Minor factoid - Narduzzi loss trending well
Lots claimed the Narduzzi loss would be minor since Dantonio is the real defensive guru in E.L. but I was checking out the current Total Defense team rankings:
1. B.C.
2. Michigan
3. Pitt (Narduzzi)
...
77. MSU
MSU's sans Narduzzi, coupled with UM with Harbaugh/Durkin is trending very, very well toward a quick restoration of this rivalry to it's regular state, so Mark better get as many of those blue chip recruits as possible this year before the inevitable pull of nature takes its course.

Let's not dance on their graves just yet.
Let's actually kill them off first . . . then we can celebrate how good we've become and how ordinary they've become.

Exactly. MSU seems to do this almost every year, before improving massively over time. Let's hold off for a bit.

You'd think people would have learned their lesson after the first few games of 2013 when we blew the doors off of ND and their defense outscored their seemingly inept offense in 3 straight games. Then they absolutely embarrassed us in EL a few weeks later.
I'm not taking anything for granted anymore.

1) in 2013 their defense was rock solid from day 1, and also had many returning proven starters from the previous year. Not the case this time around.
2) they were still trying to figure out their QB situation early on. Cook was young and raw and had a lot of room to improve as the offense found its identity. He is now a 5th year senior and is not likely to improve throughout a single season as much as he did as a sophomore.

Reshp1: are you actually comparing this Michigan team with the one that took the field in 2013 as though they were equals? Have you been paying attention to what has happened the last ten months?
68-34-5 is about to become 69-34-5.

Demar Dorsey would be a HOFer with this coaching.
Let do it!

This is one of the strangest posts I've ever read here. Unless you are an MSU fan, in which case it would make sense.

Don't be surprised if MSU once again turns in their best game of the year against Michigan.

We will have our hands full.
We used to beat them regularly when they would Sparty NO! early in the game and then implode. But they don't do that under Dantonio. We will have to beat them straight up to beat them.

I don't like this.

Haven't we all agreed that S&P and other advanced metrics are superior to counting stats? S&P reads:
4. Michigan
26. Michigan State
41. Pittsburgh
October 4th, 2015 at 11:30 PM ^
lol I don't remember agreeing to that, but OK! S&P has us as the #3 team in the country and MSU #34 gonna be a blowout then.. or not

they got slapped around by some good SEC teams a couple teams, including Bama and Mizzou.
October 4th, 2015 at 10:23 PM ^
That Missouri game cannot be laid at Durkin's feet. Mizzou had like 120 yards of offense. Awful special teams and terrible quarterback play led to four (FOUR!) return touchdowns for Mizzou.

and the secondary coaches were saying that we were going to play man to man defense. I thought they were insane with this secondary.
They certainly know what they are doing.

Pitt has played the mighty Pelinis, Akron, a crap VA Tech who is 2-3, and Iowa. Iowa being far and away the best team. Which is not saying much.
Somehow they managed to avoid Clemson and FSU by the way.
But why are you not waxing poetic about Boston College's defense. Also as SoFlaWolverine stated, I am going with S&P and FEI defenses in week 6/7 over NCAA stats which is nothing but ave yards given up per game unadjusted for weak ass offenses which ACC and Big 10 defenses feast on.
- BC #1
- NC State #3
- Pitt #4
- Duke #9
- FSU #13
- Wake Forest #20
- Clemson #23
- Louisville #31
Do you watch Big 10 or ACC games and marvel at the amazing closing speed and dominance of those defenses thru half the league? Or LOL at the QBs and offensive skill players lacking in those leagues.
The ACC and Big 10 suddently have a huge array of elite defenses the past 5 years - or play a lot of shit offenses in non conf and their own conf.
October 4th, 2015 at 8:54 PM ^
- Youngstown State FCS team
- Akron #108 in total offense
- VA Tech #84
- Iowa #72
Everything in context.
October 4th, 2015 at 9:11 PM ^
They look to have a very good defense, but I don't see the value in counting the stats from games vs FCS opponents.
October 4th, 2015 at 11:12 PM ^
So are you saying Michigan's schedule is soft? Or do we have to follow your negative nancy trail in which the defense was going to be average against BYU? The last time Michigan had back to back shutouts was 2000. This squad, while it hasn't faced a dynamic offense yet (and may not, looking at rival trends) is still doing better than expected against the competition it has faced. I'm going to enjoy the ride on the Harbaugh train, and yes, the next two weeks provide yet another test, but this team can play with anyone with that defense.

I am just impressed that Narduzzi was apparently able to fit an entire hanging folder in his back pocket, no doubt with the playcalls indexed by coverage shells and estimated probability of PI calls. Say what you will about the man, but he wears that particular look well for some reason.
October 5th, 2015 at 7:15 AM ^
Those must be some AWESOME khakis, but I'm sure Harbaugh's pockets are even bigger.
October 4th, 2015 at 9:18 PM ^
And yes, it's clear that MSU misses him a lot. Their defense is still pretty good, just not crazy good like it was the past 3 years.
