Oregon's new sports performance center for football is incredible
No surprise here, but Oregon's Marcus Mariota performance center is awesome. https://t.co/UuvCiwm6Pu

That looks more like a hype video for a new nike store than anything else. I mean, it is super shiny, but Seems like more style than substance.

... all that impressed, truthfully. Of course, I'm not a 17-year old potential recruit, either.

I would be afraid to sweat in there. Looks more like the set for a sci-fi film about the not-to-distant future than a place to work out.
I was waiting for the cyborgs to emerge.

I don't know about you but there's not too many Lexus cars I'd put in the same level as Ferrari & Rolls Royce

I'll see about 50 Lexuses on my drive home and I'll see a Rolls a few times a year. Where is this guy from that a Lexus is some amazing car? You can buy a really nice looking used one for $25K.

Need more specifics than that. How far out of the way? What's base compensation difference? What are the specific benefit differences? Which one has more potential for solid networking and experiences for opening up future career opportunities?

He is saying Oregon is offering you a Rolls, Michigan is offering you a Lexus.
August 25th, 2016 at 6:26 PM ^
The Lexus LFA would like to throw its hat in the ring. That is one hell of a supercar. I'd take that over just about every Ferrari and any Rolls.
August 25th, 2016 at 7:24 PM ^
just looked it up, it is bad ass (also $400K). I wouldn't take it over most Ferraris, and not over almost any Lamborghini.
Still, one doesnt tend to lump those brands together. poster could have said BMW, Benz, or Lexus to better prove the point. inferior but not enough to sway your decision.

$300K vs $50K vs. $300K

Do they workout there or is it a shrine? I didn't see one freaking squat rack!
August 25th, 2016 at 4:39 PM ^
They have the best facilities in the NCAA and everything flashy a recruit could want/imagine. Yet still they're unable to recruit at an elite level because of how large and how far the pacfic northwest is. It kind of sucks to be them, to be honest.
August 25th, 2016 at 6:24 PM ^
Oregon recruits just fine. They score low on the rankings because their recruiting strategy is based on finding players that fit their system and the ranking sites don't value those players as much.
August 25th, 2016 at 4:46 PM ^
What was I supposed to get from that video? Something new with a green color scheme opened? I did not see a single thing that made we say wow, other than Marcus Mariotta won some awards. And yet, their QB recruiting seems to be lacking since they have had to turn to grad transfers this year and last.

Anybody know if the rest of the campus is like that? or just these athletic buildings? It would be pretty unfair if the rest of campus can't enjoy amenities like that.
August 25th, 2016 at 5:28 PM ^
It's a nice campus and a crunchy, fun little town, but their regular buildings and facilities are just that - regular. There's a pretty stark contrast between the flashy new Knight-built athletic facilities and the rest of the campus.
Closest comparison at UM would be the way Ross stands out on UM's campus - the rest of campus is nice, but Ross is newer and flashier.
To me, it's a bit creepy just how much influence Knight has; he pretty much has carte blanche to build whatever the hell he wants.
August 25th, 2016 at 4:50 PM ^
An incredibly dumb name for the place.
August 25th, 2016 at 4:51 PM ^
I know UM and all our peers (Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oregon, etc) will do this, or already do, as its an arms race. Additionally, we have the money, as UM fans (and the fans for about 30 other programs) seemingly have bottomless amounts to give to make sure little to no general fund dollars go to it.
But I still find it ridiculous. The Power 5 schools should break into their own conference, where they can spend $100 million-plus to compete with each other (at least until the TV money gravy train starts reversing in 5-10 years), and the other 60-70 schools need to GTFO of D1-A and stop trying to "compete" with them. I'm looking at you, EMU, WMU, CMU, etc.
August 25th, 2016 at 4:51 PM ^
Just seems odd to have a building already named after someone that played there like 2 years ago? I know he won a Heisman but geez wait 5 more minutes or something.
August 25th, 2016 at 6:13 PM ^
August 25th, 2016 at 6:34 PM ^
He seems like a good sensible guy, but never meet your heroes and wait to name something after someone until they are dead or close to it. The chance for it to go wrong and to be a disaster are definitely non-zero.

Here's the blurb from GoDucks.com - LINK
The idea behind it would apparently be this:
"We focused on creating a space that would allow us to objectively measure a student-athlete's development and readiness," said UO director of athletic medicine Dr. Greg Skaggs, who was a part of two fact-finding trips to research the MMSPC construction, including one that took him to NASA as well as Australia. "This data will give us the best opportunity to individualize training to maximize performance and prevent injury.

I don't like the new Sportz Performanze Zenter. Why mess with the old design, it works. Sure, the recruits migth like it, but I won't be buying any new Sportz Performanze Zenter until they bring back the old design.

Almost shrine-like to Mariota. Also, not very practical. Nice and shiny, though.
