Crystal Bowl Outlook - Holiday Bowl: Michigan vs. Washington or Stanford?
I can think of a lot of worse places than San Diego, California in late December.
What do you guys think?
Of course, I've heard of Arizona too as a potential opponent. Awkward. But fun.
Personally I like the notion of Michigan vs. PAC-12 opponent.
I'm not too excited about another match up with Mississippi State though in the Foster Farms Sausage and Hotdog Excrement bowl.
Oh well. Maybe this time Michigan will be designated the home team and wear it's home blues?

God I hope it's not Arizona. That would be like App St number two. We either win and get basically no satisfaction from it, or we lose and are embarrassed by never ending stories about richrod's revenge all summer.

How does his username have anything to do with his post?

After Arizona BBall presented a game ball to RR after they beat UM I developed a desire for revenge.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:25 PM ^
I'll watch the bowl game wherever it might fall and whoever we might play, but the only reason I really would prefer that it is not Arizona is that I really do not want to attempt to moderate the blog's rendition of a "No Win Scenario" when it comes to in-game discussion.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:28 PM ^
Didn’t RichRod say that he took the job at Arizona on the condition that the AD schedules a series against us?
November 24th, 2017 at 4:59 PM ^
because we don't do well against good QB's. Arizona has one hell of a QB.
November 24th, 2017 at 5:57 PM ^
I’d consider a bowl win over a Pac-12 team pretty satisfactory. Doesn’t matter whom the coach is.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:05 PM ^
I'd rather not face either of those teams. But, a win against either would be huge for recruiting.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:09 PM ^
I think we match up well with both Stanford and Wazzou and would win by 10+, especially with how much a young team can improve during bowl practices.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:30 PM ^
A bowl game against Stanford would suck watching KJ Costello throw against us when he should be a Michigan QB.
Damn it Hoke.
November 24th, 2017 at 7:38 PM ^
It'll be alright. We have O'Korn.
/dies
November 24th, 2017 at 6:03 PM ^
Wazzou won't get picked over UW or Stanford, especially since they were in the Holiday Bowl last year.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:10 PM ^
In light of the way this season has progressed, I wouldn't exactly mind a matchup with Stanford in San Diego. Plus it's my birthday eve, so the drinks will be flowing. (I still remember crying as a tween when we lost to Robbie Bosco & Co. in '84, cementing the national title for a grossly overrated BYU team. Ugh. Bo's worst team, yet we still almost pulled off a great upset to impact the MNC.)
November 24th, 2017 at 4:26 PM ^
Triando Markray, near the end of the Holiday Bown against BYU ... anyone remember?
November 24th, 2017 at 5:11 PM ^
Yes.
Worst holding team he ever saw, said Bo.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:13 PM ^
either way. also would be a fun bowl to watch. depending on quarterback health, I'd like our chances against Stanford. But that's premature as they still play Notre Dame, and possibly win that game.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:17 PM ^
I'm holding out hope we'll get into the Music City Bowl. I know it's not a great bowl, but I live in Nashville and would love the chance to see the team down here.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:19 PM ^
I'd prefer not to have a bowl game on Dec. 28 like the Holiday Bowl is. I'd rather get one of the same old-same old New Year's Day games in either the Outback Bowl or Citrus Bowl. It's a better slot when more eyes are in front of the TV. Both of those games have the Big Ten ties as well.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:33 PM ^
UM plays in either the outback or citrus.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:38 PM ^
I know. I laughed typing it but wishful thinking at this point.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:26 PM ^
Where is the Defense UFR? Fucking A mannnnnn
November 24th, 2017 at 5:05 PM ^
and..... where are the recruiting updates? haven't had any in what seems like forever. We get the little tidbits from posters here, but none of the Friday recruiting lately
November 24th, 2017 at 5:20 PM ^
I think there needs to be a "state of the blog" post
November 24th, 2017 at 9:35 PM ^
They don't care. As long as traffic remains high, they have no need to listen to us. It's clear they do not listen currently.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:41 PM ^
that late December in San Diego is always beautiful, usually.
Once in a great while we get rain that time of year.
And yes I would be at that game!
My wish for the rest of the season is we win tomorrow and the bowl game to go 10-3 while OSU loses to us, Wisc and the bowl game to go 9-5, how glorious would that be?
November 25th, 2017 at 2:29 AM ^
That would be amazing.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:31 PM ^
At some point we are going to need to stand up to all these teams and not play scared
November 24th, 2017 at 4:37 PM ^
Are you a player that plays scared?
November 24th, 2017 at 4:35 PM ^
potential matchup has the hairs on my palms standing up.
November 24th, 2017 at 4:35 PM ^
We can't control where RichRod ended up being hired. I would rather the team play out West than Florida, for no other reason than diversity of bowl matchups. But if you are trying to sell tickets tp an exhibition game, you want to create some marketing drama, which means if the team does go to the Holiday Bowl, the sponsors will seek a Harbaugh or Michigan-related connection to our oppponent. So, it will be Stanford or Arizona.
November 24th, 2017 at 5:09 PM ^
They should make us play Stanford, then play Arizona, then play Tennessee. All in a row.
Be awesome for ratings.
November 24th, 2017 at 5:17 PM ^
These all sound fine to me. I swear these days people just look fopr stuff to be unhappy about. None of you would take joy in kicking Arizonas but? I think Don Browns defense is perfect for that kind of team and would love to play them.
November 24th, 2017 at 5:21 PM ^
A Stanford matchup gives me plenty of reasons to say "Fuck Stanford" and not get a puzzled look, like I currently do.
November 24th, 2017 at 5:49 PM ^
I would love to play Stanford or Arizona in the rose bowl but sigh I guess holiday bowl would be kinda cool
November 24th, 2017 at 5:52 PM ^
Even though it should be called the "Foster Factory Farm" bowl. But still, it's walking distance from my house, and easier to say than the San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl.
That's San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl. Say the name.
November 24th, 2017 at 5:57 PM ^
Stanford would be a great storyline but probably an ugly game. Washington would be a more entertaining game, I think, just because Washington is a more robust team.
November 24th, 2017 at 6:05 PM ^
but playing PAC12 teams on the West coast has not been kind to the maize & blue. Still have nightmares of the late 70's....3 straight Rose Bowl losses. Charles White, Warren Moon. As hope was dying late in the 4th quarter each time, my mom would yell "Get to bed! Christmas vacation is over and school starts up again tomorrow!"
November 24th, 2017 at 7:31 PM ^
Holiday Bowl vs Stanford; Outback Bowl vs LSU; or Pinstripe Bowl vs NC State. Those are at the very least watchable matchups.
November 24th, 2017 at 7:31 PM ^
Arizona, yes please. U Dubb or Stanford, no thanks.
If we lose to Stanford, which (even with BP in there) is a 50/50 proposition imo, we'll never hear the end of that either. As far as Washington goes, I dont love that matchup for us. That Arizona offense is gimmicky and possibly soft.
I feel like Brown and our d may just beat up on them and our offense may find some much needed confidence. We can run the ball on Arizona. Washington? Idk , a bit I suppose. Stanford? Probably, but that will be a wacky one. We don't do well in wacky ones.
November 24th, 2017 at 7:44 PM ^
A bowl game with the opponent having a .500 record. Good chance of winning, not so much as one with a winning record.
November 24th, 2017 at 8:08 PM ^
other than the fact that it isn't ours...ours is a Don Brown defense...we'd be fine against Arizona and RR would throw up the usual garbage/dignity points after the game is decided.
November 24th, 2017 at 10:59 PM ^
I'd watch either of those.
