ESPN Fluff: something "different" about Harbaugh at Big Ten Media Days this year
This is one of the fluffiest of fluff pieces, but ESPN's Brian Bennett is at the Big Ten Media Days, and has noted that there is "something different" about Harbaugh's demeanor at Big Ten Media Days this year.
At this same event last year, Harbaugh was evasive and even difficult at times during his interview sessions. He refused to give many specific answers to the media horde looking to lap up the story of his return to college football. On Monday, though, he was playful and animated, willing to talk at length about his team and other issues.
Money quote (emphasis mine):
"We have big hopes," Harbaugh said. "We've got big dreams. We've got lofty goals. And all those are achievable."
There are also a couple good tidbits from Jourdan Lewis. It's pretty clear that Harbaugh has the team feeling confident going into this year, and they truly believe they can win it all. Hopefully, that confidence translates to results.
Is Bennett reading into something that isn't there, or does Harbaugh feel like we have a shot to win it all this year? Perhaps a bit of both.
Next year we go for the big one.
I think he meant it and is confident he has the team to do it.
Good God this is so premature. We haven't even beaten our biggest rivals yet! We have to beat OSU and MSU. And after we beat them we need to beat our BIGGEST B1G rival, Rutgers!! For crying out loud!!
So if I am tracking your perspective, we should not be discussing winning it all until we beat every team? Then, and only then, we can have your permission to discuss winning it all? Okay. I think I have it.
Here's the thing, we are fans with hopes and lofty goals ourselves. We have trained since 1997 to be hopeful that our goal of our favorite team winning it all comes to fruition. We have put in lots of effort, time, money and heart into this process. Get the fuck out if you think we are not going all in at some point. Now feels as close as we have been since the late 90's. Stop asking for rational fans.
Uh...I thought he was serious for a second too, but I read his whole post, and he talks about Rutgers being our biggest rival...so...pretty sure for ONCE on this board the </s> wasn't needed.
But apparently not.
Yes, quit crying out loud Salinger over enthusiasm for the upcoming season. The "we haven't beat....." is a tired Negative Nancy rote response. Be cheerful that Coach Harbaugh is conveying an expectation of excellence and that he's enthused about it.
There were so many unknowns in year one. I am sure he knows exactly what he has to work with. Lewis, Butt, and Darboh did a great job of descring Jim. Oh, and Harbaugh has confirmed that he will take a deep dive in the submarine again. Only coming up once or twice for the first two to three weeks of fall camp.
Harbaugh would've been a bad ass spy. I can just picture him getting captured by the Russians or something and refusing to talk no matter what they did to him.
but they would soon find themselves under the captivity of Harbaugh, Sargaent York style.
Normally, this would annoy me, but I trust Harbaugh and however he wants to handle it is fine with me.
there's a that's what she said joke in there somewhere.
Yo! You can do better than that chincy-ass tourist boat. This is how JH will surface in Fall camp:
I've always wondered if the crew are strapped down inside when this happens? Not that it happens all the time but because it looks like it'd be one hell of a ride coming up like that. Guys be knocking heads at their launch stations!!
Nope, no straps. The people driving wear seat belts, but that's all. The rest of us just tried to find a place to sit, or something to hold onto, on the way up - usually with a 20-25° angle. There was a momentary weightless feeling up in the bow section, when the bow stopped going up and started its decent back to the water, though. That was fun...
Thanks for serving in one of those things. Seriously.
But, I just started eating lunch when I read your very, very descriptive comment. Those Doritos ain't sitting so good any more!
Nicely done!
The Artic Ocean is a very cool place to go (no pun intended!). It has lakes, rivers, streams, and shallow spots all over the ice cap surface. And its quiet. Very, very quiet. Only noise is the wind, and the occasional cracking ice...
+1
Yeah it's time....
is this a real headline? That's amazing.
It all goes to hell when the editor takes the day off, doesn't it?
Someone fell asleep at the wheel.
I thought linking and posting freep articles was frowned upon in this establishment.
what she said?

USS Michigan (SSGN-737) update: The crew of the USS Michigan have the flag deployed for Team 137 and JH and it should be delivered by the end of August. Just in time for the fiirst game. The crew will also be sending their Command ball cap, SSGN-737 unit patches (Dolphins), and Navy SEAL Special Warfare patches.
Personally, I'm not fond of the fact that the USS Michigan is an Ohio class ship. It should be the other way around. Some jackass at the DOD must have gone to OSU.
But it's pretty awesome for them to fly our flag.
I had better not type any official emails until I get my coffee. Maybe the Moms can edit that for me.
We have the Gerald Ford class carriers debuting soon, and the Michigan has close ties with the university. The Navy loves engineers from U of M!!

Nice pull from the Skipjack archive! That's an old boat, though. I'd say Harbaugh's version looks more like this...
Nothing can touch the USS Seawolf...
The one thing I don't mind from ESPN is occasional Michigan fluffing....
