I agree. This, combined with the next play, is one of my favorite moments in Michigan sports history.
|12 weeks 3 days ago||question re medical RS||
Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere, but why can't UM say Shane Morris was injured mid-season and apply for a medical RS? Didn't they do something similar for DG (i.e. pretending he was injured in his Freshman season, thus the reason he only saw a few snaps in a few early games)?

Mr. Miyagi would disagree with you.
|12 weeks 4 days ago||Green and Smith||
Watching first-year players, I'm always looking for flashes of greatness, something to portend consistent greatness in the future. I didn't see any such flashes from Green this year. Frankly, I thought he looked slow. Deveon Smith had one great run against OSU, and as far as I'm concerned, that's one more great run than Green had all season. My hope is that Green slims down and speeds up in the off season as he stares down the real possibility of being the go-to guy next Fall.

To be honest, I'm not necessarily saying I wouldn't choose basketball. I was just saying it was silly to say that winning The Game would have accomplished nothing other than making us 8-4.
As much as my brain knows it's unhealthy to think this way, I can't help but hate Ohio State football as much as I love Michigan football. Those two feelings go hand in hand.
The basketball team's run was magical as it was. Trey Burke hitting that 3 against Kansas was legendary. As far as I'm concerned, losing to Louisville doesn't change all of that that much.

just moves us up to 8-4? What about ruining our arch rival's chance at a FB national championship? What about ending our arch rival's insanely long win streak? What about demonstrating to prospective FB recruits that we can actually beat OSU? What about winning the most important game of the season, bowl game included?
|13 weeks 3 days ago||Angry||
Immediately after the game, I was a bit relieved, in that Michigan showed some heart against a good team. That has given way to anger. I am usually one to agree with the idea that coaches know much more than I can possibly know about the team, football in general, etc. That said, I cannot get over that 2-point attempt. How can any human being believe that the best chance to score from the 3-yard line is to run a pass play in which exactly three receivers go out, all starting their routes within a 5-yard radius of each other? How? On top of that, how can any coach not make a change to the play and/or formation after the defense called a TO to review the offensive formation?
The Game left me even more upset about Borges than I was before it. The Game demonstrated to me that our offensive players were not a bunch of talentless losers, as had been my fear from the previous month of games. I am more convinced than ever that the coaching was most responsible for the poor performance in between ND and OSU.

I would rather see a team of Hitler's in the NCG than Ohio.
|13 weeks 4 days ago||questions re 2014||
1. Any chance Countess or another CB moves to S? Especially if Peppers comes, I see us with a slew of decent, experienced CBs and a bunch of unknowns at S. There were many things about The Game that made me ill, but seeing Furman at S was definitely one of them.
2. Any word on which 2013 redshirts showed the most promise in practice? The young players will need to improve in a hurry if we are going to compete for Big Ten Championship next year. I didn't see many flashes from young players in 2013, mostly just mediocrity. Was hoping for someone to emerge as a playmaker, a la Jake Ryan in his RS FR season.

I think Cam Gordon and Brennen Beyer will be invisible. No pass rush until Jake Ryan returns. With no pass rush, secondary gets exposed early and often. I think we struggle on defense against even mediocre teams.
|27 weeks 1 day ago||half full vs. half empty||
I think these previews have been spot on. I'm surprised so many people think they're selling the defense short. As I see it, we had an average defense last year, we're down arguably the three best players (Kovacs, Floyd, Jake Ryan), and the replacements are mostly unknowns. Our pass rush stunk last year, and we lost our best pass rusher (Jake Ryan). I've never subscribed to the theory that a player automatically becomes better with a year of experience under his belt. Some guys do get better with age, others stagnate. In order for this defense to play at a Top 10-team level, a few guys will have to show a lot more than they showed last year, and in a hurry.
|27 weeks 4 days ago||Michigan insurance||
I bet against Michigan for extremely emotional games, such as Ohio State every year. I call it Michigan insurance. I ask myself before the game, "What would I pay to guarantee a Michigan win?" Then I bet that amount on the opponent's money line. When Michigan wins, I happily lose the bet. When Michigan loses, it's a small consolation.
