Clemson OT Jake Fruhmorgen (former 4*) to Transfer--Michigan Potential Destination

Submitted by Caesar on

He was 119 on the 247 composite in 2015. Article (link) mentions Michigan as a possible destination. He was on Michigan's radar and took an unofficial visit (link).

Transfers sit a year, but Michigan could probably still use him.

Everyone would agree with you, that if it were a choice between someone like this and an Isaiah Wilson instant-starter type, you opt for the latter. However, we have 32 spots and 27 guys so far, and no proof anyone will be a guaranteed starter in 2018; under those circumstances, I don't see how you don't at least look at a guy like this, assuming he's not getting run off for medical or attitude reasons.

Haha, I'm right there with ya. I've been thinking the best combo is probably Bredeson Ruiz OR Kugler Cole Onwenu JBB Which actually looks pretty solid to me the more I think about it. Where does this line step back from last year's line? Maybe RT? The rest is equal to better

a guy at RT that looked very bad at LT this year (who isn't young and probably not getting much better), a guy at LT that looked very bad at LG this year (who is young so should be better than last year but still probably not better than Braden), a true frosh or underacheiver at LG, and a promising but very inexperienced RG.

Night sweats...shiver. As Mr. Miggle said, that's a step back at both tackles positions and possible steps back at both guard positions (albeit possible improvements there too).

is transferring. Family issues could mean a lot of things. It may be why he left the team in the first place, not so much a factor now. Plus, it's hard to just take their coach at his word.

I don't know who's putting Michigan out there as a possibility. If it's coming from the player's side, great.

It's a wonderful end to the story, in part because of the ambiguity.  My view, without having given it deep analysis, is that the Judge is the devil incarnate, but the "devil" in turn is a symbol of the evil elements of human nature.  And the outhouse is literally a place where life's shit ends up.  The Kid's outhouse was pretty full, even though he was sometimes reluctant to commit evil.

With that in mind, here's my take.  The Kid has a life poorly spent, lays low for years and years, and still ends up confronted with evil (the nekked Judge) and the foul waste products of his life.  The Kid thought he had put his wretched past behind him, but in the end there was no avoiding all the evil he had done.

I thought that the Judge was the devil when he joins the Glanton Gang while sitting atop a rock in the middle of a barren desert with no apparent means of survival.  The devil appearing to offer to "help" an important character who is struggling and hungry in the desert is a theme some might recall from another really well-known story!

But who knows?  That's part of what makes the book so great.

...last year's runner-ups as a true freshman (1 start, 11(!) games) and started the first 8 games this year at RT for the champs.  Had a shoulder injury in/after Clemson's FSU game this year then sat out, between that and a personal issue.  Per Coach Swinney at TigerNet.com on Nov. 9 (not $):

“Good news and bad news on Fruh. The good news is that he's improving on his shoulder,” Swinney said. “His shoulder is much better. There are no little issues, but he's got a personal issues with him and his family right now that he's dealing with. That's all I can say on that. His mom and dad are here. I will say this; he's never failed a drug test. He's not in any trouble, no team trouble. You can't have a more model player than Jake Fruhmorgen. He's as committed a guy as I've ever been around, as hardworking as I've ever been around, talented. He's the model of what you'd want as a player. It has nothing to do with anything that he's done or anything like that.

“Sometimes you forget, he's a big, old good looking strong guy and is a very talented football player, but sometimes we all forget that they're still young people and young people from time to time have issues in their personal life come up that can kind of get them off center and rock their world. He's dealing with a personal issue that's between him and his family. We're going to try to help him as much as we can and love him through it..."

Sounds like a great guy, hope his personal issues are solved for the best, and love to see him help us and get a Michigan degree.
