They didn't sharpen their swords back in the day? That seems...unlikely.
Anyway, I'm more than halfway through these comments and no one actually mentioned uniforms yet, so I'll put this here...
Those uniformz are...awesome actually. Tastefully done. Nothing over the top. Camo uniforms are the ugliest things ever.

Yes, in the middle of a battle they would say "stop for blade sharpening, everyone!", walk to the side of the field of death, and chat while sharpening their blades...

One of the worst punishments I've ever heard of was the oubliette, or forgotten chamber, used in medieval Europe. It was a shaft just wide enough for a person to stand in; they couldn't sit, kneel or turn around. Some weren't tall enough for them to stand up straight. If the claustrophia wasn't enough, the physical cramping must have been brutal. Prisoners would be put in there and left to slowly die.
