...and not compared to the "thank you" last contract that kobe got from the Lakers.
Wade has a recent history of injuries and burning out in the playoffs. He is not a $20 million a year player anymore. If he was in his prime right now, he would arguably be worth $35-40 million a year, but he's not. He is a warrior, but his body has appeared to age in dog years recently and he is too near his expiration date.
The Bulls are a perfect fit. He's home and he won't have to worry about going far enough in the playoffs to hit his "wall." I hope he enjoys his "retirement contract." His coach and GM can rationalize that his "veteran leadership" compensates for his impending statistical decline.
I believe Wade wanted 50 million, since he gave up money for Lebron and Bosh to join. Kind of surprised Riley didn't give it to him.
47 million and being back home with his 2 sons ain't a shabby way to ride off into the sunset either.
Rumor has it the Nuggets offered the $50MM no questions asked.
in pure gold (nuggets from denver)
Holy Moly! I get it now!
Too obvious. I hear the nuggets offered him payment in freshly minted SA Krugerrands.
He's basically Fred Sanford at this point in his career (warning outrageously massive overstatement alert - take it as "downside" instead).
40 million dollars for 2 years is just ridiculous. I would drink the water that's left over when washing out my cats' litter box for 5 million.

Pat Riley saw how fast the Lakers fell off the radar when they invested everything they had into Kobe's last contract....
Smart move by Pat for not budging. One step back, 2 steps forwards.
multiples steps of mourning, perhaps?
Without Darko, there's no Sheed. No Sheed means likely no championship.
I assumed he would only leave for a team offering a 3rd year.
One one hand it's odd because they're replacing the oft injured Rose with DWade. On the other, he was the 4th most efficient SG in the league last year (I think I saw that stat earlier today on r/NBA).

which is necessary for Hoiberg's offense to function. Butler, Wade and Rondo aren't good 3 pt shooter especially Wade and Rondo.
As a Heat fan, im sad. I was hoping he would retire in Miami :(
Ha Yes a lot of "Heat Nation" left when Lebron left, but not me (I'm from South FL). I've always thought it was Wades team even with Lebron on it. Although i will forever be a Lebron fan since he gave us 2 titles in 4 years, that was fun.
Get a clue man. The Heat are and have been a proud franchise with a strong fanbase. One clip of fans leaving a game early doesn't change that. Miami has been top 5 in local TV ratings in both seasons since LeBron left.
Cleveland had a much bigger crater (for good reason, but still true) than the Heat did in local interest after his departure. I don't know what city you're from, but maybe don't be as ignorant before commenting on a fanbase next time.

Wasn't Wade accused of sabotaging Bulls deal with LBJ a few years ago?
Eh. If he has to leave Miami, Chicago is a good choice for him personally. Not clear to me that the Bulls are going anywhere with or without him. This gets attention because he has been a great player, I guess, but he isn't going to be the key difference-maker on any team that is competitive for a title.
I recall that he still played with a fair amount of fire this year, but an old guy with very old legs and no 3-point shot does not project to have much of a career left. It's not hard at all to see him losing a step to the basket due to age or another injury, and he doesn't have much to offer if that goes away at this point. Nothing wrong with him, just the effects of age.
Chicago is thirsty for B-ball too.
It's his hometown. He will get such a welcoming.
It may be a dumb move by the Bulls but it isn't for Wade. He sacrificed some money to bring those rings to Miami and he probably saw the offer they made as a slap in the face by Riley. In order to save face at all he had to take another offer. Since there wasn't going to be a championship either way, going back home to Chicago for a couple years and being around his family seems a pretty solid choice to me.
Wade has some miles left. He got worn down in that 4yr run with Bron when they went to the finals every year, anyone other than Lebron would. A few summers off should be just what he needs, playing with Rondo will help a lot too.
Ok, I'm not up to date on the Bulls roster, but who is going to shoot 3s for them? Eventually the 24-second clock runs out and you have to stop drive-and-kicking and actually shoot. And neither Wade nor Rondo are doing that from anywhere distant. Butler only shoots about 30%. What am I missing?
