Watched the Massillon documentary on Netflix last night. It was about the 1999 team I believe. My jaw almost hit the floor when it was revealed that Massillon, across-the-board, "red-shirted" or held back the entire football team for a year after they would complete 8th grade. I'll just go out on a limb and assume that current day media scrutiny has ending that practice. Can anyone confirm this? Could not believe it! Your entire team is on average a year older than your competition, and you beat yor chest after victories and championships? Lame!

Gotta disagree. I believe traditional powers in particular benefit by playing in large away game markets. The local stud recruits get a easy trip to check out the program. Just because our recruiting is good now doesn't mean it can't get even better through more exposure.

I'm just saying, if I'm a traditional power like Nebraska, I'd be a little upset that UofM and OSU get a whole bunch of extra exposure in large east coast markets due to Big Ten scheduling.

Geez.....Just glad we're in the East. Teams in the West will only get regular exposure in Chicago, as far as dense recruiting hotbeds go. Seems like the alignment heavily favors East teams from a recruiting standpoint...which....Yea for us!!! Wonder if Nebraska is pissed?

I got one in high school. Learned my lesson and didn't get one in college. Waist of money IMO.

Following China left London with little hope for a memorable opening ceremony. I for one was not impressed with the queen/helicopter thing...not sure why everyone gushed over that....I guess old ladies get automatic points though.. Wondering why if the queen is so "with it" she can't muster up something resembling a slight smile from time to time. Also, the married couple and their house that played background for the musical hits from the past....very dumb and confusing.

agree about #72......"goober" looks like he has a helmet on for the first time in his life.

Can I assume their will be more seats or bleachers going into the open areas along both sidelines? Maybe the bleachers are pushed in , although that seems kind of high schoolish.

Two and a Half Men is one of the only shows that can make me really laugh. Big Bang Theory......I'm just amazed it made it through its first season. Still can't believe it is still on the air.

I was the under the impression that Carr was pissed he wasn't able to name his own successor. (even though I have no idea who that would have been) I thought that was one reason why he gave RR the cold shoulder. Ideas?
|3 years 50 weeks ago||Yeah, you would have thought||
Yeah, you would have thought someone in the athletic administration would have started planning for a successor to Carr at least 3 or 4 years before he retired. Jim Harbaugh, a great former player and leader in your program, with 15 years experience as a pro QB, applies for the QB coach position and is turned down. WTF. Someone at the point, the AD, Carr or even Bo should have had the foresight to take advantage of that opportunity.
|3 years 50 weeks ago||I think the bigger problem is||
I think the bigger problem is that no one in the administration or staff had the brains to think "hmmm, a great former player/leader of our program, who was in the NFL for 15 years, wants to get into coaching really badly, maybe we should take advantage of this".
|3 years 50 weeks ago||the administration and Carr||
I don't mean for this to come off as a "I told you so" type of thing, but rather a way for me to vent my frustrations with the administration. I've been an admirer of Harbaugh since his playing days at Michigan and dreamed of him coaching UofM since the day I read the newspaper snippet announcing his hiring as head coach at U. San Diego. Little did I know that shortly before that Carr had turned Harbaugh down for the Michigan QB coaching position. Anyway, even in his time at USD, the Michigan athletic administration should have been following his progress closely. But no, nobody had the foresight to think about getting a candidate in place to be groomed as Lloyd's successor. Even three years ago after Lloyd stepped down, some of us already had a real belief that Harbaugh was turning into a great coach and lobbied for his hiring at UofM. But no, the administration again lacked this foresight. Just think, if Carr had hired Harbaugh, or Martin had brought him in three years ago, it very well might be us that just won a BCS bowl and was sitting pretty for next year. Maybe Harbaugh still would have just accepted the 49ers offer, but at least we would be handing a top notch program off to the likes of Hoke and not be starting over from square one. Thanks Carr. Thanks Martin. Thanks Brandon. (who I believe was on the search commitee that hired RR) Give me an administration with some foresight, especially when it was right in front of their noses. Damn!

