Crystal Bowl Outlook - Holiday Bowl: Michigan vs. Washington or Stanford?

Submitted by markusr2007 on

I can think of a lot of worse places than San Diego, California in late December.

What do you guys think?

Of course, I've heard of Arizona too as a potential opponent. Awkward. But fun.

Personally I like the notion of Michigan vs. PAC-12 opponent.

I'm not too excited about another match up with Mississippi State though in the Foster Farms Sausage and Hotdog Excrement bowl.

Oh well. Maybe this time Michigan will be designated the home team and wear it's home blues?

God I hope it's not Arizona. That would be like App St number two. We either win and get basically no satisfaction from it, or we lose and are embarrassed by never ending stories about richrod's revenge all summer.

In light of the way this season has progressed, I wouldn't exactly mind a matchup with Stanford in San Diego. Plus it's my birthday eve, so the drinks will be flowing. (I still remember crying as a tween when we lost to Robbie Bosco & Co. in '84, cementing the national title for a grossly overrated BYU team. Ugh. Bo's worst team, yet we still almost pulled off a great upset to impact the MNC.)

either way. also would be a fun bowl to watch. depending on quarterback health, I'd like our chances against Stanford. But that's premature as they still play Notre Dame, and possibly win that game.

I'm holding out hope we'll get into the Music City Bowl. I know it's not a great bowl, but I live in Nashville and would love the chance to see the team down here.

I'd prefer not to have a bowl game on Dec. 28 like the Holiday Bowl is. I'd rather get one of the same old-same old New Year's Day games in either the Outback Bowl or Citrus Bowl. It's a better slot when more eyes are in front of the TV. Both of those games have the Big Ten ties as well.

that late December in San Diego is always beautiful, usually.

Once in a great while we get rain that time of year.

And yes I would be at that game!

My wish for the rest of the season is we win tomorrow and the bowl game to go 10-3 while OSU loses to us, Wisc and the bowl game to go 9-5, how glorious would that be?

We can't control where RichRod ended up being hired. I would rather the team play out West than Florida, for no other reason than diversity of bowl matchups. But if you are trying to sell tickets tp an exhibition game, you want to create some marketing drama, which means if the team does go to the Holiday Bowl, the sponsors will seek a Harbaugh or Michigan-related connection to our oppponent. So, it will be Stanford or Arizona.

These all sound fine to me. I swear these days people just look fopr stuff to be unhappy about. None of you would take joy in kicking Arizonas but? I think Don Browns defense is perfect for that kind of team and would love to play them.

Even though it should be called the "Foster Factory Farm" bowl. But still, it's walking distance from my house, and easier to say than the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl.

That's San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl. Say the name.

Stanford would be a great storyline but probably an ugly game. Washington would be a more entertaining game, I think, just because Washington is a more robust team.

but  playing PAC12 teams on the West coast has not been kind to the maize & blue.  Still have nightmares of the late 70's....3 straight Rose Bowl losses.  Charles White, Warren Moon.  As hope was dying late in the 4th quarter each time, my mom would yell  "Get to bed!  Christmas vacation is over and school starts up again tomorrow!"

Arizona, yes please. U Dubb or Stanford, no thanks.

If we lose to Stanford, which (even with BP in there) is a 50/50 proposition imo, we'll never hear the end of that either. As far as Washington goes, I dont love that matchup for us. That Arizona offense is gimmicky and possibly soft.

I feel like Brown and our d may just beat up on them and our offense may find some much needed confidence. We can run the ball on Arizona. Washington? Idk , a bit I suppose. Stanford? Probably, but that will be a wacky one. We don't do well in wacky ones.

A bowl game with the opponent having a .500 record. Good chance of winning, not so much as one with a winning record.

other than the fact that it isn't ours...ours is a Don Brown defense...we'd be fine against Arizona and RR would throw up the usual garbage/dignity points after the game is decided.
