Stribling has shown some promise. He may be the answer to other corner.

On the other hand, you are conveniently forgetting one important fact from MN---

The ONE THING that he was supposed to prevent AT ALL COSTS was something over his head to an open MN receiver to enable MN to win the game before OT.

If his head can catch up to his athletic ability, he has a good future. We sure could use him playing well in the next 4 games.

agree with some of your comments.  i think stribling has been ok, pretty decent at playing the agressive press and redirect and trail type coverage this staff prefers.  hes made some plays and looked ok but hes not an all conference type player at this point.

and sure, everyone gets beat, its part of the game.  as some pros say, "the other guy gets paid to play too".  the goal is a win or draw in more matchups than not (which stribling has done) while also limiting or eliminating the huge game changing type plays (which stribling has not done so well).

everyone gets beat, thats not the problem.  the problem is stribling even thinking about attempting to jump a 7-10 yard route in that situation.  the problem is getting beat in that situation in that particular fashion.

yes, hes playing aggressive D as asked but he knows theres seconds left and he has no deep help - simply not an option to consider jumping that route, risk / reward just does not add up.  im sure the coaches admired the aggressive play and his recovery effort at the goalline but they likely also hammered home that he cant let receiver get behind him there for potential victory.  play it safe (yet still aggressive) in that situation and make a sure tackle after the 10 yard completion if the throws complete - and minny simply goes from 40 yard field goal to 30 yard field goal attempt or whateve it was to tie the game.  mistakes in that situation, like jumping that double move without deep help, usually prove fatal.  though they somehow still won, thats the problem.

other than that, stribling has been decent

but it wasn't an isolated incident.  Look, he is pretty good.  Michigan's defense is an elite d-line, Peppers and Lewis.  Stribbling, Clark, Wilson, even Morgan and Bolden these guys are solid BIG players but not all conference caliber.

If every player on the defense was All-B1G then nobody would ever score on us. You can't expect every player on the defense to be amazing. Most teams would take a defense full of "solid" players. I agree that Stribling does get beat sometimes, but the comment that we need another option across from Lewis is Flamebait.

Stribling this year is a lot like freshman Stribling in that he is almost always the "almost man"  ...almost made that play, almost made this play, etc.  He seems to always be near / at the right spot on the field but then a play is made against him.  PSU 2013 comes to mind often.

He has made more plays this year then fr yr as well as he plays a lot more but I am hoping it all comes together next year and he goes from a lot of "almost" to just doing it.

And yes Lewis is way too small at this age to go to the pros - definitely needs 14 months of growth.

All conference caliber for a CB apparently means never, ever get beaten for a completion?  Fact is most  CB's will be beaten by a well run route paired with an on time, accurate throw, even Jourdan Lewis.

the first 3 guys listed were absolute studs as Juniors.  Stribling isn't any where close to them in his Junior year.  The next two are a little before my time.

Revis was 3rd team all-american and thorpe finalist as a junior.

Sherman started his career at Stanford as a wr, and earned Freshmen All-American honors.  He tore up his knee his sophomore year and then switched to db.  He made honorable mention all-conference his senior year.

You read my comment and thought I was comparing Stribling to those guys? Wow. The point is that all corners are beaten. The All-Time greats, some of which I listed above, are beaten less frequently than others. In fact, that is pretty much the measure of a DB -- how much less does he get beaten compared to others? One play cannot possibly be used to describe a player or his quality. That is what I responded to. Think of it like baseball. The all time greats fail to get a base hit some like 70% of the time. DBs shouldn't have that high of a failure rate, but they ain't hitting 1.000 either. My response was to a comment akin to, "JD Martinez sucks, I saw him strike out in his last at-bat." It's insane.

However, most of the guys you mention are making big plays when it counts.  NFC Championship Game, 49ers vs Seahawks, late late late in the game the Niners decide to test Sherman against I believe Crabtree.  Sherman breaks it up.  Who will ever forget Woodson's int against MSU?

Striblings a decent corner but for most of us, the plays that stand out from him are the ones he hasn't made - PSU and Minnesota.

Holy smokes. CHANNING STRIBLING IS NOT AS GOOD AS WOODSON OR REVIS. But one play against Minnesota, nor even two plays if you go back two years to Penn State, is not the measure of the man. No matter how big or clutch or memorable those plays are. Baseball again. Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer to ever pick up a baseball. He also blew two consecutive saves in games 6 and 7 of the 2001 World Series, as big of games as possible. His failures have been bigger than anyone else's. It doesn't matter. CHANNING STRIBLING IS NO MARIANO RIVERA. He's a decent junior CB at the college level. He is not bad because he failed a few times we wish he hadn't.

Great point, and were I JH, I would not want him thinking I had lost confidence in him, or for him to lose confidence in himself.

But he needs to mature in recognizing game situations.  While it is not fair to compare him to all those greats, no way any of those bites on a short out at the cost of getting beat for a winning 6 with 25 seconds left and up 3.  They were/are way too smart for that.  All of them.

He has great ability.  Mental focus could make him a pro someday. I bet the staff is handling the situation with care, and you will not see any diminished playing time for him.

Pretty sure Canteen is dealing with some sort of undiscolsed injury right now.  Lots of Michigan players with boo boos right now.  Hopefully Michigan handles Rutgers easily and some of these guys can come back stong for our tougher games later this month.

His best moments thus far were in spring game 2014.

I have no issue with him at CB as we need depth there and guys to push Clark and Stribling.  And with Wilson the only sure thing at S and leaving after this year Clark may go back to S next year to push Thomas and Hill.

Kinnel prob will be a S next year and Watson is next in line at CB but we need guys in case of injury - we have been fortunate in the DB this year.

Withh such a tiny class of 2015 defensive recruits (all 4 of them) I would not be surprised if 2-3 other people switch sides of ball this next year.  We lose this entire 2 deep save Hurst (and Mone comes back) post 2016.  So we need some upperclassmen on the 2017 defense.

With the huge size of the recruiting class the staff plans to bring in in 2016, they know there will be quite a few transfers after this year.  Out with the old, in with the new.

The common perception around here was that the clip of his padless footwork drill in shorts foretold the second coming of Braylon Edwards. Or was it Anthony Carter?

If I was still young and  loved football and I was a reciever I would gladly switch to defense and play cornerback and  use my athletic abiltiy over getting the ball thrown to me once or twice a game.

I've watched Canteen pretty intently. He just seems like he can't catch a break. Don't get me wrong, a lot of it is his own doing, but he also has a ton of bad breaks that keep him from making plays. He's sort of Freshman Jourdan Lewis of the offense.

I think he can be a pretty good corner though, so the move makes sense if he's getting buried at WR. I wonder if this might mean Clark moves back to safety after this year.

He seems like a good athlete with some length to him and obviously great feet, they could have something here if everything goes right and frankly the depth chart at CB is much thinner at WR. I like this move.