I was concerned when I realized RR was coming back for a third season. Season two showed me all I needed to know. I had been assuming since this year's Penn St. game that Brandon was working the back channels lining up his next coach..... boy was I wrong.
|4 years 2 weeks ago||Hey blowhard, the hardass||
Hey blowhard, the hardass team I imagine doesn't let Wisconsin run the ball down their throats 33 out of 34 plays. Yeah, thats real hardass football. Apparently RR's hardass ways didn't rub off on the defense. And dropping the F-bomb just makes you sound like a teenager.
|4 years 2 weeks ago||"just because rooting for a||
"just because rooting for a guy like Meyer or Saban doesn't seem like very much fun. "
Fun? Okay, lets go get carrot-top to be our coach, that would be fun. As for me, I think a hard-ass type coach whose attitude rubs off on his players would be fun.
|4 years 2 weeks ago||"Apparently, the best thing||
"Apparently, the best thing you could do as a new coach is lose all of your games that first year, then you can trumpet about improvement for the next four years."
Thank you! Couldn't have said it better myself. This improvement argument by RR supporters is ridiculous. If you have followed football for awhile, you really don't need statistics to tell you whats going on. Its all right there on the field. The product hasn't been good and it's not getting much better. Parts of it have even gotten worse. RR could've gone 4-8 this year, but if he was doing so while building on a lights-out sophomore and freshman class that showed true ability, toughness, and potential, I'd be in favor of keeping RR. I see none of that. (using 2 or 3 players as counter examples does not impress)
|4 years 3 weeks ago||I'm watching the Lions again!||
Thanks to guys like Suh and VandenBosch , I am watching the Lions even with their 2-10 record. I've largely tuned them out since Barry retired, or I should say, I tuned out each year after 3 or 4 games when it became obvious they were still soft in the trenches. I'm liking this team and the attitude the D-line brings.

Ah yes, Wisconsin went 3-5 in the Big Ten that year.

A lot of people think the defense has gotten worse each year under RR. Why else would Brandon be checking out other coach(es)? Your argument died with the Wisconsin and Ohio St. beat downs.
|4 years 3 weeks ago||Even if he is fired, he walks||
Even if he is fired, he walks away with more $ than most of will sniff in our 40+ years of the daily grind. No doubt that coaching a major college team is big time stress and responsibility, buy I won't shed a tear for RR or any other multi-millionaire associated with big time college or pro sports.
|4 years 3 weeks ago||First of all, the term "New||
First of all, the term "New Years Day bowl" has been greatly watered down over the last decade or so. Back in the day when it really meant something, you would seldom see even a 3 loss team participating. Maybe RR has a BCS bowl bonus. If Michigan gives him a bonus for reaching just any bowl, they are crazy. Afterall, all you have to do is go 6-6, and 3 or 4 of those wins are basically gimmees.

Just because people were predicting 7-5 doesn't mean it was considered acceptable,

I wonder if most of the anti-Harbaugh crowd are too young to have watched Harbaugh play at Michigan? If you saw him play here its hard to understand how anyone could be against him coming back. He might be an SOB but he would be our SOB and fans would love that about him sooner rather than later.

Yes, worried what we could be with Harbaugh as our coach.
|4 years 4 weeks ago||Well, RR did lose to||
Well, RR did lose to toledo...a poor team even by MAC standards. Appy state was a much better team than Toledo, unless you're delusional. That '07 Michigan team did get stronger as the year went on, and as was noted, beat Florida in the bowl. If RR's teams got stronger as the year went on, his job wouldn't be on the line. Instead his teams get banged up and weaker in the second half of the season. I think if DB can get JH then RR is gone regardless of the outcome Saturday. If Harbaugh won't come, RR just may come back.

Likewise, I could dissect the pile of crap response the author of this thread composed. Trashing someone else's opinion with so called facts based on your own opinions don't prove anything. But, it is Thanksgiving Day, and thankfully I have better things to do. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

The author of this thread makes such dumbass statements that I assume he is a troll trying to stir things ups.
"A National Championship is all that really counts." Yea, right. So every team except the national champion considers it a failed season? Your stupidity shines brightly.
