Many states have teams that dominate in state recruiting by default. I'm personally more interested in winning the 5 star Georgia recruits away from the SEC
Also i think at Wisc/Pedo St and vs Florida will be major hurdles before then and have to win at least 2 of them to have the Ohio game mean much
I thought there'd be a trounce last year but tickets never rose much above $100 even with UM unbeaten
I doubt UM will have as dominant a team this year and this isn't Bobby Williams coaching. Staee will have a terrible season but will make a respectable loss of it against its rival
Yeah, they come across as complete tools. Conference priide is the dumbest thing ever, because there's few games between the conferences that you can prove which is better in a given year. You'd need something like the ACC challenge in basketball, at least
Well after 2 in a row at Staee, Rutgers and Maryland, and Pedo St, and now homer ref spotgate, i loathe this conference and root against any other team. But even if none of that occured, i could never wish Ohio well. It's like down south they don't know what a rivalry is and they're still bitter about the civil war or something
OTOH i don't know how much sympathy to have for someone who once used his twitter to behave as a complete monster and then mocked others on this very blog for "getting upset at what someone said on the internet"
The internet is entirely the wrong place to be if struggling with depression. It's a mood disorder i mean. Twitter can be basically just a modern diary that is shared so that might not be a "major change," but message boards and comment sections have to go. Basically any dialogue that invites hater trolls or even light ribbing
The way to deal with it is to tell people in your LIFE who might actually care enough to be respectful of your struggle. That isn't to be found on a damn blog
There's basically 4 key games to the season and i agree that Florida is the easiest. If lose that one, we should see 8-4 at best, in theory. The only argument against it is it's the opener and it's a young team, similar to Ohio losing to Va Tech a few years ago
It wouldn't benefit anything. It would be used to reneg on scheduling deals like Ark/UW, or to pay fired coaches who should never have been hired in the first place. Or for a fat AD raise or admins we don't need. You really need to learn about how bloated "non profits" work
2nd, most of us are not whores and if there ever was a legitimately dire situation that required this, do not ever sell out to a company that beats its own customers. Talk about making a deal with the devil...
Ohio's schedule that year was ass except for a close win over Staee. By the time of the playoff they were no longer a young team. UM to get there will have 3 top 15 matches, 2 on the road, aside from Florida
It's not just that either, but how rare it is to have a chance to beat SEC team
I actually the must win is against Florida. Lose that and the entire season's a wash most likely. Hard to imagine winning at Wisconsin or vs Pedo St and Ohio if that happens
If you've ever been around the tri-state area, it's really indisputably the best place to live. Growing up I felt like Maximus - "I've seen much of the state, it is cold and dark. Ann Arbor is the light"
Other places like Traverse City are decent in the summer only
Since the great recession, many places have crumbled, while A2 economy remains mostly insular. Mid-sized college towns with all that federal $ coming in logically would be at the top of the list
It's pretty damn good odds that NW will be worse than Wisconsin over any 4 year stretch. One has facilities and history and the other plays at a high school field
The problem i have with 14, especially when it means adding trash like rutgers, is not only do we play Nebraska once in 4 years so it's like why i did get excited when they were added again? But it creates massive imbalance from year to year and over time. This is a big reason Pedo St didn't make the playoff despite being 'conference champion'
It's evident to me that football - and here it's no different - only cares about itself and enriching itself and not about the outside world, even innocent kids, in the least
Too bad the majority aren't motivated by dismay at what the Paternos have done, to vote for someone else. It's on all of them, get the government they deserve
I was calling it Sandusky State from the first week the scandal broke, because i knew football is a religion there and they would handle it precisely in the way they have. What i am shocked and horrified at is how pitifully the rest of college football and the presidents of the conference have responded. They should have been kicked out long ago and the list of reasons keeps growing
I disagree with (2) strongly. It's largely the driving force behind the craptacular schedules. I don't give a damn about $ for non profits. Stop building $10 mil golf clubhouses at a place that's too cold to play golf 2/3 of the year
The other two are decent. Although the BCS was despised, it was a stepping stone to the playoff
They used to have this policy that if you were caught re-selling you'd be banned. Not sure if that ever happened, but now they flat out encourage it partnering with stubhub. It's just a $ making scheme any more
No way, people coming in adds to the college atmosphere greatly. Also in response they limited of tickets UM gets for road games to just parents, and in the era of stubhub this policy would not do anything to dent the red wave when Nebraska and Ohio visit
Consider that the MAC has about the same...I think it's clear evidence both that the Texas conference is dying and that the P5 is just a cartel. No idea how they can justify 1 loss Oklahoma in the playoff but not Western
Honestly it will take something more than even firing the coaches to make a real difference. I have a hunch if this was happening at an Ivy they would shut down the football program. It's by and large athletics that is behind so much of the crime in general and certainly rapes on campuses
i don't consider anyone retired until they can draw SS/medicare, so what, 65? Anyone else no matter how wealthy is just unemployed / a bum. I certainly don't use the term retired on a damn 23 year old who decided to *quit* football. This only reveals to me how plainly it's not a real job
By that logic UM didn't have a strong schedule last year either since it too had Rutgers
Conference vs NC doesn't mean shit, SoS is about teams. Illinois, Rutgers, Indiana, Hawaii...uh i forget the other paycheck opponent, MSU was every bit as awful as UW's schedule
If it's 2 from the same conference that's the concern, losing to UW will mean nothing. We'd have to beat Ohio (technically and not just spotgate) whether UW is on the schedule or not
Right, UW would be left with 0 P5 opponents just like Arkansas and we won't be able to schedule anyone worth a damn going forward. Also we'll have no room to complain if say Texas or OU cancel on us
They don't want 2 teams from the same conference is all. Plus PSU got destroyed in one of their losses, had a *2nd loss*, and actually by the end, UW's schedule wasn't that awful
Sounding a lot like Gordon Gee "I hope he doesn't fire me"
Granted it's more pathetic for a college president to say that, but who is supposed to be the boss here? And it's definitely ok to criticize Harbaugh when he's wrong. He can take the team halfway across the world for a week but not to Seattle for a day?
Um poor analogies. The network fixing his mistake over night games is not to his credit and canceling UW can't possibly lead to anything except a paycheck game you'll forget 5 minutes into your walk back to the car in the 3rd quarter
Don't see the glory in making the playoff if it's some cheap path like Bama facing 3 cupcakes + Vandy
I'm assuming that year we'll have 2 cupcakes + Rutgers + Indiana so it's damn pathetic
This is also about $ i'm sure. More home games = more PSL, even though people should be willing to pay a lot more for a top 5 matchup than two blowouts against directionals

