If all top four win out I don't think there will be any changes in the order. We need Bama and Clemson to both lose to end up with a #1 vs #2 game.

I'm not saying it won't, just that it's not exactly something Michigan can control. Michigan and Ohio State could both win out and not have it be a #1 vs #2 game.

College football is crazy. Every year there are massive upsets, and very few teams go undefeated.
So much football yet to be played!

I was debating this yesterday too. Logically we should move up. But Clemson looked impressive against Louisville which also looked like a really good team. I don't expect them to fall too much.

How many turnovers total? Like 7? It was unbelievable to watch.
Efficient offenses and a high scoring game coming out of that is appalling. Has the ACC heard of defense?
October 2nd, 2016 at 2:42 PM ^
Nor should Michigan be given given credit for their own slop fest. I mean, there were 4 TOs in the Wisc-Mich game. And penalty flags galore. Not a whole lot cleaner than Lou-Clem.
October 2nd, 2016 at 4:29 PM ^
But how many times does a team beat a top 10 team and not move up in the rankings?

Big 12 is done. Baylor had the worst OOC schedule in the nation and if they go undefeated, its quite likely they wouldn't have one win against a team that is ranked at the end of the seaon
October 2nd, 2016 at 2:32 PM ^
on a walk-off FG!
October 2nd, 2016 at 3:37 PM ^
Big 12 stinks. Not a single decent defensive team in the entire conference.
Any team can have a sub-par game against an inferior opponent, but Baylor gave up 42 points and almost 500 yards against Iowa State - woof.

If they lose to MSU or iowa, but beat OSU, do they jump an undefeated Houston team? Thats what I'm thinking about

We should move up to #3 unless Clemson jumps us. If we hadn't just beaten Wisconsin (to match their win over Louisville) then I'd guess they'd jump us, but with FSU losing, beating Louisville doesn't look as impressive.
October 2nd, 2016 at 12:42 PM ^
And MSU just lost, so you could say the same thing about Wisconsin. Both Wisconsin and Louisville look really impressive. Clemson should jump us.
October 2nd, 2016 at 1:34 PM ^
True. But Wisconsin also beat LSU. That's two big wins, over Big Ten and SEC opponents. Louisville beat Charlotte, Syracuse, Marshall, and FSU (at home). That's not a great schedule, but it was used to justify their rankings jump for #19 to #3 before the clemson game. Wisconsin beat LSU (neutral site, but barely), Akron, GA state, and MSU (on the road) to get their #8 ranking. Granted, MSU lost to Iowa and Wisky, but LSU is 2-1 in the SEC so far, so Wisky's schedule is better in my epinion.

(That LSU team was hot garbage)
(although FSU is also hot garbage)

I agree that Wisconsin will lose 2 more games and end up as a fringe top 25 team. We were a real kicking game away from winning by 16 pints.

Oklahoma isn't great, but I wouldn't say they're a nobody either. And again, it was a total beatdown in Norman. HOWEVA, I do agree that in most people's eyes a win over Oklahoma still means more than a win over a Wisconsin that has shown themselves to be much more impressive than Oklahoma.

OSU's SOS is now worse than ours, but they have taken care of business. They won on the road at Oklahoma, and have not really been even threatened in a game yet. According to some advanced stats, you could make a case for them to be #1.
I think the strike against Michigan right now is we have not played a road game yet.
October 2nd, 2016 at 2:23 PM ^
Bama hasn't played a team with a winning record
October 2nd, 2016 at 2:41 PM ^
It's not absurd in the least, given what goes into polling: If Clemson jumps us, it will be because they were in a prime-time GameDay glamor matchup against a powerful offensive team led by an electric Heisman frontrunner in which Clemson had to stage a dramatic come-from-behind win, all against the background of coming up just short in last year's NC game against Alabama.
Meanwhile we were in a low-scoring daytime slugfest against a Wisconsin team that doesn't have any electric playmakers on offense and just plays strong defense. 14-7 doesn't raise eyebrows among pollsters accustomed to Playstation scores.
I'm not saying that any of this makes ultimate logical sense, but much of polling doesn't to begin with. Is a team that's beaten Northwestern, North Carolina Central, Georgia Southern, Illinois, and CMU really the 25th best team in the country, and better than Georgia, TCU, Texas, Maryland, Auburn, and VTech?
October 2nd, 2016 at 12:41 PM ^
rough for Louisville - they look as good as anybody and were a play away from winning at Clemson after a bad bad 1st half. Fun to watch and hope they get back into the picture.
October 2nd, 2016 at 12:46 PM ^
Louisville was way too sloppy with the ball last night. Lamar Jackson looked terrific, but they got 5 turnovers and still couldn't win. And most of those turnovers were pretty ugly.

Many of the media's so-called "power rankings" had them ahead of Michigan already, so the winner of LOU-Clemson was going to be #3, if not #2, this week.
Finishing the season in the Top 4 of the Playoff rankings is all that really matters.

It's hard to justify keeping Bama at #1 unless you use the "well, it's Bama" argument. OSU has looked better in all phases than Alabama, but I doubt the pollsters adjust accordingly. If we could generate some fireworks on offense we too would be vying for a #1 ranking...
1)OSU
2)Alabama
3)Clemson
4)Michigan
5)Washington
6) who cares at this point
