Hello: Dylan McCaffrey Comment Count

Brian

Michigan has landed a commit from the top 2017 QB on their board, Dylan McCaffrey (Yes That McCaffrey). McCaffrey is the son of Ed and brother of Christian; he's 45th on the 247 composite, and the #2 pro-style QB in the country behind Clemson commit Hunter Johnston.

In McCaffrey, Michigan gets a 6'5" pocket passer with huge upside and excellent bloodlines; his early commit will hopefully allow him to recruit other gentlemen into the class. Michigan may still pursue a second quarterback in the class. If they do so he's likely to be a player like Gentry or Viramontes who could play another position if QB doesn't work out. More likely is that Michigan stands pat with McCaffrey and Peters in back to back classes.

Yeah, I'd go as far as to say "expected." No one on our staff save Mattisom had spoken to a 2016 recruit more than 13 months before signing day, and most likely less than 12 considering the staff was scrambling to wrap up 2015. Also, this staff hadn't shown any on-field results before most 2016 kids had committed. This year it's full steam ahead.

...to get me out of my post-NSD hangover.  I could case less what Valenti, RCMB or any other Sparty has to say now.  Only non-hater thing they can say worth some merit is "let's see what happens on October 29th."

Let us then

Sam Webb also tweeted Dylan says the commitment is rock solid and he won't take other visits. As I think most have assumed Stanford would be the biggest threat to flip him, I also have to believe he's probably already seen enough of Stanford with his Dad and brother to not need to visit. This is awesome!

That family is unreal.

Dad's accomplishments are obvious, but he also has a sister who played basketball at Georgetown and a brother (Billy McCaffrey, if anyone remembers from the early 90s) who played basketball at Duke and Vandy.

Mom apparently was a soccer player at Stanford, and her father, Dave Sime, was an Olympic silver medalist in the 100m dash and also played baseball and football at Duke. He was good enough to get drafted by the NY Giants, but opted to go to med school instead.

Those kids have some great genes.

All those years when we were beating Ohio State even though we were not out-recruiting them on paper had one thing in common:  superior Michigan QB play.

When we had the better QBs, we were winning The Game:

  Harbaugh vs. Karsatos

Brown / Taylor / Grbac vs. Frey

  Grbac vs. Graham / Herbstreit

  Collins vs. Hoying

Griese vs. Hoying / Jackson / Germaine

Brady / Henson vs. Bellisari  (poor damn Bellisari)

Every Ohio State QB in the list above, none of whom made it in the NFL for long if at all, had to face a Michigan QB that wound up playing successfully in the NFL.

I like where this is going.