Everyone i know with cable just DVRs everything and fast forwards commercials
Everyone i know without it just pilfers what they want and tabs out if it's a live event at commercial

Last year's team still had remnants of Hoke in key positions. Most of the Harbaugh recruits were too young, especially on OL

A win though and yeah, 6-0 start

Yeah, there's no trap game like (A)Iowa last year that i can see. To go 8-4 would be disastrous and 10-2 just average
Ohio's schedule that year was ass except for a close win over Staee. By the time of the playoff they were no longer a young team. UM to get there will have 3 top 15 matches, 2 on the road, aside from Florida

That would actually stregthen the victim angle, that he failed the test due to rec drugs rather than PEDs

Honestly all he'll be remembered for there is recruiting the gay kid
Which is why we should've gotten Miles instead, could've saved us the disgraces of 2007-2009 and from there, who knows
It should've been obvious his 'accomplishment' was inflated by outside forces
It's evident to me that football - and here it's no different - only cares about itself and enriching itself and not about the outside world, even innocent kids, in the least

I can never root for any team in this conference
2) Brady
3)
1) Long
2) Brady
3) Woodson
4) Braylon Edwards
5) Mike Hart
sounds a lot like Manuel
In the OT they're both badass in their own way
The Mouse's empire and rebels...not so much
Of course Iowa's response is they're disappointed at the verdict and not the way their scum AD behaved
Yeah and in return we won't play at Nebraska or Iowa again
Tolerable home schedule in 2019. Still would've preferred Arkansas obviously
Yeah i'm calling bullshit. Rutgers probably doesn't have 3% support on its own campus, let alone an international hub like NYC
I disagree with (2) strongly. It's largely the driving force behind the craptacular schedules. I don't give a damn about $ for non profits. Stop building $10 mil golf clubhouses at a place that's too cold to play golf 2/3 of the year

And right after their president's (non) apology
I made a thread with suggestions 2 years ago:
Have to show alumni ID to get in the stadium
But they don't care about anything except maximizing profit so

I don't think we should talk, a jock is a jock and i've never seen players from the pro pipeline sports in class, except for midterms/final

Cool pic but i wonder how much of what was going on the Pope actually understood...like what is that helmet built for and who is this man?
By that logic UM didn't have a strong schedule last year either since it too had Rutgers
Conference vs NC doesn't mean shit, SoS is about teams. Illinois, Rutgers, Indiana, Hawaii...uh i forget the other paycheck opponent, MSU was every bit as awful as UW's schedule
Maybe you should sue then for false advertising (seriously wouldn't blame you)
If it's 2 from the same conference that's the concern, losing to UW will mean nothing. We'd have to beat Ohio (technically and not just spotgate) whether UW is on the schedule or not
To win a national title you gotta beat teams like Washington and then some
The odds that this game or any other would cost us the national title are slim and none
'No i'd respect them for trying
A phony 5-0 team *always* collapses badly. A playoff contender will have a shot regardless who is scheduled week one.
Sounding a lot like Gordon Gee "I hope he doesn't fire me"

You'd like to think they'd just charge $50 less and get their shit together beforehand
Ironically we chickened out of the kickoff classic (or whatever it was called) against Va Tech because Va Tech was suddenly good with Vick
Now we're chickening out to play Va Tech instead
