A shit OSU team, which can't shoot or take care of the ball, won this game just by outworking us. Somehow, their NIT team wanted this game more than us. That is pathetic.
February 4th, 2017 at 8:39 PM ^
February 4th, 2017 at 8:41 PM ^
yet somehow is a #1 or #2 option on this team?
Beilein teams are always Charmin soft...this one just also happens to be less talented than most of his other groups.
Time for a change.

Just gotta ride out the rest of this year and Coach B will finally send him packing, TG.
Weakest post player since...Blake McLimans
At least Coach had some encouraging things to say about Austin Davis.
PS - Bell's is greater that Short's
