OT: What is wrong with Connor Cook?

Submitted by massblue on

There is a lengthy article about Connor Cook.  I thought he was a very good college QB, but it seems his personality is going to cost him dearly.

One person says

“There’s just something put-offish about him,” an offensive coordinator for a third team said. “It appears to me – I could be dead wrong – but he’d be a guy that, when he got in the locker room, they’d try to eat him up and spit him out.”

Ryan Leaf was an all time head case.  Comparing someone to him is like comparing someone to Hitler; they might be bad, but they will certainly fall short of the comparison.

Jeff George seems like the more typical talented locker room dud that could never turn his considerable skills into consistent winning on the field.  "Leadership is overrated" he once said.

With how he treated Archie Griffin at the B1G championship game. I know he apologized. You just don't act like that in a setting like that if you have class. Don't care how excited he was.

Does CBS Sports have a category, "Good Enough QB U"? I'd say msu could be a contender here. Theyve produced a lot of qbs who are good enough to hang around the league maybe even start a few games after the starter gets hurt, or coaches just say, eh, could be worse...: Stanton, Hoyer, Cousins, and now Conner Cook. Welcome to the U!

This might not go over well, but is it possible that his biggest problem is that he's immature? He did just turn 23...

I'm sure everyone who posted on the message board was very mature by that age.

Of course that's the reason, and of course I am personally very happy that nobody was following me around with a camera and a microphone during college. The thing is that his peers aren't making the same mistakes. So not only is he immature on an absolute scale, but even when compared to other 21-23 year olds. If he can't even pull his shit together for an interview, that's particularly disturbing. Remember interviewing at that age? I know I did my level best to sound like an intelligent and mature person. These people are asking why NOT make him a millionaire, and he appears to be giving them reason.

He has a rep among the MSU student base as being a BMOC asshole. Combined with the fact that his accuracy is very sporadic, it's very reasonable to be concerned about drafting him to be your starter. It just makes me laugh how angry and defensive the MSU twittersphere gets over real concerns.

Time to shut those bastards up. If Michigan loses to Staee again this season I am not renewing my season tickets.

i saw of Cook was right after they won the Rose Bowl.   I figured his dickishness that night could be attributed to the emotions of just accomplishing the biggest win of his life. Future interviews ruled that out however.  Some people are just dicks by nature.

I'm not a Connor Cook fan, but if James Winston can go #1 overall with all his issues, then I have hard time believing Cook's going to fall too far just because he's a dick and kinda "off". Some team will take him early in the first.
